1. I don't understand how anyone can feel demoted from a suite lounge, when they are not staying in a suite! The suite lounge is for suite guests and Pinnacles, and no other C&A categories. If the SL is that important, then those who want entry should book a suite ( easy) , or sail often enough to become Pinnacle .

Sure. I'll get right on that as soon as I earn my first million or win a lottery. Meanwhile for us working stiffs that earned D+ by paying for it one cruise at a time, it's pretty insulting to be basically told that our loyal money isn't good enough anymore and to have many of the golden carrots they dangled in front of us as incentive to earn this "elite" status, such as the CL, "reassigned" and taken away, to be given freely to someone just because they can afford to slam down 30 grand in one shot and may never sail again or to those that have the ability/luxury of cruising 50 weeks of the year. For the rest of us slobs it's kiss off there's no room at the inn because you took too long to get here. Thanks a bunch Royal.

  2. You server should have told you up front that you were gong to be charged. Further you must have been given a receipt to sign.

A few times I've asked for a drink that is not allowed (Didn't know it had two alcohols) and the server tells me up front that I will be charged. I can decide to order something else, or accept the drink. On our recent January cruises on two different ships, our welcome letter noted that voucher drinks not on the list will have a 25% ( maybe 20 - I can't recall) discount during happy hours. I guess not really the point, but did you get the drink at the % discount.

Sorry you had these issues. Seems odd. What ship were you on, and when was the cruise.

    thx

I have never been able to get a "voucher drink" in any venue outside of the DL without paying for it. Lots of "nope don't do those here" or when the drink was delivered, so was the bill eith no forewarning that it would cost and when I paid, definitely NO discount. Drink of choice generally Bailey's on ice or spiced rum and diet cola.

  3. Nope. After being charged we went to guest services to complain. Were told the waiters were correct. After being told of policy sent from Miami, and we advised we were unaware of the policy, they refunded our $. We tested it again at a different bar and again were told no. It was then we were showed the sheet and told some bend it but if caught they get in trouble

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Have had the same problem. Obviously some ships are stricter than others about this. Just frustrating how inconsistent RC is with things like this.

  4. I'd rather they just give me 40% off the Deluxe drink package.

Especially since they seem to think those drinks are worth $12. The 40% discount would be

less than the supposed value of 3 sea pass drinks. Plus I won't be crowding the DL.

    Seems like a win/win.

Not a win if you don't buy the drink package. So again forcing us to buy something we don't want when we've spent tens of thousands already.

    :o

  5. We have 3 cabins on Adventure of the Seas which appear to be over the main dining room on deck 5. Just wondering if that's where the dining room breakfast is served and if so, how early noise will begin. I hope someone can answer.

Breakfast served on Deck 3 on Adventure. You'll be fine. We have been directly under the Windjammer several times and never heard a thing.

  6. Awesome review Andy. I don't usually read blogs but yours is not only informative but entertaining. You have a very fun but mature writing style. Our first ship was Explorer which is Navigator's class sister and her and Adventure remain our favourites. Nice to remember the same "firsts" as you are describing them. Keep up the good work - I'm hooked waiting for your next post. You have a promising future as a travel writer lol.

  7. If anyone has issues with sitting with certain other people, (age, ethnicity, living situations, etc) they are the ones that should be requesting a private table, or shouldn't be cruising in the first place.

We have recently retired and have started cruising - have about 6 booked. My theory is we will cruise till our savings run out.

Hopefully those types of situations will be few and far between for all of us.

    LET'S KEEP ON CRUISING!

You know the math says it's cheaper to cruise then live in a nursing home right? AND with a much better lifestyle. Cruise till you can't cruise no more!!!

  8. Hi all,

Me and my wife are first time cruisers we are sailing on the navigator of the seas in September .

We both have the deluxe drinks package, what I would like to know is will we both have to go to the bar when we want a round of drinks or will I be able to go to the bar with both cards to order our drinks

    Thanks

    Mel

Rules say 2 people 2 cards but in reality usually 1 person 2 cards works as well. Like Paz222 we usually get a couple of "goto" waiters or bartenders then there's no issue.

  9. I am on the ship and it has been an uncomfortable ride today for sure. But folks, nobody onboard has any answers, and neither does anybody not onboard. It is way too early to hang or crucify anyone, and the most important thing is that all 5,000+ of us make it through safely.

What an absolutely ridiculous time to be talking about who's at fault...

    Well said. Keep safe.

