I live near the East Coast ports and wonder if any of the cruise lines have last minute cruisers lists. Individuals who they would phone when they have some open cabins shortly before departure. Just phoned Princess and was told they do not maintain such a list.

Really, how would you reasearch this? I do work for living so I don't know how you'd go about that. I don't have a ton of time.

I used to live in Florida, moved to California, kept that great travel agent. We do everything by phone and email. Except for March when I was in Florida and we had lunch together!

We gave up the idea of upgrades because our one and only upgrade was to a cabin over a galley, usually keeping me awake until about midnight (past my bedtime). We now always choose the cabin we want and take no upgrades.

Sometimes you just can't choose the cabin you prefer. We've booked guarantee cabin a couple of times because that was all that was available. The first time we did it, the cabin was great. The second time we did it the cruise line told us they were upgrading us - Hah - the cabin was under the pool. This trip (August, will be our third guarantee, don't know our cain yet.

What I didn't know until the cruise line responded to my complaints about being under the pool was that we could have refused that upgrade. Ya learn something new every day!
