Due to my location I usually travel to the airport in the city of the departure port and stay overnight, then take the cruise transfer to the ship, and the transfer back.
However I have booked two cruises this year with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity and tried to book transfers as before only to be told that I must arrive on the day of departure and that if I stay overnight at the airport I can only get the transfer back to the airport from the ship, but not the transfer to the ship.
This seemed so stupid the first time it happened that I then contacted Celebrity who told me that I should have been able to get a transfer if I booked it in advance and joined the passengers arriving on the day in the terminal, which I have done a few times in the past.
This week the same thing happened with Royal Caribbean. You would think that the cruise lines would be trying to hold on to customers by trying to make travel easier instead of having this jobsworth mentality.
I have not had this happen with the Carnival lines such as Holland America and Princess. Has anyone had a similar experience?

We had one of these infernal toilet seats last year on the Diamond Princess. A word with the stateroom attendant and within a few minutes the seat was removed by a maintenance man and a normal seat installed.
Panic over, peeps.

What about the people passing by your cabin? :p
They can take their chances :). If they are wandering about the corridor at that time of night, good luck to them!

As I'm a loud snorer, my wife says she never worries about the noise outside the room, it's the noise INSIDE the room that is the problem.
We've had rooms near lifts and stairs in the past and there never has been a problem.

That is a complete nightmare. We did that once and you arrive in Civitavecchia station then have to lug your cases down the street to the port entrance in the heat. Then the fun starts. The buses that take you to the ship from the entrance are jam packed with people and cases and it is the transfer from hell. Never again, it was the worst ever arrival at a ship. I wasn't sure at one stage if my OH and all our cases got on the bus. Avoid this like the plague.
