  1. I understand that but this discussion arises on cruise critic every few weeks and Princess has never given a statement that we can cite as fact.

There are just as many saying that room service personnel are not included as there are stating that they are in fact part of the pool.

I have found the reply I received and posted on this site:

    Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that the room service staff are included in the automatic gratuity daily charge. All staff that work towards your cruising experience are included, even staff you are not necessarily aware of.

I hope this information has helped answer your enquiry and look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

    Kind regards

  2. It would be helpful if you could copy and paste their response here so there would be a future reference on Cruise Critic.

This topic arises regularly and it would be nice to have an email from Princess with a name addressing the question.

Unfortunately I have since deleted the email but I am comfortable with the fact that the room service staff ARE included.

Tipping for room service is of course a matter for each individual, but I would suggest that for normal service it is not required - unless you believe that ALL staff should be tipped over and above the automatic gratuities. If you feel this way, that is fine. But to single out the room service staff seems somewhat arbitrary. I suspect that this is a hangover from the normal hotel experience where it is normal to tip for room service.

  3. Not sure if you are from the UK or not.

We are, and have cruised both Princess and P&O. We much prefer Princess. We find P&O are much too rigid and inflexible. Princess have a "If we can do it, you can have it" attitude whilst P&O have a "You must have what we tell you" attitude.

We find the staff much friendlier on Princess.

The facilities and ships are similar but there is a more British feel to P&O. The drinks on P&O are cheaper and they have tea/coffee making facilities in the cabins.

You will never know which you prefer unless you try as everyone has their own personal taste. Good luck if you choose Princess - we are off the Venice on the Emerald in June.
