  1. Who are all those people who can afford to cruise? I wonder sometimes too.

Some of them are credit card purchasers. Reality will set in when they are back home and the bill arrives in the mail.

Right now cruise lines are counting on enticing first time cruisers to sail with them on the new innovative ships. Some of these folks probably have no idea what the final cost could be.

I do think in the future though that if the economy doesn't improve drastically at some point, there may eventually be less cruisers overall.

  2. Double standard schmouble standard. I'm a woman and this wouldn't bother me, so I feel quite confident that if I were a man I would feel the same way - and like Silkhair, I'd have fun with it. In fact, I have to admit that as I read the thread, I was thinking of ways to have fun with it anyway!! I think it would be great fun to go in with my husband (after he checks for other passengers, of course) and pretend to start getting 'naughty', then look over at the other ship as if just noticing that it's there, look shocked and embarrassed and then leave laughing. :p

As a wife, I'll be telling my husband about it and also sharing my idea - I doubt we'll act it out, but I know it will give him a chuckle. :p

As a parent, I will be reminding my daughter that when she can see OUT a window, it's very likely that others can see IN the window, and to be aware of what she's doing. :)

The best 'bathroom window' I ever heard of was in the Fireworks Factory, a restaurant that used to be at Disney's Pleasure Island. In the men's room, there was a window along the entire wall that backed the mirror behind the bar. My husband said it was quite disconcerting to stand at the urinal with a full view of the bar and all the patrons sitting at it!

Whatever....believe what you want to believe...!

You can do whatever you want if that's how you get your jollies.

For me, personally the days of the mile-high club, toilet humour and having Ferris Bueller as my hero are well behind me. I loved the 80's, but I grew up.

What is it with NCL and bathrooms anyway...?

  3. If I were a man it would not baother me int he least, and I would probably have fun with it on port days hoping someone was watching! LOL

I find your comment quite interesting. Since you are admittedly not a man, how do you know how you would feel about this? (another one of societies double standards)

I tell you what, I am a man and it does bother me. I've never been in a women's bathroom, but my wife tells me that sometimes women are in various stages of dress or undress, adjusting, tucking etc....Let's hope nobody ever snaps a photo of you in a compromising position...just sayin'...

I hope you enjoy your cruise though....

  4. A bit funny, for sure.

As to actually "seeing" something, that is another story. We of course KNOW what they are doing, but at that distance, well - nothing to see.

Which brings up the child comments. Come on folks, do you really thing you could SEE something?

Let's go back to the chuckle part.

I believe I'm the one who brought up the child issues here. It seems we see (pun intended) things differently on this. I'm fine with that, but I think it goes beyond an embarassing situation and leans more towards a privacy issue. You are probably right though. Under normal circumstances we couldn't or wouldn't (me personally) want to see anything, but why expose (pun intended) anyone to this situation?

Must be the new Freestyle bathrooms.....

  5. SakeDad, that's fine if you are on the Star. Unless you are 7 ft. tall, I don't think anything would be exposed.:) The Epic on the other hand has floor to ceiling windows. I do think it is kind of funny. You see, I don't have any children, but if my child used that bathroom while in port with those lighting conditions, I'd be pretty mad when I found out about this.

  6. Hi Folks,

Sorry if this is well known, . . . but on our recent Celebrity Cruise over Thanksgiving, we were docked next to the Epic in St. Maarten. I took the first picture of the Epic, . . . everyone sure looked like they were having a great time. Notice the smoked glass just below the top deck mid-way down.

As we walked down the Eclipse, we got a much better look at what was behind the glass - it was the Men's Room!!! And, it was in use while we were in port.

    EpicBathroom.jpg

We were chuckling quite a bit at how many men walked in, did there thing, and then walked out, . . . all in full view of those of us on the ship next door. And yes, it did appear that most washed when finished!!! :)

Just wanted to pass this along and apologies again if this information is well known. It was too funny to pass on posting this. :)

LOL.....thanks for the info! It looks like another brilliant design point of the Epic. What were they thinking?

While we can all laugh at this (or not), I think it would be pretty disturbing if someone's child was seen accidentally exposing himself while just trying to do his business. I know I wouldn't want to see it and I'm sure nobody knows they are being watched.

And people are complaining about airport scanners? With the way things are today, I'd suggest NCL fix it now before the first lawsuit.

  7. Bedbugs appear in most if not all hotels from time to time and probably some ships as well. People bring them in unknowingly.

When it occurs, rooms are shut down, cleaned and treated by professionals and are left to sit for a few days to see how the situation responds. They are then inspected and tested to find the results of the treatment. Sometimes it requires more than one application, just like noro.

Situations like this are occuring more than you would like to know, and have been for years. It's not something that hotels or cruise ships really have much control over besides daily cleaning. The room is only as clean as the belongings and the person using it before you. Some things always slip through the cracks.

By the way... there are hundreds of microscopic organisms on your body right now......

  8. I have read that bed bugs have become in hotels in the last few years. Has there been any reports on NCL ships?

Just so you know, bedbugs have been around for ages. Hence the silly little rhyme stated in a post above. My grandparents used to say it to us kids when retiring for the evening "Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite". Oh and my wife manages a large hotel and has seen it all before. Nothing new here. No need to panic folks, they'll probably be around after "man" becomes extinct.
