  1. We were able to do this a few weeks ago. We booked an oceanview guarantee on the Odyssey. When I was able to see by the barcode that our room was going to be an obstructed view found a room for $110pp more for an ocean view on the hump. We originally booked directly on their website. When I called and said what room I wanted for the upgrade they originally quoted a much higher price. Then I said I had a screenshot of the price I was requesting that I could text them. She then put me on hold and looked again and found the correct price and I booked the nicer room.

  2. Ruth C.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, HIA is very popular now.  Have not cruised with Hollard for a few years. Last one was when they were doing the Oprah cruises.  We have one coming up on Eurodam leaving on March 25th.

  3. i have a different question. i booked a neighborhood guarantee room and then put a bid for an ocean view and large ocean view cabin. I’m wondering what cabin would i get if i didn’t put in a bid. If I took off by bids would I find out my regular neighborhood balcony gty. cabin sooner?  I just don’t want a Central park cabin on the 14th floor. Depending on what neighborhood cabin I get may not need to bid up.

  4. We will be flying in the night before our cruise on September 2nd. Our flight should arrive at 5:40pm.  My question is what is your opinion of Mediterranean Inn in the Queen Anne neighborhood?  Was considering that or Belltown Hotel or just stay at SeaTac.
Currently have our reservation at Mediterranean Inn due to price and seems like it’s a nice hotel in a respectable neighborhood

    Any suggestions or opinions.

  5. I must be one of the exception to all of you that are opposed to an Oprah themed cruise. My political leanings are not aligned with Oprah but I booked on one of her cruises intentionally after hearing about her themed cruises.

I'm a frequent cruiser and have cruised on Holland American Line in the past but currently I mainly cruise on RCCL. Maybe if I didn't cruise so often I wouldn't want to share my time with enrichment lectures while vacationing, but I do cruise often and I think this will add another dimension to my upcoming trip.

BTW I won't cruise with the Oprah themed cruise until March 2018.

  6. Just an update on the current situation on board. The winds are at this time 80 kts. It's still a pretty bumpy ride and I'm still not feeling completely safe, yet so much better than earlier this evening. The captain stated around 10 pm that he will update next at 08:00 in the morning as long as conditions keep improving.

Thanks for everyone's prayers and concern.

  7. I think RCCL must be really trying to get every dollar possible. I called them last night with no results so decided to call again today with the same results. Today I asked to talk to resolutions and they said no go.

I was respectful but told them I did not see any sales on this cruise. Resolutions said when she pulled up the cruise when you get to the pricing on the bottom of the page it does says for new booking only.

But after hanging up and searching on RCCL website for different cruises, no matter when you book it always says for new bookings only in the small print at the bottom of the page (along with other information). It doesn't matter if you are looking at a cruise for next month or next year. So I guess that is the loophole they can pull out when they want.

  8. I am a frequent cruiser, cruising mostly on RCCL. I always book on their website and believe I know the ins and outs on how to get the best deal.

I helped my son book a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas for this July. At the time the best price was an outside room. It is now after final payment and they currently have Central Park and Boardwalk balconies for approx. $150.00 more per person. He is a Diamond status so with his $200.00 balcony discount it would only be around $100.00 more for the room.

I have checked and this cruise is not on any WOW sale, nor on the Going, Going Gone sale, or any other special pricing that I can see.

The problem is when I call RCCL to upgrade the room, they say it can't be done for the pricing that is listed on their website. They state that the price I see is for only new bookings only. I always thought you could upgrade after final payment as long as the room was a more expensive cabin. She will let him upgrade but comes up with a price of around $800.00 increase.

They are saying it's a Going Going Gone sale but it's not listed as such on their website.

The cruise date I'm looking at is July 26th. The price I see for the least expensive balcony

    is $1049.00 per person.

    Any opinions or thoughts? Thanks.

  9. Something very similar happened to us in November. We are from Ohio and rented a car from Thirfty (which is also Dollar car rental). We rented the car for one day from Fort Myers one way to Miami. We were offered the Sun Pass for the car for a price of under $10.00 (can't remember the exact price) good for unlimited use of toll roads. I turned it down thinking our tolls would only be around $4.00 and I would pay myself.

We paid for all tolls exept for one that was for .25 cents. We had exact change so went to the left line as marked for the correct change. What happened was when we went left it turned out to be for the Sun Pass sticker cars. It was too late and we drove through the .25cent toll without paying.

The guy who took the car when I returned it told me to be sure to say something at the counter so I would not get fines for not paying the toll. When I told the counter guy basically told me too bad you should have bought the Sun Pass option. I then went into the airport at the car rental desk and checked with them and was told the same thing. I then luckily saw the original Thifty agent that I turned the car in and told him what happened. He recommended for me to go back and ask for the manager. I did that and the manager left me buy the original Sun Pass option for the $10.00 extra cost. So basically the .25cent toll cost me an extra $10.00, an extra hour of wasted time and and lot of stress.

If I had to do it over again I would have just bought the Sun Pass though the car company to begin with. When you turn it down you have to initial the contract that it was offered and you turned it down, plus you will be responsible for all fines with penalty if you go though any tolls without paying. You are thinking of course I will pay the tolls, not thinking that they will have bad signage or perhaps no signage at all.

  10. I currently booked room 8594 on the Jewel, but when I made the reservation with the RCCL agent she mentioned she could find a better room for me. The room she came up with was 8588. Has anyone had either of these rooms. I told her I would keep my original room 8594 since it looked just as good plus was $60. less expensive for us. Was that a wise decision?
