Soda and More is a good deal if you like the mocktails - I got my money's worth by getting plenty of those 🙂
-
I could be mistaken, but isn't the cabin count about the same as the Royal/Regal, etc? 1780 cabins in the Royal. But so many want to focus on a potential negative.
Royal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Princess_(2013)
Capacity:3,600 passengers
They are clearly getting bigger and bigger.
-
They give this away on some ships to one person who is 1st timer and one person in the gold and ruby club. We meet a man on our last cruise who was upgraded to elite for that cruise.
-
Assuming when PA said there is only 1 other couple that was going on the following cruise is right, then that one other couple is my father-in-law :)
I'll have to get his story when he's back.
-
The price can go up when the sale includes gratuities or has things like sip and sale. We saw the price go up under $200 when they added $400 in credits. So sometimes the OBC can make the difference.

Still waiting for South America
Golden is accounted for on the website and will be around Australia. The Star is doing Hawaii.
Maybe the Grand? It's in LA at start of December then nothing on schedule.
-
I've been on both; for Alaska it's Island easily ---- but the revamp remains to see how much better it is.
-
I didn't know about this ad till this morning when it popped up on reddit linking to this: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2015/02/01/creationist-ken-ham-is-angry-that-carnival-referenced-evolution-during-its-super-bowl-ad/
I then watched it and really liked it - I thought it was effective. And I'm way younger then the average cruiser.
And it's getting more press because it mentions evolution and creationists aren't happy.
Keep in mind Creationism is a very small subset of Christians.

If my traveling companion is a vegetarian would they make her a meal so we could partake in the chef's table or is this just something we shouldn't consider?
Any experiences?
I asked the F&B officers when I was on board a few weeks ago this exact question - they said it is no problem - everything is made ala cart and thus if someone has specific problems / requests they will do everything to accommodate.
-
Keep in mind that unless there's a Flash sale and a lot of cabins remaining unsold by final payment, prices will go up, not down.
This is key - on our cruise coming up there was still empty inventory. Princess sent out an up-sell offer - we already paid more then the flash sale price - my awesome TA said she'd called Princess and see... I doubt it'll ever happen again but we got upgraded from an inside to a balcony when she complained to Princess.
So it can happen - but rare :)

The best thing about the Coral and Island is their built as ships that are the max size for Panama canal.
They are very large ships - but don't have as many passengers as the grand class of ships. So they are a treat to be on - more space per passenger then any of the grand class ships.
-
I've been on the Coral twice, next week will be my first time on the Island :)
There's lots of great places to see the glaciers - so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
-
We spent 2 weeks in Japan last year - every hotel and public restroom that's not a squat toilet has the fancy electronic bidet system.
We liked it so much we bought one for our master bathroom right after we got home. You really can't knock these until you've tried them and you will likely miss them once you do.
And yes anyone that's seeing one for the first time will look very puzzled at it...
-
The turbine is not in the engine room - it's up around deck 14-15 (been a while since I was last on board the coral so I forget the floor number) You can go stand right by it (a wall separates you from it) and see all the grates etc venting it.
The engineers on board would love to do away with those BRTs because they increase drag and weight - thus it's more expensive to move the ship with them. But that's an expensive task and won't happen.
The turbine on the Island and Coral is one reason they are used in Alaska, they also have 2 heavy fuel generators which produces most of the electricity the ship normally runs on. If the two diesel generators can't produce enough power they'll turn on the turbine which is much much more expensive to run but also much cleaner.

We got of the Star last month at the same time as Sammy. He was a whoot! We do hope to run into him again.
-
Thank you for sharing Pam,
This puts a nice bookend on the events that started on that Sea day a year ago on the Coral.
I'm glad we got to meet both you and your sister and hope we'll run into you again on a future cruise.
-
We saw him on the Coral in Jan, I bought his CD. He's got a pretty standard routine with minor variations on current events. It's not overly crass, if it was I wouldn't have bough the CD...
I'd say for a cruise he was pretty good. But I'm not expert on comics :)

Sip and Sail is nice - but you generally have to book way out to get that. We booked on 1st day possible for our Hawaii cruise and a few weeks later it was open for Sip and Sail at no upcharge. That cruise had a few other promotions but every single time I checked (quite often) it kept going up in price not down.
Just note that with the exception of post final payment fire sales many cruises are never cheaper then they are when first offered. There have been exceptions for cruises made unpopular for reasons like Brazil and Zika...
