  1. My family would like to visit the farmer's market when we are there later this month.  We will be on the PoA ship.  I'm guessing not, but curious since we're not in another country, would the PoA allow us to bring on food purchased from the farmer's market?

  2. Just preload their accounts with cash and shut off charging. Tell them that is what they have for the week. If they spend it all at once too bad, they won't get more. Whatever they have left at the end of the week they can cash out and keep.

I like that answer. We may do that.

The question though is that IF we shut off their accounts from charging, can we even load them up with cash? They are under our same Booking Number.

  3. We are heading on the Breeze later this year and was wondering if anyone has tried out the 5D Theater? Is it worth the money? Thanks!

    Yes.

We bought the "everything" ticket which allowed us to watch as much as we wanted on the 8-day cruise we were on it. Absolutely worth it.

Our kids loved it. I think there were 5-7 different shows playing throughout the week. Our kids watched several of them 4-5 times, they quickly found their favorites and watched for times they were playing and specifically planned to go see it.

My wife and I enjoyed it as well. We are going back on the Breeze in May and plan on buying everyone the full pass again.

  4. Hi everyone, I haven't seen this answered, so I thought I would ask to see if anyone would know or would have had experience with it.

It's been a while since we took the kids on a cruise, but in the past when we have linked a CC to our S&S account, we have had the option of NOT allowing the kids to charge to that account with their ship cards. We have always blocked their cards from charging to our main S&S account - only allowing my wife and I charging privileges on our account.

We are taking them again in May, and this time they are a little older - and we want to give them some ability to purchase for themselves while on the ship. We thought we would maybe give them Carnival Gift cards for Christmas.

    So, the question is:

    1. Can we apply a gift card to a specific S&S card, even if it's "shut off" from charging to our credit card?

1b. If so, when the cruise is over and they haven't maybe spent all of their money they applied to their S&S account, can the remainder be refunded? (How is it refunded?)

    2. Is there a better way to do it? Specifically, I'm thinking if we scrap the gift card idea, and just go ahead and allow them to charge to our CC via their S&S card, but have controls on them so they can only charge up to a daily limit (say maybe $20 per day per kid). Does anyone know if that's possible?

It's been a while since we took kids, so I honestly don't remember all the boxes checked, etc and we're not ready to do all of our account stuff online yet...so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  5. I enjoyed it!

One thing I try to do is determine whether i'm trying to primarily provide Information or Entertainment. Am I doing this to inform people about something or am I trying to entertain people?

Most often, I move towards entertainment - and I often get criticized for not telling enough about a place or a thing that was being done (like subtitling my videos).

Don't let the criticism get to you. Everyone is a critic. If you like it, GREAT. If you see room for improvement, AWESOME. That means you will improve.

My signature has my last 3 cruise videos. There is a definite improvement from the bottom to the top. Some techniques I've learned, errors I've made, some in post, some behind the lens. Others are things I've always wanted to try. Some fell flat. The bottom line is never stop pushing yourself and you'll always get better.

  6. Great job. Thanks for posting.

If you're up for a challenge, try doing some timelapse with the GoPro. I built a custom magnetic ball mount for mine and on our Adventure of the Seas trip last fall I did several timelapses of rainbows, sail-aways, dockings, etc. It was pretty cool.

What version of GoPro were you using? some of those were really high resolution.

    Thanks!

  7.

Things we didn’t do even though we had every intention to:

Bonsai Sushi, mini golf, the sky course, thrill theater, watch an entire move at the dive-in, lunch at the Italian restaurant, Indian food, the wok place, dancing at night, relaxing at the library bar.

Can’t wait to do it again! Mom, sister-in-law and I are now talking “girls only” cruise for the future!

    Thanks for the review!

Love the Breeze, will be taking our kiddos on her again next summer. I have a video of our cruise on her in my sig...since you missed the sky course, I have some of it with our kiddos doing it ;-)

  8. Hi there,

We are planning a 7 day Caribbean Cruise next summer with our young adult children and a few other 40yr old couples. This will be our 5th trip to the Caribbean: 2 Bahamas, 1 Southern Caribbean and 1 Western Caribbean all sailed out of Florida. I'm hoping for some feedback on which is the BEST ship to sail on, which city to leave out of, and which ports are a MUST SEE!! I'm not a big fan of the new MegaPorts; I want to get out and see the islands. I'm considering the Breeze out of Galveston to change things up a bit; but we are really open to suggestions. I'm thinking one of the newer ships with more activities on board.... All ideas and thoughts are appreciated!!

