  1. Hello,

I have posted on the disability board but wanted to post here in case someone has thoughts.

I will be cruising with both my power chair and my manual chair. While I prefer to use my power chair, I can totally use my manual chair if accessible transportation is not available or to do cool things my power can't get to. I will be traveling with a caregiver and my mother, and they can transfer me and carry me and my manual chair a few steps to boats, locations etc. We have even pushed me through a rough path at Mayan Ruins.

I'm looking for ideas for things to do like beaches, tours, activities and even things walking distance from the RCCL pier. I'm very adventurous and have done things like dolphins, sea lions, monkeys etc.

    Throw ideas out there!

    Thank you in advance!

    Jen

We are staying in San Juan for one day before and after our cruise at the Sheraton in Old San Juan.

  4. Hello,

We are sailing on the RCCL Jewel on February 12 and have yet to plan excursions. I know we are cutting it close! :)

We are sailing from San Juan and will be going to St. Thomas, St. John's, St. Kitt's, St. Marten and Barbados.

I am physically disabled and use a power wheelchair but will also have a manual wheelchair that I can use as needed for doing things. I will be traveling with my PCA and my mom, both whom can transfer me and carry me a few steps. I have been to many islands and have been good at finding fun and exciting things for me to do in the past, even if it requires a little extra effort and creativity. I'm very adventurous. We would like a mix of some beaches and some activities.

I'd appreciate suggestions for all the destinations - in the past I have had the best luck and experience with private companies vs booking through the cruise line.

    Thanks!

  5. We were on the Liberty last week and the deck 10 balcony was right outside our window. You won't smell smoke in your room but will occasionally smell it in the hall. For some reason our room occasionally smelled like a skunk.

On a different topic... and kind of a random / strange question... does anyone remember the name of the guy from India who worked in the jewelry store? He was the tall, more muscular one.

    Thanks!

  6. We are in port from 2-10p. Could someone suggest a good private tour company? Maybe we could go sightseeing and then maybe come back and find somewhere for dinner. Also, what's available right at or near the pier?

  7. Thanks for the replies!

The guy at Carnival who booked us said that this room has a private walkway that people use as a balcony of sorts. Is that true?

We were on the Carnival Dream four years ago with a room on the end and yes, getting through the hall was challenging especially when luggage was out.

  8. We are going on the Liberty and I'm guessing the wifi isn't free. How much is it?

I'm bringing my iPhone and use it for everything including reading, music, movies etc. A friend told me I could still use it by turning off my data, putting it in airplane mode and connecting to wifi.

If I put it in airplane mode and keep data on, could I utilize my internet service through my phone service without getting calls and texts? I'm on Cricket Mobile so I don't know if it even works in the Southern Caribbean.

    Thanks!

  9. Hello!

We are sailing the Carnival Liberty on 1/16 and am looking for excursion / tour suggestions. I have cruised three times before and know very well most islands aren't very accessible, especially for power chairs.

While I'd like to use my power wheelchair as much as possible, I'm also bringing my manual wheelchair and my caregiver can easily transfer me to a car, van or bus. It'd be great if the van had room inside for me to ride in my chair instead of having to collapse it - we've done that before.

We definitely want some beach time, but I also aim to find at least one adventurous thing to do at at least one island we go to. In the past I've done swimming with dolphins and sea lions, a monkey farm, Mayan Ruins and kinda speed boats.

I've almost never booked these through the cruiseline.

What can you tell me and suggest? Any wheelchair accessible vans or trolleys anywhere? Beaches I could roll to nearby? What's the best beach? Also would there be a Visitors Center or something nearby I could park my power chair at while we go out with my manual chair?

    Thanks !
