  1. The only cruise line at this time that offers studio staterooms is NCL Epic and I believe Breakaway. I have been on the Epic and two members of my group book as such. The room was surprisingly spacious. What a great idea. More cruise lines should offer this alternative. Why spend double if you are traveling alone? Poor business practice. Happy travels!

Royal Caribbean's next Oasis Class Ship "Harmony" will have studio cabins with a double bed [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] she sets sail end of 2016 for Eastern/Western Caribbean itineraries.

  2. We are going on a 7-night Canada/New England cruise Oct. 2015. Wondering if we should try for an upgrade or try to move (these are Category I OV). My mother booked this cruise and took what she was offered since the 2-BR suite was not available. I'm concerned with these being forward and very far away from MDR, etc (and below the Pacifica Theater). Thoughts on this area of the ship?

    Hi,

I cruised with friends on the same ship and itinerary last October. We had a Jr. Suite on deck 10 mid ship. Nice room, but noisy from windjammer movement in kitchen. We sailed Forward on deck six on the Vision in 2013 and I vowed to NEVER sail forward again after that. The reason being, I am prone to motion sickness. Lol. And I love to cruise. I do wear a patch, but there was rough waters on that sailing and the movement up front was horrendous for me. I did get sick, even with the patch. So...the October sailing on Brilliance last year did have a day or so of stormy seas...be warned. If up and down movement don't bother you on the seas, you'll be fine in those two rooms, if they do....move [emoji106][emoji4][emoji6]

    Happy Sailing.

  3. We did the trip following a cruise on our own. We took a lot of advice from Greatam who posts on these boards. We booked a flight from Santiago to Cusco staying two nights in Cusco to get used to the altitude. The driver that picked us up from the airport took us to the train station to pick up our pre booked train tickets on our way to the hotel. Use the porters in the airport you will need them as the altitude really zaps you on arrival.

We stayed at the sanctuary lodge at machu pichu and whilst it was expensive it was well worth it. We were met at the station and taken to the hotel... seamless and we did not have to worry about any further charges for food , drinks, massages etc.

There is a lot of uneven terrain and up hill walking but due to the altitude taking it slowly depending on how bad your knee is could be manageable. My husband has trouble with his knees giving way sometimes and he managed OK. Using a wheelchair I do not think would be manageable.

We pre arranged a taxi to pick us up from the train and take us to our hotel on return to cusco and I am glad we had as it was dark when we got back.

We had 3 nights in Cusco two before we went to machu Pichu and one on our return and one at Sanctuary lodge at aguas caliante(sp), We caught the first flight to Cusco in the morning approx 6am we had been told later flights are often cancelled.

If you do a search for Greatams post you will find a wealth of very good accurate information.

    Hi Woodley,

My parents are looking to possibly do what you did, Cusco for a couple of days and Machu Picchu, at the end of an 'Around the Horn' cruise...what time of year did you go and how was the weather. I do realize that the weather can change 'anytime, anywhere...but their visit would be first of March. Any input?

  4. Go with the original Duck tours. They get much better reviews than the super ducks, and each "duck" has its own theme, which makes it seem more personal. Their pick up locations are much more convenient and you will save time not having to travel to Charlestown. Book a few days early to make sure you get the time you want. Be prepared for not much legroom.

  5. Lol. Sorry for the confusion. My original question was regarding Newport Mansions and then I found the info online - but you cannot delete a thread - so I edited it to ask another question regarding our Boston trip. Meanwhile as I was editing it - someone had already responded. It's not your age - just my lack of tech abilities.

  6. Sounds like a good plan.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about the Newport houses. Perhaps you should start a new thread with a "Newport" title to get the right audience.

I'll give it a shot thanks.

  7. Last minute travel (LastMinuteTravel.com) has the Park Plaza for Sept 24-28 for $208 plus tax. My husband has stayed there and the hotel is fine - grand public rooms but eclectic individual rooms with "standard beds" which I assume would be two doubles. Your strategy for this hotel would be to call them ahead of time so that a room that can comfortably accommodate three people could be blocked out for you.

    Hello Carol,

Our hotels are booked and thank you again for mentioning LastMinuteTravel - we decided to go one night before the cruise (staying at the Hyatt Boston Harbor), close to the airport and cruise port.

Then post cruise we are staying at the Marriott Copley Place for three nights.

Just wanted to pick your brain on one question. One of my travel buddies is interested in taking a daytrip/tour to see Rhode Island and the beautiful mansions and houses there. Do you know of any tour companies that offer that?

  8. Will be on Celebrity Solstice sailing from Sydney on January 27,2015. First stop is Hobart. Trying to decide between, Historic Hobart, Port Arthur & Wildlife which takes up 8 hours or Richmond & Tassie Devils which is 4 hours. Both excursions go to Bonorong Wildlife Park. Not sure if there is much to see and do in Hobart around the dock area. If there is much to do within walking distance the excursion that is 4 hours long may be more desirable. Interested in hearing from others who may have done these excursions previously.

Hello Sabrefan - My name is Christine and we are on the same sailing. I have a private tour arranged that has room for up to 19 more persons. There are six of us so far (4 from AZ and 2 from Michigan) - you are welcome to join us. We only need to get a total of 20 persons and the cost will only be $125 per person. If you would like more information - you can email me cmlv150@gmail.com

    Have a great day :)

  10. I don't have any experience with VRBO's so I can't really give you advice. Have you checked the John Jeffries House? Location is good on the north side of Beacon Hill and downtown is walkable.

    Hi again Carol,

I heard back from John Jeffries place and they do not have a room available the size we need. I found a place near Braddock Park at Carleton St. in the South End and was wondering what your opinion of that area was? Again, thank you for your time.

Will check it out, thanks :)

  12. What's your budget? That is high season and hotels are pricey for your dates.

Not set in stone, but trying to stay around $200 a night - what are your thought of "VRBO" - I've used them in Italy, AZ and CA and have always had pretty good luck. I have found a couple of cute 1 BR for under $150 a night - I'm just not sure if the areas are good? One is around Fenway - if available - which I have yet to check is under $700 for four nights. Seems too good to be true :)

  13. Congratulations! You got an absolutely fabulous deal. Thanks for posting back and telling us.

    Hello Carol,

Some friends and I are also cruising out on Sept. 28 and plan on flying in on Sept 24th. We are looking to stay somewhere centrally located to most of the popular tourist sites, yet in an area that has restaurants and shopping within walking distance. We would like to avoid a rental car if possible, but may rent a car one day to drive out towards Cape Cod area? Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

  14. I've booked on the May 16 from San Diego on the Jewel. Haven't sailed on her before but somehow I snagged 9708 - booking agent said it was an extended balcony and when I view the deck plan it does look quite large. Anyone have experience with this cabin?

  15. Has anyone had experience with a Celebrity "Book and Go" package regarding airline flights. I was told when I booked a few weeks ago for a January cruise, that they would probably not look at airline tickets for the book and go cruisers until a couple of months before the cruise? My only concern is that we are cruising from Australia to New Zealand and if they wait to book our air until much later...will we all be separated on the plane and have horrible connecting flights? Any prior experience would be appreciated :)