  10. Sounds like this was completely avoidable....I wonder if the Captain is going to be replaced. I would seriously question his judgment on this one. Not trying to Monday morning quarterback it, he obviously thought he had some favorable conditions...but it will be interesting to see how Royal Caribbean responds. Hope everyone onboard is safe.

Suggest you take a look at the live radar readings on this storm. There is no way this storm could have been avoided once they were underway and even if they'd known it was going to escalate to this degree and delayed leaving Bayonne the way it's tracking they would have run into it further north which could have been much worse. This is not a green Captain and they don't make these decisions without consulting with the Coast Guard, weather specialists and Royal Caribbean and their first concern would be for the safety of the passengers and the ship and no decision would have been entered into lightly and would have been based on the safest course of action. We've been through a couple of crazy storms off the Carolinas and even watched an amazing medi-vac during one and the skills of the Captain and navigational crew and that of the Coast Guard pilots was something to marvel at. With thousands of lives at risk, there is a lot of responsibility on this Captain's (and his crew's) shoulders so please don't criticize unless you've walked a mile in their shoes. :(

  11.
I just went online, and apparently they are not going ahead with a Park Cafe, but instead putting in a Cupcake operation in the promanade.

Also someone that was aboard last month posted that the AOS will not be adding a Park Cafe. We are aboard for the upcoming crossing, and I'm personally saddened that they are leaving that out. I have enjoyed food from there on other ships.

    Rick
Bad decision about Park Cafe too many "pay for" venues being added to RCIships. Besides I'd rather have a good sandwich or salad from a Park Cafe then an overpriced cupcake
  12. Phew what an awful experience. We arrived around 4:15. Our cab driver told us Royal told him we'd be 2-3 days in San Juan for repairs. However we had heard nothing from Royal. Despite being registered for email, text, and phone calls and having all 3 at our disposal. We stood in 2 lines for 3 hours before being able to board. It was 90 degrees and they gave us no water, food, or information about what was going on. Those who are not on cruise critic had no idea anything was even wrong with the ship. It was a nightmare. People were having medical emergencies due to the heat and there was 1 bathroom. When an employee wearing a Royal name badge walked by the line with a bottle of water and was asked if passengers could get water he told them we could buy it from the local vendors who came out to sell it while we waited in line.

The Captain updated about 45 minutes ago that we will be in port through tomorrow night. Then we will pick up our itinerary. I heard nothing about any onboard credit so not sure about that. This was truly awful customer service on the part of Royal Caribbean. And to add insult to injury there is a letter in our cabin saying no towel animals this week. With two little boys who I talked up towel animals to this is the icing on thr cake. Royal has not delivered any WOW to me to start my vacation. I reserve full judgement based on the rest of the week. But as of now I would not be booking another sailing on Royal. And yes I realize towel animals are a silly thing to be upset about. :)

Just came off AOS and it was the best cruise we ever had - go figure. Talk to your cabin steward though. We found this staff to be the best. They are only doing them on formal nights (noticed alot of these little "cutbacks) but soon as I mentioned how much I loved them, they started to appear. I'm sure your steward will not disappoint your boys. I hope your cruise gets better.

  13. We just got off Adventure on Sunday (3-16). We did notice that the back of the ship was really shaky. We also saw dive teams at the back of the ship at both Antigua and St. Croix. Just thought it was routine maintenance.

We were on a BTB in an aft balcony on 10 the week before you and sometimes the vibration was so violent things were rattling off counters and shelves. Reported to guest services and was told that was normal for the back of the ship?? (How dumb did I look to them? We have always travelled aft and had never felt anything like that) Also saw divers off the back as well at a couple of ports. One night it was like they kept slamming it into reverse with the anchor out. Noticed that every time it started to vibrate too much they would cut back the power unless we were in open water needing to make speed. Guess they were just hoping it would stay together until the end of the season.

  14. Wish we'd known about this before our first cruise - which we just came off of but definately less clothes and more money, double check your cruise account OFTEN as they screw it up constantly, booked tours are disappointing, preplan your port activities and know where/what you want to see and then take public transit or negotatiate a cab fare, much better deal, more fun and more enjoyable-often you get a real "personalized" tour and an insight the "organized" ones won't give you. Ignore the "shopping" deals, they don't exist and the sales reps are rude when you try to collect your "free" stuff. Watch the booze - mega expensive. Be prepared to be treated like you're at a cattle call. But if you can ignore all that annoying stuff, you'll have a great time!
