  1. Just a few thoughts... We travelled from Central Texas on Sunday and spent the night at Best Western in Webster about 20 minutes from Galveston. The hotel is recently renovated and nice and at$50 on Priceline could not be beat.

We woke on Monday ready to go but recieved a text that the Triumph was delayed due to fog in the channel. This is our 3rd sailing from Galveston and second time delayed by fog. We took our time and drive to the port around 10:00. They would not let anyone park yet but did allow us to drop our luggage. At this point it was around 11 and they were saying we wouldn't be inboard until after 3! Ugh!!!!! Btw the ship wasn't here yet. We drive around Galveston for about an hour and then headed back to the terminal and yay!!!! There she was!

We were then allowed to park which took some time due to people now disembarking as well. We got into the terminal checked in with FTTF and seated in a specific section all in about 20 minutes. It is now 12:45. They started boarding the 3 wedding parties at 2:10 and we stepped on the ship at 2:20.

We went to our room and it was ready. Now about the cabin. It was 9224 inside on Lido. It was the smallest cabin we have ever been in. Since there were 3 of us there is a roll away which is blocking the walkway so you literally had to walk sideways. The cabin was clean-ish but there was visible spills down one wall and cobwebs in the lights. Also there were several lights that were broken. We are usually balcony people and I definitely won't do another interior.we met our cabin steward, gave her $20 and never saw her again until disembarkation. She did an ok job but nothing special. The first sea day our room did not get serviced at all, and we had to beg for beach towels. We finally gave up and got them poolside.

We had early dining in The Paris dining room and had an awesome team, I Ketut and Robbie. They were outstanding and we had wonderful prompt service all week.

Saw 2comedy shows, both great. Went to the magic show which was just ok. Spent time in the Casino and played some trivia. The pool areas were completely ridiculously packed. We were able to find a couple chairs near the aft pool and it was nice.

Progresso was ok. Been there before. Got off the ship and found the Autoprogresso folks, paid $35 and went to Tecnohotel all inclusive. It was a fun day, beautiful weather and relaxing except they had rap music blaring. I think they have a stereotype of Americans that we all listen to Solja Boy.

Cozumel is one of our favorite ports. We went to Mr. Sanchos and had a great time as usual.

In closing, just a few observations.

    1. There were 1600 kids on this ship because it was spring break. With that being said, there was a lot of NOISE. Now I love kids and want them to be loud and have fun BUT not in the hall ways at 2am

    2. Definitely more of a Duck Dynast crowd. Enough said

    3. I expected the ship to be in better shape after her rehab. The common areas were nice but the cabins need some attention.

    4. First cruise I have left feeling exhausted. (see#1.)

    5. People please use common since in hallways, do not scream at your kids and wife outside of someone's door at 1am.

All in all it was a great cruise but I won't do another 5day or Triumph again. I think the lower price point attracts a different crowd.

  2. My daughter tends to be shy. She is now 14 but we cruised 2 summers ago when she was 12. It is imperative for her to go to the meet and greet on the first night. I insisted she go and went with her. After 15 minutes of her talking to a couple of other girls (with me instigating the conversation) she said "ok mom you can go". She hung out with those girls for the rest of the cruise. They participated in some circle c activities but mostly hung out in the arcade and pizza place. We've been on 2 cruises since and she now insists on going to the meet and greet. They all tend to group up that first night so if you miss it, I think it's harder.

  3. Agree 100%. The kids roaming the ship are the ones running in the halls, sneaking to little known areas etc. On land, they are the ones getting into trouble due to having no supervision.

WOW! How do you know this? Very judgmental of you. I have a 14, 19, and24 year old. We are a military family and have lived all over the world. Instead of putting our children in bubble wrap and sheltering them, we have taught them right and wrong AND how to handle themselves. While I agree that dangers lurk everywhere, your child can be the victim of all sorts of things at their own school or yard! I think if my children were the ones you speak of, they would have gotten caught by now, don't you? In my observations it's the parents who overprotect and shelter who generally have the children that rebel and get into trouble. People in glass houses.....

  4. I have been reading your review and love it!!!! I just want to take a minute and applaud you and your wife for exposing your son to many different things, including things he may be afraid of. I have 3 children 23,19,and13. We had our kids when we were very young and like you drug them with us everywhere. I can't tell you how many friends NEVER leave their home with their children for fear they may miss a nap, or be uncomfortable, or off their schedule , blah, blah, blah!!!! They are raisin kids that are terrified of the world around them and absolutely CANNOT adapt to any change. My husband is retired from the Army and we moved 13 times in around 20 years. We took our kids to over 20 countries!!! My kids are well adjusted and adventurous!!! I think your son will be the same! Kudos

  5. I was just on Conquest in July. I can tell you I spent a lot of time in the aft pool area and saw Carnival staff repeatedly make families with kids leave, including a family with a special needs child. The mom plead her case that the other pool was too crowded etc. and lost, they were made to leave!!! There are signs and they do enforce this. We thought it was nice to have a quiet area just for adults. Btw I do have kids!!!!

  6. We just returned from a 7 day carnival cruise with a 12 year old girl. The 12 and up crowd sign themselves in and out. There is no other option!. I will say that most of the activities are from 8 pm till about midnight or later. "party at sea till 3" on one sea night. I made sure my daughter was always with a group. Absolutely do not go in anyone else's cabin for any reason. We brought sticky notes and she would check in hourly and if we weren't in the cabin she would leave us a note. I know my daughter and if anything she is a early cautious. The one thing I will share is when the ship was docked, I made her stay with me. My imagination started going wild and I imagined someone leaving the ship with her, but at sea I let her roam. I did notice lots of parents with Wilkie talkies and this is a great idea.
