Surely by making such rules they are acting responsibly, and protecting all family members from bathing in contaminated water.
A hotel is no different and should have appropriate measures in place.
I have no issues with babies having to wear swim nappies in any swimming pool; cruise, hotel, public baths etc. It was excluding them all together that concerned me, even if wearing a swim nappy. But fortunately Thomson's have confirmed infants are allowed in with swim nappies 😃

I don't think I would want a baby of mine in one of the pools. I once saw a rather large lady in the main pool on Majesty. As she was sat there, the water around her went a very delicate shade of gold.

Haha. My little one in a swim nappy would be far more hygienic and safer for others than some incontinent people would be! :p

I've just had a reply from Thomson's, in case anyone else is wondering...
Please note that for health and safety reasons we do request that all infants wear swim nappies however infants are allowed to enjoy a swim while on board.
Kind Regards

It specifies in the life onboard brochure found in the cabin that babies in nappies are not allowed in the pools.

I'm really disappointed as they're supposed to be "family friendly" cruises. I don't see how it's any different to any other swimming pool eg in a hotel. But thanks for the information.

Just wondering if babies can use the swimming pools on Thomson ships as I know some cruise lines do not permit non potty trained children in the pools.

Hi, just interested to know if you have travelled yet? And if so, what was the outcome of them being allowed in? We have just booked for July 2017 and my 1 year old will not be happy if he can't go in the pool (he gets so excited at the sight of water!); and nor will I if he can't! I can only assume the people against children in pools never use a public swimming pool :o

Grrrr (it says £45 online but I'll soon find out when I ring!). They did try to charge me £30 for the privilege of booking direct with them!!
I still have a "dilemma" though - we've decided to pay for an inside plus on deck 7 or 8 - the ones on deck 7 are forward (I've only ever been midship or aft and always on a higher deck) so concern me a little, and the ones on deck 8 are all below the swimming pool areas (I've been advised to avoid this due to dragging of sunbeds, and not just in the daytime either)!!

Thank you everyone for your replies. No we haven't chosen our cabin yet - they said we would be told at embarkation, or we could pay £45 to choose one - that would be on top of possibly upgrading to a bigger/higher deck cabin. The cost just seems to mounting :o Guess it's a decision we'll have to make, especially as it sounds they don't give upgrades (as the previous companies I've cruised with have).
Thanks again

Hi all, we have just booked our first Thomson cruise; although it will not be our first cruise, it'll be the first time we have cruised with our 1 year old
As this isn't our only holiday this year, to try and keep the cost down, we opted for the "standard" cabin which is an inside cabin on deck 2 or 3 (12m sq). However, since booking I am wondering whether we should have upgraded.
The options would be to an:
Outside on deck 2 or 3 (this would automatically give us more space - an extra 1-2m sq but knowing our luck if we booked this we'd have a small porthole (which is pointless!) and I don't really want to be seeing the waves splashing the window!! - guess I could close the curtains haha)
OR
Inside plus on deck 7 or 8 (this would give us an extra 2-3m sq).
Neither sound a lot of extra space, but am wondering if it is worth paying a bit extra given we will also have a cot in with us. Also I believe there are some advantages of being on a lower deck for less motion?
Would really appreciate hearing your views, especially anyone that has travelled with an infant.
Also, what are the chances of a free upgrade?!
Many thanks in advance.
Venice Islands - DIY?

Hi we went to Venice with a different cruise line a few years ago. We used the ship's transfers (by boat) to Venice St mark's square, but I think you could do this yourself (I think the price was similar tbh but we just went with the ship for ease).
We then did everything else by ourselves including a gondola ride. We went over to Murrano. There are plenty of people trying to encourage you over to look in the factory/ shop and you go for free (I would usually be wary of this but my dad had told me about it) so off we went! It was a great experience, being whizzed over on a private jet boat!! However.... The return journey was not free (as we were lead to believe) so we had to use the public boats back. They were very easy to use. I'm sorry I can't remember the cost but it wasn't too bad. Enjoy. Venice is wonderful. We had a balcony cabin in that cruise so enjoyed the sail in/out very much.
