  1. Unfortunately, I am not optimistic that Princess will be able to sail by the end of May because I believe the cruise ports will still be restricted.

OTOH, the cruise lines are hemorrhaging money. If there is any chance they will be allowed to sail, they will, even with a partially filled ship.

Financial circumstances for the cruise lines are dire. They have had to refund or FCC thousands upon thousands of passengers, not to mention the huge costs of maintaining the ships.

We have cruises booked for late July and over Thanksgiving week. I hope we are able to sail then.

  2. Just be prepared to pay a pretty hefty fee to have the fish processed and sent home. My husband did this a few years ago. He caught halibut and salmon, then had them smoked and sent home. I had my reservations about the fish arriving home, or what condition it would be in, but all was good. Delish!!

We are boarding the Ruby in Sydney on March 8,  so far things look good down under, hopefully we will be fine.  Will take extra precautions anyway.
I’ve noticed a few people on here talking about people with colds should stay in their cabins.  I have allergies that cause me to cough, sometimes frequently, although I still cough into my elbow or a Kleenex.  My DH has COPD which causes him to cough also. I hope we aren’t banished to our cabin because people think we are “ sick” 😳🤔

I have the same issue. I have a pretty constant cough and sometimes runny nose due to allergies. I also cough, sometimes severely, because I often swallow something (food or beverage) the "wrong way." This leads to a coughing fit where I usually have to leave the room for a few minutes to go cough my head off outside or in the restroom.

  4. I think you should go and have a great time. You have insurance, so you're in good shape. Just take normal hygiene precautions.

If you will be constantly worried while onboard, then that doesn't sound like much of a vacation. In that case, you should cancel.

We have a Mexican Riviera cruise coming up in April and an Alaska cruise in July. Unless the cruises are cancelled, we plan on going.

  5. We were in L301 over Christmas. The balcony in this room is significantly larger than the neighboring balconies.

It also has super easy access to the pool area, grill, pizza, and buffet. Elevators right outside, but not noisy. There was a little hallway noise, but considering that there were 700 children on board, it was pretty good.

    We enjoyed it.

I have one more suggestion for your Alaskan trip, bring a pair of binoculars that are fog proof and waterproof.  I used Wingspan NaturePro 8x42 binoculars and was very satisfied.  At the time I was able to buy them for less than $100 on Amazon but I think prices have gone up a bit.  I bought them because of their compact size which is perfect for travel.

Thank you for your binocular recommendation. Shopping for binoculars has always been a frustrating experience for me. Now I have a better understanding of how they work, and the specs and price of the Wingspan model you suggested sound about right for my use.

  7. Finding the right camera for an individual is a challenge...so many factors to consider.

I just bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ300 bridge camera. It just arrived, so I am pretty excited (and a little nervous) about getting started with it.

Some of the factors going into my choice::

    * Smaller and lighter than a DSLR.

    * No additional lenses to schlep

    * Somewhat weather and dust resistant.

    * I am already familiar with the Lumix line of cameras and LOVE them.

    * Price was right

    * I'm coming from lower level digital cameras, so it is a step up for me, but not as big a step as a DSLR or mirrorless camera

    * Nice quality lens

    * Reasonable zoom capability for the sensor.

    * Good reviews from online sources that I trust

    Super hard decision!

Since you are already familiar with using a DSLR, it should be easy for you to learn.

There are quite a few good choices out there. Let us know what you decide!

I have not had that experience. Most every time there are those that will hold the doors open while that person gets on. Same they are getting off. I am sure you are aware. Two scooters are taking up the entire elevator.

Yes, I am sure that the scooters are annoying to some because they take up so much room. Heck, sometimes they annoy me, too! You're right, most of the time most people are kind and courteous.

It seems that almost everyone, at one time or another, when wanting to go UP has gotten on an empty elevator going DOWN just so they can get in one for the ride back up!!

If the elevators are busy, I just get onto the first one that is available, up or down.

My husband must use a scooter to get around on a ship. Some people always rush past to get on the elevator, so he often waits a long time.

  10. On our April 5 Century cruise, I saw an attendant a couple of times in the restroom right outside the buffet area. I think they are there during peak times to try to prevent the spread of illness. After all, if someone is in there, it helps ensure that people wash their hands. Also, they immediately clean the stall just used.

Not my idea of a fun job, but it could really help prevent illnesses.

  11. On our cruise last week on Century, I had made reservations online for the same time each night. Each evening we had the same table and waiter.

When we didn't want to eat in the dining room for formal night, we just let then know.

One night we forgot to let them know we weren't dining that night--no consequences, no changed table, no bad looks.

On Century, I think they did a great job with Select Dining. OTOH, it is a much smaller ship than the others.

  12. So sorry you had dining, front desk, and charging issues. I hope your next cruise is better!

And, to those who say it's not the worst cruise ever, I don't think she meant that it was the worst cruise anyone has ever had, just the worst one she had.

I can certainly see why these events would upset the mood of your cruise experience.
