  1. Dan, I stand corrected. There is a Scotchie's on Falmouth Road in Montego Bay. Perhaps I'll stop there too!!

I'm going to call Liberty Tours and ask about a driver.

All we really want to do is drive from the Falmouth port into downtown Montego Bay and walk around. I read about "Richmond Hill". We'd like to drive up there too. Basically, just drive/walk around, stop every now and then for photos of the bay, eat at Scotchie's etc...

We went river rafting and the falls when our ship ported in Ocho Rios a few years ago. I wonder if "ported" is a correct word???

Thanks for the suggestions all, we're going with Ricardo Riley of Liberty Tours Jamaica.  We have a custom tour setup.

Our tentative plans so far:  Doing the Martha Brae bamboo River Rafting, Touring the Rose Hall Great House and then hitting up Scotchies for some authentic jerk chicken or fish.

    Dan

Hi Dan, I've been to Ocho Rios before on a ship and we went to the Blue Hole and ate at Scotchies. It was good, but, if your ship is docking in Falmouth, I don't think you will have enough time to visit Scotchies.

I'm just starting to do some research on Falmouth activities. It is close to Rose Hall, but a nice ride to Scotchies, unless they have a branch restaurant in Montego Bay.

I'm interested in finding a driver/tour of Montego Bay. Basically, I hope to be picked up at the ship in Falmouth, driven into and around Montego Bay. It appears Montego Bay is about 20 miles from Falmouth.

Can anyone recommend a driver in Falmouth/Montego Bay? I assume I could just get off the ship and find someone with a car.

    Thanks for any information.

  3. Thanks. What about a good spot for the sail away or sail into ports?

On the NCL Spirit, an older ship, they had a nice lounge in the front of the ship with windows on 3 sides. It was a great place to sit sailing into port. You can see straight ahead.

They didn't have that on the NCL Epic. If you wanted to see straight ahead, you had to sit in the buffet. Nor did the Epic have a "Promenade Deck" you could walk around outside. If you wanted to be outside, you had to go up to the pool deck etc..

I'm under the impression that the Breakaway improved on the Epic. It has "The Waterfront". Supposedly other changes were made too. I guess I should have started a new thread about the Breakaway.

  4. I read that Margaritaville also serves Breakfast. I assume there is a fee, but thought I'd ask.

I was on a different line ship a few years ago and they served complimentary breakfast in a specialty restaurant, but hardly any one knew about it. Thanks for any replies.

  5. Thanks for all the replies. I forgot about the Crown Princess "Circle the Caribbean" cruise. I actually paid a deposit on that cruise a couple of years ago, but couldn't go. Perhaps at some point in the future?

I found a January 2020 cruise that interests me - HAL Eurodam to Aruba, Panama Canal and other places. It doesn't go to Barbados, so, I guess that port can wait.

    Thanks again.

  6. Our tour with Kitson Howe cost $30 per person, but it didn't included lunch. Kitson had beer and water in his van.

Seems like Bonita might be a good option also. But, Kitson is a solo guy, not a company.

  7. Thanks for coming back to report on your fun day! I looked up Kitson on FB and will get in touch with him for our upcoming Antigua stop in March. I was curious, so I looked at his friends list and found yours.....Intrigued by your 843 phone number and see that you went to Hilton Head HS. Small world!

    Yes mame.

    Graduated from HHHS in 1987.

    Have fun in Antigua.

  8. Was there an extra fee for Nelson's Dockyard and/or Shirley Heights? It sounds like you had a great day with Kitson.

    Yes.

If I remember correctly it was $8 per person for both places. Nelson's Dockyard is basically a marina, but the view from Shirley Height's is worth the price of admission.

If the sky is clear, you can see Montserrat and another country/island.

    Call and ask Kitson.

The money goes to the Antigua government. All countries are making money!

  9. I am looking for group transportation for a group of 16 from the cruise port to Dickinson's -- any suggestions.

Kitson can handle groups up to 25 or so. He has vans and a mini-bus.

We were in the mini-bus because the van was already booked. As previously mentioned, Kitson's brother has a van.

Kitson can arrange small cars too.

  10. Hi

I'm interested in cost, highlights and duration of a trip with Kitson

    Thanks

    Hi,

My tour with Kitson was approximately 5 hours. We stopped along the way a few times for photos etc...

I was on-time, but in the wrong place, so our tour started around 10am, instead of 9:30am. We got back to the ship around 3pm.

We drove around the island. We visited Long Bay, Devil's Bridge, Nelson's Dockyard, Shirley Heights and a few other places. We ended the tour driving along the coast that you will see starboard cruising into the Antigua port.

    Very nice day. Thanks Kitson.

  11. Clarke,

Kitson stopped along the road and we picked some sort of fruit. We should have picked the mangoes.

A bit further down the road he pulled over and bought some pineapple. They weren't black, but were mini-pineapples.

    Very interesting. I've never seen a mini-pineapple.

Thanks for sharing Kitson with my group. I hope others call him too.

  12. Hi,

I got back from a cruise last week which stopped in Antigua. We took a tour with Kitson Howe. It was wonderful!

    Antigua is beautiful.

Kitson truly loves his home and we enjoyed visiting all of the sights. I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Thanks "Big Lava". Happy Trails brother!

I highly recommend Kitson "Big Lava" Howe for a tour of Antigua at a price much less than the cruise ships charge.

I was on a Princess ship. The fee was over $60 per person. Kitson came through for less and we saw more of the island. It was great.

Kitson may start charging more now!!

Either way, we saw the Devils Bridge, Long Bay, Nelson's Dockyard, Shirley Heights and a few places in between. Our ride back to the ship in St. John's was scenic, along the coast.

Guaranteed - book a tour with Kitson Howe and have fun in Antigua.

  13. We just got off 28 days on Emerald Princess and my wife participated in the book club. They read two different books (it was a long cruise). One was called All The Missing Girls and the other was called The Sympathizer. They met for initial meetings to get the books and then again for mid-book discussions (first book only) and again and then for a final discussion. Many people enjoyed the first book and my wife really enjoyed the second book as well but about half the people didn't read the second one as it was a much more "serious" book and they said that it "wasn't a cruise ship type of book".

The book club was facilitated by one of the cruise director's staff and the meetings were listed in the Patter.

Thanks. We are reading "Hearts of Men".
