  1. I have heard or read on one of the threads hear that the Sensation no longer has trays in the buffet area. Could someone who might have recently been on her be able to tell me do they have trays in the buffet. Haven't been on Carnival in 13 years and I walk with a can. Any help would be appreciated.

  2. I don't remember the name. I know that we were at the shopping strip center square and it was up about 2 block from the center. You could probably ask any of the locals in that area and they can tell you. That's what we did.

    Thanks

  3. We actually go to a local grocery store a couple blocks off the strip and by a large bottle for about $2.00. We bought a whole case 2 years ago and gave them out to family members. The grocery stores sell it much cheaper but they are not by the port.

Do you have the name of the grocery store that you bought the whole case. Would like to by that.

  4. Hadn't been on one of the larger ships, We are trying to decide what nights to schedule specialty restaurants. What nights the formal nights are? Our trip is Nov. 12th - Nov 18th - Nassau, St. Thomas, St Maartin. Also anything that you tell me about your favorite restaurants. Thanks in advance.

  5. Thanks for all the info so far. Said I would have more questions.

Yes I did find the e-mail for the maître d'

How is the muster drill, I know on Royal they had started having some of the stations meet inside and just go over things. I will probably be in my wheelchair for that one, can't stand in one place for very long with just my cane.

Will plan on ordering the water.

How are the beds? I know on Royal some of the ships have been getting changed to new beds and they have been a bit to firm for most people's liking.

Has anyone ever been on a charter cruise, I guess I am going to have to call the company that is putting it on and find out if I have to go thru them for request, etc or if I can go straight to Carnival, like for things like the table arrangenent

  6. Okay more questions

I have heard something about assigned boarding times. Is that true. I also read that there is early boarding for suites, and the higher up in rewards groups. Is there any special boarding for handicapped or should I get something called TFFT?

  7. On sea days the brunch is good.

I like the steak and eggs especially.

I had read something about a brunch on sea days. On Royal breakfast was served in the dining room and what they call the Windjammer. Is the Lido the same as the Windjammer? Do they have omelet stations?

  8. Welcome to Carnival!

As the previous poster said, you can carry on up to 12 units per person of non-alcoholic drinks as long as they are in cans or cartons.

You can go see the Maitre d' on the first day regarding your dining time. There is a priority list for persons who wish to change, your request will be processed after theirs.

Feel free to bring a fan, extension cord, or power strip in good shape. They cannot contain a surge protector.

The Sensation is pretty easy to get around. You won't have any issues at all. Pack your patience for the elevators, though. Your ability to get one quickly will depend entirely on how polite your fellow cruisers are, and that varies from cruise to cruise.

Make sure you enjoy all the food offerings, but we almost always eat in the MDR. I enjoy being waited on :) The Warm Melting Chocolate Cake is wonderful, and I'm not a huge fan of chocolate!

Thanks for your response. Some of the things I am familiar with we have cruised Royal for years and am used to dealing with the elevator, because of my disability I can't really use the stairs.

  9. I'm sure you'll get some more comprehensive answers as the more dedicated cruisers wake up. But I'll do the best I can!

    * Water is NOT ALLOWED to be brought on board, unless it's in cans. Other non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in groups of 12 containers (cans or boxes - not bottles, which are prohibited) of 12 ounces or less. You can buy water for use on board before your cruise - 12 bottles for $4.50.

    * The odds on getting your chosen dining time are decent by either getting on the waiting list or seeing the maitre d' when you board.

    * Small fans are OK as long as they're in decent shape.

    * Socket/USB plugs are allowed as long as they DO NOT have a circuit breaker.

    * One of Carnival's iconic dishes is the warm chocolate melting cake in the MDR. I didn't think much of it the one time I had it, but there are lots of fans of it here and elsewhere. As for main dishes, I thought the short ribs and prime rib were excellent, though I don't think there was anything special about them - just well prepared and tasty. The steakhouse steaks are great, though they're an extra cost option in the MDR.

    * Always keep in mind that Carnival is about FUN and the many ways to enjoy yourself.

    Have a wonderful cruise.

*Bummer about the water - I have to have my bottled water

*Have already asked the charter agency to put me on the wait list for early dinner and if we don't get it before boarding the maître d' will be our 1st stop when we board - I really need early for health reasons. But then if we don't get it till late am afraid we will get crappy seats for the shows. The travel agency that is handling the cruise has it set up so that the seats area assigned by when you booked except for the suites and a couple of other categories. And the shows are part of what we are all on board for.

*Fan is brand new and runs on batteries and so don't have to worry about the plugs

*The plug we are using does not have a surge protector, so we are good there

    * Thanks for the dinner suggestions. We are pretty easy to please and I did read that after dry dock they are adding some extra restaurants.

