Hello all, husband and I (and toddler and MIL) will be on be on Liberty of the Seas Aug 14th. We are both AOW divers. We’d love to dive Mary’s Place while we are in Roatan. I guess my question is, is it possible to ever negotiate this with the official shore excursion group in advance? No, right? Ideally I’d like the assurance that we will get back to the boat in time if we are going to leave the toddler and grandma on the boat. There’s an AOW shore excursion for certification but not sure which company and which dives they’re doing.

Dove Roatan many times, mostly as a ship shore excursion.  99% of the time you go to Anthony's Key, which is so close to the Reef your surface interval is back at their dock. Love Mary's Place too, but it's all up to the Captain and weather.  All of the dive sites on that part of the reef are fish bowls!  The dive shop on Liberty OTS is awesome!

  2. Two days ago we booked the Diamond Princess 16-day Hawaii for this Oct in response to that free upgrade promo!  Couldn't believe we got a BD Caribe deck balcony for Interior price ($1,100 ea).  Funny how the Oceanview was more than a balcony. Today however that price is gone.

So if I'm going by the posted cruise port times from Carnival are they off, or does the cruise ship adjust the time to the port's timezone. For instance my port times are from 8am to 4pm per Carnival. Do I need to adjust them? Sorry to miss you. I reached out to Maple Leaf per Kathy from the earlier post. I'll either have to pay double or pay more for a dive master guided tour any suggestions?

Every ship does it differently. I havent been able to figure out why. But this trip, we stay on ship time. Now depending on where your ship originates, ship time may also be the time in a port you are visiting. Anyway, I will end up going with Sand Dollar.

I definitely know you will make it as its only a ten minute walk from the Cruise dock. Barring your ship arrives on time. If you're still interested contact Susan at Dive Paradise and let her know William W needed a dive buddy. I only have 22 dives as life has intervened too many times, but I love diving Cozumel!

Well, I just realized that Cozumel is an hour later than our ship time - out of Galveston. So 9 am ship time is actually 10 am Cozumel time. So it wont work this trip.  But I loved all their dive packages I saw online - great info for future reference. Enjoy you dive!

  6. I'd be interested - but I'm on Carnival Dream and we arrive that day at 9am. Not sure what time Vista gets there. On a two-week Back to Back on Dream and then get on RC Liberty OTS the 3rd week. Diving 7 days in all.  (Logged 192 dives in the last 6 years 😉

  7. Totally agree the quality of food is very subjective. We are not big foodies and have never had "bad" food in 42 cruises. However, we are 3 days in on the Dream right now - unbelievable how bad the dining room food is. We had lobster tail last night. It was the tiniest thing I had ever seen. It was chewy, stringy, tasteless, and fell apart like it had been shredded.  All 3 of us tried another and it was worse than the 1st one. The accompanying vegetable was broccoli.  It was 1 tiny spear (I swear it was 1 inch) and rice that was a glob of mush.   Our creme brulee was room temperature (almost cold).  Very disappointing. We'll stick to buffet for now. Hopefully our 2nd cruise next week on Dream will be better. Wait staff excellent as always.

Not an appropriate answer you were given.  But, realistically, 4 weeks would be about the minimum you could expect for refunds right now.  Two recent full paid cancellations I made with HAL and Princess took at least  six weeks to appear on credit card and both came in more than one installment.   Back in the beginning of the cancellation nightmare, 144 days was my longest wait so at least we’ve gotten somewhere.  Keep an eye on it.

I'm fine waiting 4+ weeks for the refund. But they won't even START the refund process until its officially canceled. Frustrating.

I did have an issue once where the agent I spoke to put me through to a Supervisor and she was able to expedite the refund and I got my money back in 3 payments over 2 weeks. She expediated it due to an error Princess made in the booking. Since you have used a TA they may have to do it for you. I don’t believe the IT excuse they gave you

I've been wondering about that. Seems more like a cash flow issue. But who knows.

I realize nothing can help you now, but there are TA's in US who give a cash discount off the cruise fare instead of OBC which may or may not be hard to spend.  And you have your own agent with their own phone number and email to contact, so you are not dealing with a call center.  Maybe your lesson will be to look into that and see if you cannot find something better.  I do know if my only option was same as yours, I'd probably be booking directly with Princess and forego the OBC.

    Good luck going forward.

Thank you. Yes, may start looking for a real TA. This big box one offered $6K in a Cash Card. Hard to resist.

  11. We've been lucky enough to have been on 42 cruises and never had an issue. Until now.

4 weeks ago I cancelled a fully refundable World Cruise and it still shows as an active booking. My TA has called them numerous times. The only thing Princess will say is that it's an IT issue and until its resolved they can't cancel it. In the meantime they still have my $9,700 deposit.

I spoke with Princess about another cruise I booked directly with them, and mentioned this issue. She had never heard of this - but said I may have a long wait since IT is inundated with Medallion issues.

Do I have any other recourse?  Is there another number I can call - or person I can email?  Or do I have to go through my TA and just wait indefinitely?  My "TA" is  basically a call center.  Never get the same agent twice.  Great for OBC but not for personal service. There's a lesson here I'm sure.

    Anway, thanks for any advice.

I don't know but a lot of people received incredible "last minute" offers recently via email. Things like $125.00 dollars total for a 5 days cruise going solo and that's a VIFP offer not Casino. $25.00 a day single occupancy. I jumped on it and I figure it's due to Carnival deciding to throw open a bunch of rooms that had previously been marked closed for capacity control. As the CDC recommendations ease and as Carnival has decided to go 95% vaccinated route I think they've decided to get as many people on as possible since on board purchases drive profit more than selling the room. I'm planning on the ship being full or close to it which is fine with me. I'm vaccinated and I like a crowd, I like a party atmosphere. So, who can say except I do think a lot of rooms were heavily discounted to fill them up quickly.

We just booked a 7-day Caribbean out of Galveston for July 31 with a VIFP rate of $250 ea.  Too good to pass up.

Going on the Horizon leaving the 15th of March. We are excited and looking forward to our cruise. I'm thinking if it was unsafe to sail that Carnival would be canceling cruises.

    Any thoughts??

We leave Saturday on Horizon with our 10-year old granddaughter. Should be interesting.

I would love to scuba dive but my husband doesn't and I kind of promised him I would leave my gear at home and do tours with him.   I have left him on ships too many times while I was diving.

I had to comment 😋  I too am a scuba diver and have left my husband many times on the ship/shore while I blew bubbles.  We will be on a World Cruise in 2021 and I am planning on diving as many exotic places as I can.  (Luckily, with my husband's blessing).  I was just wondering if you did any research about where to dive in Bali before you decided to do a land tour?  We will be there in early March and I understand that may not be the best time to dive.  But just wondered if you had any thoughts/suggestions.

Always stay on Caribe on Royal class ships but only Baja was open for booking .....figured why not? Same view....just one deck higher!

We usually do as well, but this time we booked one deck lower; we're in a BA midship balcony on Dolphin.

  16. Congratulations CruzerDeb!  It really IS an addiction.  Very happy to see another family addicted to "Ocean Crack".  Now that we're both retired - it's pretty much all we do!  Really downsized so that we could afford to travel.  Currently have 8 cruises booked and can't wait for Fall 2021 to open so we can book another.  Gonna keep it up as long as our health holds out.

That depends on a few factors. If the deal is still going on, you're good. If it's not and there are no OBC deals at the moment, then you lose the OBC. At least that was how it was explained to me when I changed from Alaska 2019 to 2020.

Exactly.  Today is the last day of the deal for free gratuities.
