  1. I think the options for the Explorer are greatly limited by the length of the cruise...heading south, there just isn't a lot of land you can get to & from in only 5 nights.

Agreed - especially as Explorer is having trouble with higher speeds. Was on The ship last week and they gave us a letter on day 2 or 3 saying that something was wrong that was limiting our speed but that it was nothing to be concerned with in terms of safety and it will be fully fixed during the next drydock. I'm not sure what the max speed is but I don't remember the Captain ever saying we were going higher than 20 or 21 knots and my husband and I strongly suspect the stabilizers were not used much which contributed some to the rockiness (not the worst I've seen but it wasn't smooth sailing for sure with the TS and Hurricane!)

  2. do take full advantage of the CL even during the day when it is not manned. the 24 hour coffee is nice plus the out of the way quiet is great for reading.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I think this is one of my favorite things! You can view the menu for the evening while enjoying a cappuccino :).

Oh and they will give you priority departure when leaving the ship for some ports and usually for the disembarkation so you don't have to wait in as long lines.

  3. We were on the same cruise with you and had similar thoughts. We weren't sure if it was size of the ship or what. But we also didn't get any tour invitation - am wondering why that would be? We did get the special dinner invite and we did go. There did seem to be a number of needy folks who spent lots of time with Denzil but when we needed help or had questions he was helpful. It was a different experience than on previous trips with a GS though - on Freedom in June 2011 and on Grandeur in October 2013 we got the daily calls and it seemed like a lot more "paper" (invites, notes, etc). Not sure why some of these things aren't standard across the ships? It may have been that due to the tropical storm and hurricane that Denzil only had time for the required things and not a lot of time for the extras? Regardless we had a great trip and enjoyed Denzil and those we met in the CL

  4. We are considering the new Embassy Suites in Elizabeth, NJ - The reviews seem good, but I'm wondering if anyone has real life experience with using them and getting to the cruise port?

Also debating park and stay vs. just parking at the port. It's $81.12 more to do the park and stay package, but by the time you add the cost of a shuttle in for 4 adults and 1 child plus our bags, I'm thinking it may be cheaper to park at the port for our 9 night cruise. Thoughts? I haven't priced out shuttles yet -- that's next....

  5. Thank you for the information! We are leaving on this cruise next Thursday and I have been hoping someone would post. We are in the Royal Family Suite so I'm happy to hear about the concierge lounge. A little worried about only 7 kids on the ship (we have a 3 1/2 year old who is hoping to meet friends!) but I'm sure it will be ok.

Which nights are formal nights? And much thanks for the Izumi information -- we love hot stone cooking and I didn't realize that was an option there.

Oh and how were the seas when you left Baltimore heading north? Last time we were on the Grandeur we went south to Bermuda and as soon as we hit the open ocean the rocking was horrible. Just wondering how much Dramamine we should pack or if it was fairly calm?
