We are in the process of World Cruising the house as per the insurance company's requirements and my  thoughts

    All windows locked

All doors locked and no keys left onsite

    Batteries removed from tv remotes

All electric plugs removed (except for alarm , Deep Freeze  or security lights)

    Alarm set

If you have a desktop pc a master back up is completed

    the water system drained totally

if car in garage try to not use handbrake as the disc can stick to pads making it unmovable

Clean body work of car bird dirt can leave paint marked.

These are the best I can do so Bon Voyage and safe journey.

    Just your very very average

  2. Also saw 2.  One on the first morning.  He was eating, so quite interesting.  The second was sleeping; in fact one of the advanced team thought he was a rock...alas, he didn't do too much other than an occasional roll over.

  3. I did hear the drydock is supposed to expand the gym, at the cost of some space in observation.  A welcome change for me.  The only time observation is full is when there is a function there.  I would guess they will move such functions elsewhere on the ship.  Not sure where though.

  4. Yes, we did receive the information via email.

As to Test Kitchen...here was I wrote on tripadvisor:

I have a gluten allergy that I warned the restaurant about. It was in our reservation. I then told my server about it as well. Despite these warnings, FOUR times food came to me with gluten obviously in the dish. In addition, I specifically asked to be told of any dish that would be significantly modified. In spite of this, they left out a main component of one of my appetizers.

This sort of service should never happen, especially at these prices.

The rest of my party greatly enjoyed their meal, so if you can eat freely, enjoy. If not, look for a more accommodating place to eat.

That was my review from 2012....of course that was a long time ago (will be 7 years by the time we get back to Cape Town).

I do now recall that everyone else did love it, but you can see why the restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth.

  5. My own experience regarding ship size and service is that once you get beyond 350 or so passengers, the service takes a remarkable drop.  At a size of 500 and beyond, you just don't see the same faces often enough for you to build a relationship with the crew, and they see too many other people as well. This has been the case on different lines as well.  We quite enjoyed our food on Regent, but the service was quite noticeably different and definitely not in a good way.

Everyone has their sweet spot/preference for ship size, but for me 300-400 is definitely the way to go.

Bring it on threeforthree! (Although I am better downwind than upwind.)  Hope you are in training 🙂

I have been....usually do either 5 miles on treadmill, or walk for about 90 minutes in the park.  I will probably do more in gym than on deck, but I like to walk a LOT 🙂

Hi all WC'ers  I have heard on the wires that the wonderful chef David Bilsland will be on for the first 2 sectors so get ready to have  clothes with extra inches or more walking the deck.

    Joe

I plan to lead the league in laps on the cruise....so I'm game to eat anything!

  8. threeforthree....excursions are highly subjective. Hard to make recommendations when you don't know the person's interests. Myster and I have chosen some food adventures for ports we have visited previously:

Hong Kong, China - Central Foodie Adventure HKG-M

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - Saigon Street Food Experience SGN-B

Shanghai, China - Dumpling Revolution SHA-O

Myster watched a Netflix series called Shaka Zulu. There is an excursion in Richards Bay, South Africa that was used in the filming:

    Shakaland Zulu Village RCB-E

Pink Lake is one of the things we read about in Senegal so we chose an excursion there that includes a Village Feast:

Pink Lake Retba & Village Feast DKR-B

Musical Rocks situated in the 'Moon Landscape' in the rocky section of the Namib Desert is supposed to be very interesting so we booked:

    Treasures of Namib WVB-B

Our splurge will be dinner at the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte from the port of Bordeaux:

DINNER AT THE CHÂTEAU SMITH LAFITTE BOD-Q

Obviously these choices reflect our interests. Not necessarily things not to be missed. Just things we don't want to miss. There are many ports with Hop On Hop Off bus tours and we will use that option for some ports.

Not sure if this helps you.

Thanks for the list. I was off at a bridge tournament, and haven't checked back in a while. I see you like food...if so, consider the Balinese cooking tour; we took that in 2011, and loved it. We are looking to go to Goree as well. A little disconcerting that we might not make it back to the ship. Maybe if there is enough interest they will organize a tour.

    Getting excited!
