I just booked for next year, so just started research. Don't know if you have found answer already or are already on your cruise. Thought I would share this post found on cc with you.

Great info. Yes I am active on my roll call, even managing the shared tour spreadsheet, all the tours I am not going on, since I am DIY, all ports. The only one paying private transport is Livorno to get to Florence earlier. I think I would like to visit inside the Colosseum first, get off at Ostiense, for that, and take metro. That way I can just enjoy Rome the rest of the day. I will continue to research, individual train tkts, vs BIRG vs BIG, and taking express train back around 4-4:30. Will all so continue to research Colosseum tkts online vs Palatine hill. I did find US college discounts are Greece not Italy. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the quick response. Great info! I thought of going to Roma termini instead of Ostione, so good, you think I can do that as well. I will be traveling with my college student daughter and I know I can get discounted Colosseum tkt for her, but do you recommend purchasing online ahead of time? If I do, I forgo the discount, but I am mostly concerned about standing in a long line for an hour to get into Colosseum, when I can be eating gelato, or having Cacio e Pepe at Piazza Navona, ha,ha! What are your thoughts, online tkt or wait to get in Rome? Appreciate your input.

Hi: I think I might try something similar to cr_hunter's post above, and even found the option of the express train, Frecciabianca, to return arriving port at 5:39. I will be on NCL Spirit arriving Friday, June 3rd, 8am and ship leaves 7pm. Next port is Naples as well. My question is will I have time to enter the Colosseum only, I was thinking a timed underground 1.5 hrs tour, to make sure I could by pass the lines. The only other thing I want to accomplish in Rome is Trevi and Spanish Steps, plus walk and enjoy a bit of Rome on my own. I know the Colosseum stop is said to be Roma Ostiense. I know many people have different opinions, therefore I am asking many people, plus doing my homework. Hope someone is out there! Thanks in advance.

Carol:
Thanks for your information. I had read you lived in CA before moving to Croatia. I am in the Ventura County area, and my daughter goes to CSUN. I will be sure and remember it is your birthday when we arrive. Be well! Maria

Great advise! My daughter and I are excited to see, at least a little of Croatia! I know you can't recommend places to eat, but as our tie is limited, are there many places to grab some good local food for a quick lunch? Thanks for sharing your knowledge of your retirement home. BTW, we will be visiting from California where the beach water is cold, but I do not enjoy it, especially if the air temp is not very hot. Thanks

Our ship's itinerary changed which takes us to your wonderful port of call, Dubrovnik, Croatia. I have been reading all of your great many pages of info. I will be traveling with my Daughter (20), and we wanted to explore the town, maybe walk wall, possible cable car if you think it is a must. On our cc roll call, we have been sharing rides and tours. Can cabs be shared? are there mini vans that accommodate 8 pax, for ride into town and can we just catch at port, or do we need to reserve? I was even thinking of utilizing the public buses mentioned in http://www.tzdubrovnik.hr/lang/en/get/kako_doci_do_dubrovnika/2112/arrival_by_boat.html
Are buses an ok way to travel?
Also, Swimming activities, I know weather unpredictable, but your thoughts? Is there such a place as a safe cliff jumping? I read all about the Australian, and not looking for anything crazy.
Thanks in advance for all your help, we so appreciate your input.

Have a great cruise "coscab". I know we are looking forward to our Med cruise on the Spirit next year.

I don't know about sofa side, or noise from connecting door, but I did study the deck plan before I made call NCL to book, and asked them about the room layout. I was more concerned about noise from public spaces located above or below, which I read so much about. I booked an inside mid, deck 9, on the Spirit, with cabins above and jewelry store below. Just FYI about noise.
