Hi, We were booked on this cruise. We used FCDs to book. We cancelled a week ago because of the uncertainty of it all. The FCDs go back into our account. No cancellation fee this far out, but cancellation fees kick in in the next couple of days, I understand. We will book something else when there is a vaccine!
Cheers,
Lesley

Yes, we have just disembarked Sea Princess in Sydney after 28 days circumnavigation of Australia Sydney to Sydney. The Captain decided not to go to Hobart because of bad weather in that vicinity. We had an extra day in Adelaide, Burnie on a different day, and back on correct it itinerary for Melbourne. A great cruise. Calm seas. Weather perfect, if a bit cool in Adelaide.
Cheers, Lesley and Des from Melbourne

A great position to stay - just a correction it is Therry Street and did you mean Degraves Street? Just about anywhere in the CBD (Central Business District) is in a good position to stay, all close to public transport.
WAVTAM, what type of restaurant do you like to eat at? Melbourne has some fabulous cafes hidden away in its lanes and arcades. As well as the CBD, there is Docklands and Southbank for both accommodation and cafes/restaurants.

Hi, just dropped in to say it is Hardware Lane for the packed cafes for breakfast.

As an alternative to taxi or walk to the train, but have only used it to get to the airport, not from - near the terminal building stands a gentleman selling $15 tickets on the shuttle to the airport, and the shuttle is parked right beside him. The price may have increased in the last 12 months, but still cheaper and more convenient than the train.

Good to know, thanks. We will be in Perth next week.Just a tip for any cruise visitors to Perth - make a couple of hours available to visit the wildflower displays at Kings Park in the centre of Perth from now until early October 2018.We are having one of the best wildflower season ever.
The variety of plants and flowers in bloom will rock you socks off and you will see many unique varieties not seen in any other part of the world.
Google - Wildflowers in Kings Park to see some photos - you will be amazed, stunned and they sell good coffee and food in the Park as well

We hired a taxi and driver for a couple hours of sightseeing. Sorry, I don't remember the cost. Among other things, he took us to a nice park where we all four of us got out of the taxi for a couple of minutes to take photos. My sister and I left our handbags on the floor of the back seat. That must be when the driver stole money from our bags. Be careful!

Hi Mary & Steve,
Sorry, but I don't think I can help you with shore excursions. As we live in Melbourne, we have no need of coach trips because we use our car. The only ones that I know of are with large buses. I hope you find what you are after, and that you enjoy your time in Melbourne.

Hi Arie,
Just to let you know that on Christmas Day in Melbourne, the following will be open -
the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, the Eureka Tower, the Aquarium, the Zoo, the Botanical Gardens (but the information centre and tour bookings will be closed), Federation Square, and some of the Southgate cafes.
I can give you more details if any of these attractions appeal to you.
Also - on Christmas Day public transport is free.
Melbourne's weather around Christmas is a bit unpredictable, but a picnic lunch and swim at the beach would be a novel Christmas Day activity for you, I would imagine!
I hope this helps,
Lesley

Hi Arie,
Yes, a bit of a challenge, but give me a day or two to get back to you with some suggestions. I am away from home until tomorrow evening, but can answer you better then.
Cheers, Lesley

Hi marynsteve
You asked about tours in Melbourne. My suggestion for a day in Melbourne would be to take the light rail in to the city and board the free hop on hop off bus which goes to many of Melbourne's atractions ie the Melbourne Cricket Ground for a tour and the National Sports Museum, the Arts Centre and National Gallery, Federation Square including the Ian Potter gallery of Australian art, Melbourne Museum etc etc. Other nearby attractions are Old Melbourne Gaol (guided tours available), Melbourne Star observation wheel, Eureka Tower for a bird's eye view of Melbourne, the Shrine, botanical gardens (bus tour is very good), the Aquarium, Southgate etc. If you would like more details about any of these places, just ask!

Just got off the Golden Princess. Each evening from 5pm until 7pm Skywalkers was exclusively for Platinum/Elite/Suite passengers, with special nibblies, and certain drinks/cocktails were $7 each.

No, I am not a Sitmar cruiser, but way back in 1958, as a teenager, I sailed from Melbourne to Tilbury Docks, London, and return, on Orient Line ships Orion and Orsova - a total of 64 days. I thought why not(?), and recently applied to Princess for credit for these voyages, and were awarded them! Very happy!
For proof I supplied photocopied pages from my Trip Diary, which included Captain, Staff Captain and other autographs, plus entries written on departure and arrival dates, plus I listed the dates of all the port visits along the routes. I also sent a photo of a tea strainer won on board, showing the badge and name of the SS Orsova. Thank you, Princess.

Sorry, in the above post I meant to say Shanghai, not Shanhai!

We are cruising on the Azamara Journey from Hong Kong to Shanhai, leaving Hong Kong on the 17th February 2014.

Long time lurker here! Yes, I sailed on the Orion and the Orsova in 1958 to UK and back, as an 18 yr old, with my parents and siblings. Things you don't see any more - community bathrooms down the passageway, and also separate small rooms where a steward would run for you a hot seawater bath.
