  1. Thanks! You too! I'm starting to research the fly/snooze/cruise packages. It seems expensive for 4 people, but I'm guessing cheaper in the long run than doing everything separately. So far I've only looked for Marriott ones since I have rewards through there (but not enough points this time around). I'm going to keep searching. I am glad we are coming in the night before because the relaxing and having a leisurely breakfast sound appealing!

The four hotels closest to the port are Country Inn & Suites, Residence Inn, Homewood Suites and Radisson at the Port.

The first three have free breakfast the Radisson does not but does have a restaurant onsite, a family restaurant next door and a McDonalds across the street.

If you don't want to do a one way car rental you might consider a prearranged shuttle. Cortrans, Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Travelynx and Executive VIP Limo are my suggestions.

    Have a wonderful cruise!!!

  2. I know they get good reviews consistently here on CC and I am looking for a transfer for one person, from an on site Universal Studios hotel to Port Canaveral (NCL cruise). Would I be better off just taking a cab? I realize the Towncar is probably more $ but how much do you think? Is it worth knowing I have a car reserved perhaps? How far/long is that trip? Not interested in renting a car and driving.

Thanks in advance. I'm just looking for advice.

A taxi will cost you $$$$ because the port is 45-60 min away from the airport.

Try contacting Cortrans, Cocoa Beach Shuttle or Travelynx and see if they can help you out.

  3. Just returned on RCI Majesty - shuttled by bus from Port Everglades. Parked at Radisson. Car was fine. Parking lot was fine. They were there when we arrived. All good.

Thank you so much for this update!!!

So glad you made it safely back!!

  4. Any word yet as to if/when Port Canaveral will be open. Wondering if Freedom will be in port tomorrow.

We are on the Freedom of the seas now and our Captain just announced that we will arrive in Port Canaveral on time in the morning, so seems you are good.

Are you in Canaveral now? The reason I asked is our car is parked at the Radisson and we are hoping there is no palm tree through it....

  5. We are currently on the Freedom of the Seas and due back Sunday. Our car is parked at the Radisson. Could any of you local guys give us an idea if we have a car to come back to?

Prayers for all who are there......

  6. If anyone on board reads this can you please update me on any news of the hurricane or if the ship will get back to Orlando on Sunday. My friend is hopefully joining the ship. She is worried because her Delta flight via Atlanta has been cancelled. She has now got another carrier to Atlanta and hopes to drive to Orlando. Thanks.

We are onboard now currently in beautiful and calm St Martin......BUT we start heading back tonight! UGH!!!

Captain says we will have a rough ride back as we will be behind the storm. He hopes the Port of Canaveral will be back open by Sunday but has no way of knowing until they assess everything once it passes through. He is keeping us well informed so if I hear anything I will try to remember to post.

I suffer terribly from aniexty....so right now I am just trying to hold it together. Honestly I am more worried about what we will find when we get back in since my car was left parked at the Radisson!!!

  7. We are on the Freedom of the Seas now and the big question from the Captain is whether or not the port will be open on Sunday for us.

Our car is parked in front of the Radisson.....or at least it wad when we left. We are more concercned about the devastation once we get back in and what to do if we have no car.

Supposed to be a rough ride back....say a prayer for us

  8. No one can guarantee what your turnaround might be but I will tell you we applied for my Granddaughters passport on 12/22 and received it today.

We renewed our own passports a few months ago and we had them back in 2 1/2 weeks.

BUT ........there is no way I would ever imply you will have the same experience....only relaying our experience.

  9. Do NOT try to go to the port until 10:30 or later. They will NOT even let you wait in line......you will be turned around and told to come back later. Until all passengers from the previous cruise are gone no one is allowed in.

This is the one port we much prefer to park at the terminal. While a lot of your hotel chains are located at the airport....that is 10 miles away. Most times your shuttle will be great going to the ship....but it's usually a pain in the rear when you get off and are waiting on a return shuttle. Not worth the hassle to me.

For some reason the Fascination is one of the slowest ships to debark than any I have been on. Every time we sailed it was anywhere from 9:00 to 9:45 before self assist even began.....so just understand that going in and you won't be so frustrated.

It is a good ship with a great crew.......have fun!!!

  10. Please understand we are not mad at Royal . Disappointed yes but we will get over it . We are old enough to believe that your word is your bond .

Tampa is a beautiful city and we probably would not have had the opportunity to visit this beautiful city if not for Royal Caribbean . I cannot speak enough kind words for the folks at the Marriott Waterside .They truly know the meaning of going the extra mile . Many families spent Tuesday in the lobby there because they had no where to go . The lobby literally looked like The Atlanta airport on a bad day .

Royal is our cruise line of choice and as I stated earlier we will not stop cruising with them . As a matter of fact we have another cruise booked out of Tampa in April ,also a cruise on the Freedom out of Port Canaveral . This will be our retirement cruise and we are taking our family with us .

So to end this let me say that we are OK with whatever Royal or Insure my Trip decides to do . We met a lot of very nice people and refuse to let this leave a bad taste in our mouth . Bon Voyage !

  11. Not sure what any of those have to do with cruise lines having to pay for something beyond their control.

BTW, if RCI said they'd pay for Monday's hotels then they should. Should they have to pay for any costs incurred beyond that for something they had no control over? No. That is what travel insurance is for, or if you so chose, gamble and not buy insurance.

From what I remember reading, RCI apparently said it would pay for Monday and people were given vouchers. Has that been reneged? (I apologize if I missed some of that info posted)

We have sailed with trip insurance from insure my trip on every cruise except the first two ,then we didn't know any better . Never filed a claim ,but with this fiasco on the foggy banks of Tampa we decided to file with the company (soon to be named ) that we had our insurance with . WOW we got about as much help from them as people are getting from Obama Care . It's the old tap dance pay our rates but don't use our insurance !
