  1. Must have been a terrible experience for those on board.

I know this is not the roll call for my cruise, but the CC roll call for Oasis of the Seas 26 May 2019 has not been working for the past couple of weeks. NO ONE seems to be able to find the solution. I cannot understand why I can get into new posts via the article about the Epic but when I go to CC for Recent posts of our cruise, there is nothing there.

I have written a few times to the community and the help emails, but nothing progresses......

Wow!  If you can sit on your ocean balcony and smell smoke in a 20 mph apparent wind, then your olfactory senses are better than a bloodhound.  Just saying, with no disrespect.

Any person who is sensitive to smoke can smell it a mile away in a high wind, never mind 20mph. We have often been on a deck 2 above the smoking deck and not been able to use our balcony, especially if your cabin is towards the aft of the ship, and when in port the smoke wafts up pretty high.

I think there should be separate elevators for smokers - totally gross getting into one when a smoker has been partaking and gets into the elevator with his stinking clothes.

  3. Here is my mini car recap of the cruise before I start posting Rome items.

In general every cruise is great. We always enjoy it. We always make the best of any situation even if it’s not the most desirable. I realize in cruising, as in anything in life, there are simply things you cannot control. You can only control how you react to them. So even if there are some negative aspects we will take them in stride.

This cruise, however, there was no need for me to worry about taking anything in stride. This cruise, in my opinion, was one of the best we’ve experienced. The crew on this ship I thought was probably some of the best as a whole we’ve ever encountered. Everyone worked extremely well together and we found any small hiccups that came up was dealt with very quickly and professionally.

I was especially impressed by all the crew you’d run into in cabin corridors, on stairways, or in random common areas. They always took time to say hello and always had a smile. I’ve always found the crew on celebrity to be well polished in this area but this crew seemed to be much more so than ever before. I found myself feeling like I was on my first cruise again where I was impressed at every turn.

The cleanliness of the ship was as impeccable as ever. There was only one or two small areas that I noticed a little bit of residue from salt or dirt. The bathrooms were always spotless.

We definitely enjoyed our Captain. He was a lot of fun. I didn’t do a lot of shows so my experience with Rich was limited but what I did see if him I really liked and I’m glad I finally got to meet him. He’s a great CD. Valentina the activities director was fantastic. She was very lively, extremely social. She really seems to enjoy her job and always had lots of energy. And I’m not just saying that because her father is following this blog!

Although I only found your thread through the one for the Reflection departing May 7 a few days ago, I have thoroughly enjoyed your daily updates, thoughts and insights.

We, too, have found Celebrity crew are always amazingly friendly, the interaction between them and the passengers makes a big difference. We have been on the Silly, Connie and others many times, and we are always surprised that the crew recognize us when we board.

Hope to meet you one day, somewhere, sometime - your outlook on life is something for which we should all strive.

With very good wishes - Melanie

  4. Yesterday Edward was not feeling well during the day. Exhaustion and a perpetual week plus hangover finally caught up with him. He slept while I hit the pool bar in the morning. It was a cool morning so I had on a light sweater but later changed to a polo as the day started to warm up.

For lunch we decided to order room service. Edward just ordered some chicken soup and rice and I ordered a Cesar salad and a turkey club. The room service took an hour to arrive which wasn’t ideal but oh well. The food was very good. The few times we’ve ordered room service I’ve been quite happy with food quality.

Before dinner we went to the Martini Bar per the usual and then saw the production show Elysium. I’ve seen this show plenty of times before but it’s been a couple cruises so I went to see it again. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I think they made some changes since I saw it last. I’m not a broadway critic so I can’t comment on the choreography or the vocal pitch of each singer. All I can say is it appeared the entire cast was enjoying themselves. I loved their voices. The costume design was beautiful. They were all beautiful. And all of them were performing way better than I could ever do.

After the show we went to Ensemble for a glass of wine while we waited for our 8:30 Murano reservations. We made a couple new friends and chatted. Dinner in Murano was great. We started with a cheese plate which I didn’t photograph in time! I love their cheeses. There is only one I do not like. I’m not sure the name but it is a very musty taste and almost reminds me of a corked bottle of wine. There is another one which I had to learn to like but now I’m in love. I’m not too eloquent at describing cheese so pardon my brash words but I’d describe it as tasting like the smell of paint thinner and is extremely soft and “runny” in texture. Very odd I know but it’s a new favorite of mine.

After the cheese had my crab parfait. We then both had the steak Diane. I never like anything on my steaks with the exception of the steak Diane in Murano. I ate every last bite as did Edward. Fantastic job on their steak Diane as always. For those who do not know it’s not on the menu but if you give them a days notice they can prepare it for you.

The runny cheese you describe sound like the perfect brie - I brought one back from France in my carry on bag once and it stunk out the whole plane - the passengers were not very happy with me, but it was totally delicious when I got home!

So true....reminds us of how thankful we should be for being able to travel like this and even for our every day life.

Thank you for sharing that with us. And I hope we'll meet the 2 of you on a cruise on day. I would love to meet someone who has a sense for things like this. Too cute...

    And yes, still reading..... ;)

PS. We'll board the Connie in 2 weeke in Civitavecchia.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Very touching words, fellows, straight to the heart!

The Reflection will be leaving from Civit the same day as the Connie and also at 17:00. We meet up again in Gibraltar (actually, we are leaving Gibraltar early to make place for you) before getting back to Civit on May 18.

  6. 2 interesting aspects of your video:

    1) Our sailing on Silhouette is in 6243, which is 2C, supposedly obstructed, but only to the bottom of the balcony glass. Yours looks similar.

    2) We have never been in a cabin where the bed is by the balcony. It looks like the wardrobe ( closet) is more accessible.

    -----------------------------------------------

Closets have sliding doors so no hassle to open or close. We have been on deck 6 a few times (both on the Silly and Reflection) between 6134 - 6267 and the life boats really do not block your view at all. Mid ship and as low down as possible is better for me (mad motion sickness), but we prefer to have a cabin either towards the fore or aft of the ship as there is less passing traffic. (I make sure I have a plentifull supply of patches.)

Take into account that deck 6 on the port side is above the smoking section of the promenade deck and the smoke wafts up from it - makes it very unpleasant for us non smokers to even have the verandah door open.

Gearing up for our cruise May 7 on the Reflection from Civit to Gibraltar and back.
