  1. They power of prayer is great! Hang in there Egon, we love you and miss your emails. Typing and the thought process will get easier when he is home with his family.

Don't give up Egon, you are an inspiration to all of us.

Thanks Steve, Pat and Doug for the updates.

  2. Wonderfull to see Egon is able to use his netbook for typing. It is a start of recovery.

I hope things go well for him.

As someone who is prone to blood clots during surgery I understand about having to come off heparin/coumadin prior to surgery. They take me off them too. HOWEVER the day before surgery they give me a shot in the stomach, also the day afterwards, as well as vitamin K. I'm glad he is having a spinal.

Hopefully he now has the surgery behind him, and is on the road to recovery.

    God bless Egon.

  3. I too have thought he may have had a blood clot from the long flight.

It was wonderful to read the positive email from Steve, and that Egon can still play the piano. Let's continue to pray for our amazing friend that he make a full recovery and that the tumour in his bladder is benign.

Keep up the fight Egon and may God continue to bless you and your family.

  4. I am saddened to read of Egon's stroke and his physical condition (at the moment.) I am also thankful that he was at least back in Canada, and with Steve, when it happened.

What a truelly remarkable man he is, and hopefully still will be, as it is early days yet. The power of prayer is great as I have been on the receiving end of them from the wonderful people of the Cruise Critic Community.

His own strength and willpower have got him this far, and with our prayers I'm sure he will succeed in communicating with others, and playing the piano again.

God Bless you Pat, and others who have posted his photos, so that we at home have been able to follow his cruising journeys.

He will have lots of good wishes to read when he's able.

May God bless you and heal you Egon!

  5. I checked Egon's site and all his updates are posted on here.

Pat, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your daughter.

I'll keep checking Egon's site and if anything new appears, I'll post it for Pat. :)

  6. Thanks Pat for another update, also to LadySail2 for posting the photos.

Also a HUGE THANK YOU to Steve! If Egon wasn't spending your inheritence, WE wouldn't be enjoying reading about his adventures.:D

  7. As a disabled person I am appalled with the things Egon has to suffer through on MSC. Free strawberries and champers is OK; but he's certainly not getting treated well by the staff considering he's onboard for a year. ABANDON SHIP EGON AND STOW-AWAY ON ANY HAL SHIP. You'll be treated like a KING on HAL.

Thanks again Pat for your continued roll in keeping us updated.:)

  8. Thanks Pat for this update. I do hope he is still on the ship after seeing someone on the 21st. I feel bad that he spent so much money for a year of cruising, and he's having so many problems. Let's hope in Europe things turn around for him.

  9. Thanks Pat for keeping us updated about Egon, also a HUGE thank you for caring enough about him to write to MSC; which I am also going to do.

Most cruise lines will give you onboard credit OR an upgraded room if the price of the cruise goes down. I find it hard to believe that NONE of the individual cruises that make up the year of cruises Egon booked, wuldn't qualify for SOMETHING!! Free laundry in my mind is an insult to this gentleman. IF MSC had played their cards right and treated Egon fairly, his journaling of his year at sea could have generated a lot of GOOD PUBLICITY for them. Perhaps they are not aware of Cruise Critic, or the power of people on a forum such as this!!

MSC is an Italian cruise line and the Poesia is heading for Europe (Italy.) If I was an Italian or lived in Italy, here's what I'd do; (HOPEFULLY IF WE HAVE ITALIANS ON CRUISE CRITIC THEY COULD MAKE THIS HAPPEN)

At the first place in Italy where the Poesia is docking I would arrange for the media (newspapers and TV) to interview Egan, so he can tell his story. This is a human interest story and NO company likes BAD PUBLICITY especialy when it shows they have no compassion!

I know Egan is playing the piano because he enjoys it, but he is 95 and is taking this cruise so he doesn't have to go in a retirement home. IF he was treated better by MSC and I was a passenger on the ship, I'd be singing the praises of the cruise line helping him atain his goal. Everyone (that is everyone but MSC) knows that word of mouth is the best form of advertising!!

I echo Pat's words to MSC....SHAME ON YOU!

Foot note: I wish Egon's cruiseline of choice had been HAL. Maybe he and Mama Lou would have been a match made at sea. ;);)

  10. I was searching on google to see if any solo disabled person had done a grand voyage or world cruise, and it brought me to this thread.

I stayed up until 1am reading about Egon's reports! What a truly remarkable, and adventureous man he is, to embark on such a journey. I was so sorry to read of his falls and I hope and pray he is feeling better, and won't have to disembark again due to medical reasons.

Needless to say I am now another female hooked on waiting for his updates!!

A huge thank you to Pat for starting this thread, and keeping us updated.

Also thanks to Neiner for posting the photos.

May God bless you Egon, and I am praying for smooth sailing from now on.

  11. Hi Putterdude,

Thank you soooo much for your help, and for your kindness in phoning the White Spot to see if it's wheelchair accessible. I'll probably choose Moxies as we have one in Red Deer, AB & I love their cheese and broccoli soup;)

If it's not raining I'll just tootle down to Canada Place rather than take a taxi. I have a suitcase that sits nicely on my knee (providing I pack light!!!!)

I'll give you a wave from the ship:)

    Thanks again,

  12. Hi Putterdude, I'm leaving Canada Place June 3, 2009 on my first ever cruise:D:D

I'm booked into the Delta on Hastings for the night of June 2, 09 and wondering how far I am from Canada Place. I'm travelling alone and in a motorized wheelchair. Can I motor on down there myself? Is it safe? Or should I get a taxi?

Also what is a good reasonable place to eat supper on the 2nd?

    Thanks for your help:)