    * And we differently plan to have a good time. This cruise is all people who love and a passionate about the group Celtic Thunder. Look them up and watch some of their YouTube music. Plus there are lots of more Irish groups that CT has invited along with an Irish dance group. So all the entertainment on board will be Irish in some way including the karaoke and the pool music, etc. And everyone on board loves the lads of Celtic Thunder. This is their 3rd CT cruise but 1st one on Carnival and on top of that it's their 10 year anniversary as a group.

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions. Am looking forward to others. Plus I am sure I will have other questions I think of.

  10. I am doing Carnival cruise in Nov on Sensation after dry dock this year - switching from Royal because of a charter cruise we are going on. Would like to know some in's and out's of Carnival.

Have a handicapped room but don't always use the wheelchair. So would like to know things like - what is their policy on carrying cases of water on board - what might be different about boarding - special line or boarding for handicap - was given late dining (early was not available ) - what are chances of getting it changed before or after boarding - rules concerning bringing a small fan - bringing a multiple socket/usb plug. - any special foods to not miss getting - have heard it is hard to get from one end of ship to another without some difficulty - how is it getting an elevator - any other Carnival info that might help

  11. Thanks for the info. I am trying to decide which room I want and there are about 5 available but one is D and the others are E. This is for a chartered tour for our favorite singing group, Celtic Thunder. The cruise was just announced in December and the only rooms left are inside and ocean view. They went fast. The group has a huge following in the states, Canada and Australia. I am hoping to see a roll call come up for the cruise. Also we need to learn everything about Carnival, we have done 6 cruises but they have all been on Royal.

  12. Sailing May 1 on Liberty OTS for the first time. Have a few questions that I can't seemed to find answers for elsewhere in the forum.

    1. Electrical Outlets in Stateroom - DH uses a CPAP machine. We're staying in a Junior Suite. Is there an electrical outlet by the bed he can use? Or should we bring our own extension cord/power strip? Will we be able to bring on our own distilled water? Or is it available on the ship?

    2. Pros/Cons of Junior Suites - Have booked 1312 and 1316. Mid-ship, deck 10 on starboard side. Has anyone sailed in either of these suites before? If so, what are the pros/cons?

    3. Balcony Divider - Will we be able to open the balcony divider between the two suites at any time? The suites are adjoining; but, it would be nice to have one large balcony to share rather than two. .

    4. Laundry - does Liberty have self laundry facilities? Or do you just have to send your laundry "out" like at a hotel? Pretty sure I know the answer; but, thought I would still ask. If laundry is sent out, does RCI offer a one time "stuff the bag" discount like Norwegian does?

I was on a CPAP machine a number of years ago and we brought duct tape with us to tape down the extension cord so you don't drip on during the night or day for that matter.

  13. We went there with Acquarius Sea Tours and it was fantastic.

They have 3 stops. Coral Gardens to snorkel, starfish point, then stingray city. Captain Mario and Dwayne are fantastic. They know the area well and have great boat that holds 18 ppl. They also gave us Pizza for lunch and water all for $50pp.

Going there again next week it was so GREAT!

So you obliviously thought that Acquarius Sea Tours was great, I am looking at going with them in Oct of Liberty. I read about someone else on another thread that said they were very helpful with her slight disability. I have severe fibromyalgia and he causes muscle and nerve pain, intensifies pain among many other things. I also have a bad knee that sometimes acts up and would make it hard to climb a ladder and move around the boat. But they were very helpful today and said that they would have no problem helping me up and down the ladder if I need it. They said not to worry about anything and would make sure to make my excursion enjoyable. Glad to her about your enjoying them.

  14. I have severe Fibromyalgia for the last 11 years and both knees have Meniscus tears, one is bone on bone and has been for about 5 years. Because of the Fibro all pain is intensified and so I have put off doing surgery. When we cruise or fly we always take a regular wheelchair with us for getting around in airports and cruise terminals but also just in case the knee goes. It did on our New England Fall Cruise a few years ago and had to use a wheelchair to get back to the ship and then used mine for the next couple of days onboard. I kept it elevated and iced whenever I could and by 2 days later when we got to Boston I was able to walk a large part of the Freedom Trail. I walk with a cane whenever I go anywhere outside the house and whenever I go to Walmart or Target I use a scooter if the knee is bothering me.

Good Luck, at least get a cane in case the knee buckles or locks, take a couple of ice packs and request extra pillows to elevate the knee.

  15. Have a question? Would like to know if the fitness center has windows all around. We have never been on Liberty or any ship in her class and so can't tell enough from her new pictures today to tell. Figure there used to be but with the new staterooms are they still there. Love being able to use the bicycles, etc. and enjoy looking out into the ocean view. Thanks ahead of time.
