I will be going on the Amadeus Silver iii next Sunday. It will be interesting to see if she will be in Cologne next Sunday - this cruise is expected to go down the Rhine, to Rudesheim then along the Main/Danube to Miltenberg/Wertheim, Wurzburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Passau. Hopefully it will go according to schedule.

Hope the water levels lets you enjoy your cruise. My wife and I where to leave tomorrow the 29th but it was canceled until next June with Vantage

  2. We booked a private tour with Alla for $295 a person (2 of us). I booked it last week for our May cruise and the communication with the company has been excellent.

I am also looking at Alla tours. My wife and I are also booked on a May cruise and also from York

May ask what date and line are you going on?

  3. Great feedback. Glad you had a great trip.

What was your favorite thing about Prague?

We did a dinner cruise from 7-10Pm which was very nice. There were several ships that offered them ,but the choice we made on line before we left suited us, the food was good and the weather was great.

The cruise company picked us up at the hotel which was in a good location so we just walked back, it was about a 15 min walk.

  4. I have been reading this message board since Nov.2014 , that's when my river cruise was changed to Aug. because the ship was over booked. There were pros and cons about all the cruise lines, lots of concerns about the river levels and ship swaps and how the companies were dealing with them.

My trip started with an extension in Prague,Bratislava, and Budapest with hotels that were above my expectations before getting on the River Splendor.

My wife and I have been on about 20 ocean cruises, this was our first river cruise, and didn't know what to expect. The service was great and the included tours were well managed.

There was one section of the river where the water was so low that the ships could only travel during day light hours, with fear of hitting a sand bar.

In order to do that the captain said we would have to miss stopping at Passau, because of the arrival time, which turned out to be the right thing to do. Even during daylight hours while on the back of the ship I could see mud from the river bottom being kicked up from the propellers.

We made it all the way to Cologne because of that decision that he made.

I have no complaints of how Vantage handled the arrangements and would travel with them again

  5. I don't think that's correct. I checked the River Splendor specs and it reports the draught (operational) is 1.4m, and the draught (ballast) as 2.1m

We were recently on the River Navigator and her draught was 1.5m (roughly 5 feet). The low spot in the river (between Passau and Regensburg) was running about 6 feet at the time we passed. We (all of us on the cruise) heap barrels of appreciation on our captain for getting us through. Of course, those of us who were in the lower deck rooms did have some "noises" that night as the ship movement kicked up smaller rocks from the bottom while passing.

The draught information I got was off the live ships map. I know nothing about sailing so your information is probably correct.

I have been on several ocean cruises, where it is not a concern, but this is the first river cruise.

    Thanks for you input.

  6. Well if the river water levels keep falling, will Vantage cancel our River Splendor cruise from Budapest to Bonn 8/31/15 ?

I hope the 0.2M draught of River Splendor compared to Viking ships with 1.5M draught makes it possible to travel in the low waters.

From what I have been reading the river, between Passau and Nuremberg is where it is the lowest?

I have been watching the live web cam in Passau and there are ships in and out of there every day.

There is rain in the forecast for Frankfurt next week, but will it help?

We have a post extension in Prague and Bratislava before we get on the ship in Budapest, booked through Vantage. If the water level keeps falling while we are on our way to Budapest we might be staying on the buss.

  7. Our first was the Budapest to Amsterdam with add on days at each end.

It was perfect never felt we were too long on the boat. I would love to do even longer....so nice to settle in to the rhythm and personality of the ship and never have to unpack.

Europe is a great place to start because it is familiar feeling with little/ no culture or climate shock.

    Have fun!

What cruise company and month of the year?

I will be doing Budapest to Amsterdam the end of Aug.with add ons at each end

  8. Oops. Post extension on the Majestic Rivers cruise is

Budapest, Bratislava, Slovakia & Prague, Czech Republic.

Has anyone done the post extension? Do you recommend private guides for any of the places? If so, who? Must see and do activities or sights please.:)

My wife and I are doing the post extension in Aug.through Vantage.

I saw this guide posted on C.C http://www.ninapragueguide.com/

Just thought I would pass it on.

  9. Have been on 6 tours with Vantage and the 7th upcoming on June 2nd - French Waterways. We have been very pleased with Vantage. Not sure I would want to pay to go with Tauck. To us I consider saving some money for another river cruise. Vantage works for us. Willard

    I agree!

After reading these River Boat post on C.C I was starting to feel like a minority choosing Vantage. I think I will feel more comfortable going with Vantage.

  10. We are sailing Avalon - as past land trips with Globus - you get a lifetime discount for all future travel. Thanks for any info - greatly appreciated!

O Darn Bev and I are from Pa. also and booked with Vantage the end of Aug.

and hoping to meet up with someone from Pa.

This will be our first river cruise, and have heard a lot of good things about Vantage.

I guess you get what you pay for, and I'am not hard to please.

  11. Bev and I (Denny) have been on several cruises but, this is our first river cruise.

We will be on the Majestic Rivers of Europe cruise on 11-3-14. I have been checking C.C. for any information on the ports we stop at.

Haven't found anyone else on the boards going on this date.

    Hoping for good weather.

    Fuelscience:

We changed our above trip to 8-30-15. Got a call from Vantage saying they

were overbooked and offered us an upgrade for the change.

Would you make the change on the roll call.

    Anyone else going on 8-30-15?

    Thanks Denny