Hi there! If you choose the Breeze out of Galveston, and choose May 28, you'll cruise with us ;-). We will be 2 families of 40-somethings with 2 teenage boys, 2 teenage girls and younger boy. (18,15,14,13,8)

We aren't big mega-port excursion/shopping type people either - we typically try to book solitude and a beach. So, next May, we are booking Nachi Cocum in cozumel - it has been one of our favorite beach days in 7 cruises - can't wait to go back. For Roatan, we're looking at Tabyana beach...and although it's not private (no beaches are private in Roatan), it wasn't too busy last time we were there - but the snorkeling was the best I've ever had. Ever. Incredible, and it's right off the beach. Not big fans of Belize - been there 2 or 3 times, honestly I could stay on the ship and be ok, but we may try to find some beach or something to try.

Honestly our favorite ship we've ever been on was the Breeze, that's why we re-booked her (see my video below for a taste of the Breeze). I love her. My only little want on the Breeze would be the Alchemy bar - but she doesn't have it unfortunately. Other than that I love that ship.

Other favorite ports include Grand Turk - admittedly not much there, but we love Jack's Shack. We also love St. Lucia (Sugar Beach) and St. Thomas (Honeymoon Beach on Water Island) (those two are on the top video).

    Happy cruise searching!

  9. ...on Royal the buffets are all open at the same time not half open part of the time!

The experience I had was different. On the AoS, we had to wait every morning for the buffet to open at 7am (CCL has always offered at least something at 6am), and even then it was 1/4 to 1/2 open.

I'm actually just the opposite. We just went on our first RCI cruise and personally I would rather stay on CCL. No huge issues, just several little ones. But, to each his or her own. We just perfer Carnival.

  10. Hi,

Two families (3 teenagers) going in August. Can the kids sign and sail cards be loaded with a certain $ amount and once it's gone they can't charge anymore? We have 3 balcony rooms, do the partitions in between open so we all be on there together? How do people stay in touch with their kids when on the ship? We plan to meet for dinner but what about during the day? Can you make reservations b4hand for the shows? I probably have more but lets start with this.

    Thanks

    Sounds like fun!

Guest Services can load the cards for you - no problem. We have done this as well.

When we have had 3 balconies in a row, AND when all of the partitions are open(able), yes we have had them all open together...kids loved going from room to room on the outside of the ship. We did this on the Valor and the Breeze. Remember to ask your steward EARLY on the first day to open them if you want them open - if I recall, there was a certain little holding device required to lock the partitions in the open position - and there are a limited number of them on the ship. So ask early, and know that once they are opened, they stay opened. No more walking out of the shower in your birthday suit with the curtains open

We have always done the cheap FRS type radios, they tend to work sometimes...remember you're on a steel ship and no matter what the radio says in miles, they are all pushing the maximum legal wattage which is 500mW - and that's a pretty low transmitter. You aren't going to talk clearly from Lido to someone inside in the main lobby, but 2-3 floors max usually works. Honestly I can't wait to try the HUB App on the Breeze next May - I have a feeling that will be a communication game changer for our family.

Finally, no reservations needed for the standard shows on CCL. Some of the newer ships have the Thrill Theater and the Vista has the IMAX theater that requires tickets, but the comedy and Broadway shows on CCL do not require reservations.

Can I ask what ship you will be going on and what Itinerary? Maybe I can help with some pointers.

  11. Warm Chocolate Melting Cake - delicious! It's been rated one of the best desserts on any cruise line. I have had it before and enjoyed it then as well. VERY chocolately. The only complaint I have is that it was more melty than cakey...if that makes sense. I wished it had had a little bit more cake texture but it was still amazing. hint for everyone...order 2 ice creams with it ;)

Thanks for the review and pictures!

We've been on the Chef's Table a few times and have been told that they always make WCMC 3 ways, Well Done, Medium and Rare (so mostly cake, balanced and mostly melted). You can ask for it that way.

