  1. Thanks for the tips! We're on a delay this morning, quite foggy and apparently my ship didn't come in... ;)

We'll see what we can get into once we get down there. Rain appears to be moving out, so that helps. My partner has MS, so we can't cover a lot of territory (we know we'll be doing plenty of that on the boat! ) but these sound like some reasonable ideas without too much fatigue. Thanks!

If you are facing the ship.. to the right is a complex with a couple restaurants. We've eaten at Olympia there and it's pretty good. We enjoy hanging out in that area, but it can be crowded because it is right next door to the ship...at least it was a couple years ago.

  2. Take a taxi...cheap (regulated by zone)...easy from SJU to your hotel.

I wouldn't say they are cheap.. we transferred from Hilton Condado to Hilton Caribe and it was 20.00. If my hip wasn't acting up it would have been an easy walk.

  3. Hi fellow cruiser: We have been to San Juan well over twenty time but have never eaten lunch in old San Juan. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Have considered Barrichina,s but just want to try local dishes. Will be there in Sept and looking at early around 1130 to 12 as Oasis departs early afternoon. Thanks for any advice. We wandered into a place called Cafe Manolin this past week. All local food and mostly locals eating there.. It was great.. lunch with tip was around 30.00 for the two of us. You can Google it for the address. We would definitely go there again!

  4. FYI:

San Juan is most probably going on strike tomorrow. The goverment stripped all goverment workers of all benefits.

Not alarmist just heard from sister IN-Law (Cayey) goverment worker. All benefits including insurance gone.

Just giving anyone flying in a heads up

    Reader

We flew in Monday afternoon with no problem, but apparently earlier on Monday they closed the airport due to riots. (This was per many people we talked to) We have been here all week with no problems whatsoever.

  5. Thanks for this review! We MAY be going in April .. still trying to figure out some stuff ... if we're able to do it won't be booking until the last minute .. ugh... We really want to try RC out of Galveston. We've only done Carnival, and did a RC cruise in Alaska.

SO looking forward to this! Once again thanks!:D

  6. So looking forward to this ..

My sister and family will be getting off the Epic tomorrow - so I've been scouting reports - looking for pictures .. laugh.. BOY did I come to the right place!

Love that you did both the cruise and "on your own" .. DH and I have been discussing how difficult "on your own" would be in Europe .. You're giving me hope!! ( He has no trepidation .. his theory is grab a translator app and you're good to go.. laugh)..

  7. We were in 11277 a few weeks ago .. Noise was a bit of an issue on "Party nights" ..

You could hear noise during the day when on the balcony .. not that much of an issue really ..

But we're not "party people" .. so two nights when they had Lido Deck parties the bass from the music was quite loud .. you know kinda like driving next to a car that has the bass cranked .. thumping.. laugh.. This was in the cabin .. not just out on the balcony.

Location is GREAT .. as far as getting to buffet, etc ..

  8. Nicole -

I am LOVING your blog!! Grew up in Chicago - and have NEVER had a desire to go to New York as an adult until I read your report there!

Sounds like fun ... (and not as spooky as I imagined .. hahahaha)

Looking forward to your next trip!! I want to get back to Disney soon!

We're taking our first cruise in less than 3 weeks ...

It will be my son and I ... and my sis and her family...

DS and I are more your Mom's age than yours - but I have fun reading your and Stephanie's different takes on things! Sort of like my sis and I when we were young!

Thank you for an enjoyable evening of reading!!!!

    Pam