I've also had some servers look at me weird when I ask for it that way the first time, but by the 2nd or 3rd day our server always says "Mr Bloom, WCMC, medium rare, 2 ice-creams?" ;)

  12. Very nice! I have a Phantom 1 with a GoPro mounted, but I don't have the gimball to make it that smooth.

I guess they allowed you to bring the Phantom on the ship. I wasn't sure if they would allow that.

    Great video!

  13. My 14 year old is soon to be 15. We normally do vacations for our birthday's (Sep, Oct, & Nov) this year I am going on a cruise for my 35th birthday without him, he is dying of jealously so I am now looking at a cruise for his birthday. I am looking at a 4 day from Long Beach, with ports in Ensenada, and Catalina Island. (West Coast sailings are few and far between) 11/27/16 so right after Thanksgiving. Anyone have experiance on after Thanksgiving cruises? My question is this can a 14 year old have fun on a cruise without friends? I mean it would be me, him, and maybe our other brother. I think the ability to say he has done it would outweigh the what do we do now-ness, but who knows. He is very tech savvy, kinda shy, just loves adventure and wandering around. Obviously I have never been on a cruise and I do not know what to accept for teens. Any advise is helpful. Thank you. :D

We've done 3 cruises on the week right after Thanksgiving. (a) fares are lower, (b) it's my wife's birthday and © we usually fly to the port on black friday, so all of that chaos doesn't concern us ;)

During that week, there's always fewer kids but there are always some. Depending on your son's personality though he may like it better. I wouldn't worry about him being bored. Hey, it's a cruise, right?

  14. We've stayed on Deck 8 and didn't think so. At least we didn't notice it. You do feel like you have less privacy on the balcony though, and you don't have that "straight down to the water" feeling with some of the other classes of ships from the balcony.

We did like being able to watch our kids in the hot tubs below from our room. That was kind of nice.

On a side note, we always get a balcony room, and these little issues didn't bother us enough to not book the Breeze any more. We are booked for next summer, Deck 8 balcony.

Out of 7 cruises, the Breeze is our absolute favorite so far.

  15. Oh cool! Okay, so the website says there is one pull down bed from the ceiling and one sofa bed (in addition to the two twins that convert to a king). Is this not the case? It says that it fits 4, but if it has two pull down beds, does that mean it fits 5? Also, were the balconies noisy in this location or were they just fine?

I think it may be a typo on the poster's part. We stayed directly across on a couple of port side rooms last year and there was only 1 upper pullman type bed.

The only rooms (to my knowledge, maybe I'm wrong) that have (2) upper pullman type beds are the family rooms down on deck 1 or 2.

I'm about 90% sure (if equipped) it would be a single dropdown and a convertible couch.

Doing some research, it looks like 8367 DOES NOT have an upper pullman, but would have a convertible couch. 8371, on the other hand would have the pullman. If you are getting information contrary to that, I would definitely call again. I think you are right to be suspicious about this.

  16. Hi all,

My apologies for the numerous questions in this one thread.

We will be celebrating DH's 50th birthday with this cruise. I want to book Chef's Table for him because he will get a real kick out of the behind the scenes stuff (and the food of course!). Do you think it is worth it to also book the Steakhouse for this cruise?

Also, how far in advance should I book the Chef's Table?

We are also doing a 7-day western from Galveston next May. We are going to be on the Breeze.

I can say this. The other ships going out of Galveston - the Liberty and Freedom offer much different chef's table experiences than the Breeze. I've done the CT on both the Breeze and the Liberty.

I much prefer the Liberty / conquest class CT experiences. On the newer dream class ships (Breeze, Dream, Magic), they have the "private" dining in a hallway in the galley itself. It's much less comfortable, it's somewhat hotter and stuffier (steam tables keeping food warm) and it's very tough to hear and understand dialog.

In the conquest class ships they have a private dining room just off of the mid dining room. It's very quiet, comfortable and pleasant in my opinion.

We actually decided NOT to do the CT on our upcoming Breeze trip because of the difference in experience.

    FYI.

  17. Whenever we go to Grand Turk, we usually rent a golf cart, take a little self-guided drive around the island, then hop right back to Jack's Shack. We spend the rest of the day there eating and drinking on an awesome beach. It's one of our favorite beach bars.
