  1. Did Grey Goose fall outside of the $9 limit? We are trying to decide about the package for our Med Odyssey cruise' date=' my husband drinks Sapphire or a single malt and now I wonder if those would not be included. Any gin or scotch drinkers out there who know the answer?

Grey Goose was not included on our recent Med. Odyssey, although they said they were thinking of changing (not sure if/when that might happen). Wound up drinking Stoli, which was OK.

  2. We were just on the Viking Homelands and we purchased the silver spirits package and definitely got our money's worth. I wouldn't go on a cruise without it.

I second that! It really depends on how much you drink. My wife and I like a cocktail or 2 before dinner, and most nights had after dinner drinks in the Living Room. During sea day, and afternoons of days with morning tours only, we would have drinks from the Pool Bar. We definitely got our money's worth, and after the bartenders became familiar with us, drinks were "stronger", as they knew you could drink as much as you wanted. Only issue was Grey Goose was not included, but managed with Stoli.

  3. My wife and I have booked a cruise on the Viking Sky for next year (2017). We have been on their river cruises before, but this is the first on their ocean cruise. For this cruise, we are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. On the river cruise, the evening dining was at a fixed time, but I am presuming that it is anytime dining on the ocean cruise - is this correct? Also, can anyone recommend which of their specialty restaurants may be the best for our anniversary dining? Thanks.

My wife and I just celebrated our 25th on the Sea, and chose Manfredi's. Excellent evening.

  4. Greetings

But did they give any pricing info? The bus/train from Livorno to Florence is just under 20 euro per person round trip.

    Good Sailing

Just got back from Med. Odyssey, and there are not "shuttles" to Rome and/or Florence (because of the distance). There were "Rome on your Own" and "Florence on Your Own" optional tours, but you need to book them in advance (we tried to book Rome tour, but was told it was full). There are free shuttles into Citiveccia (Rome port), and Livorno (Florence port).

  5. Hello, My wife and I were on the 'Viking Star' last summer on the Vikings Homeland cruise and loved it!. I can't answer all your questions but I'll try to help with what I can. We didn't sign-up for the silver package (drink package) in that my wife and I are not big drinkers. We found with the included beverages with meals was more than fine for us. The few 'adult beverages' we had at other times were reasonable as to price. The silver package would have been a waste of money for us. We stayed in a Penthouse Jr. Suite and the mini bar was replenished daily. Although I don't recall details of the in-room entertainment (movies), they have an excellent system in place giving notifications regarding upcoming ports and (what I enjoyed most) you could replay the educational talks given by experts onboard (if you wanted to hear again or in our case had to miss the original talk because of scheduled dinner reservations). The public areas were never crowed or what I would consider 'busy' except for immediately prior to leaving the ship for excursions. We spent two weeks on this ship last year, and currently have another cruise planned for this winter, so I highly recommend Viking Ocean cruising. if I can help answer anything else, let me know.

We're booked this October on the Sea in a Jr. Penthouse suite, and was wondering if the seating area could be closed off from the sleeping area if one of us wanted to stay up and read, and the other wanted to sleeP; or is it just one big room?

  6. Jerry,

Thank you for the cruise review and pictures. We took the same Viking Ingvi "Rhine Getaway" cruise from Amsterdam to Basel exactly one week after you did. Unfortunately we didn't get to see or do 10% of what you did. We had a cabin on the lowest level and didn't get any sleep the entire week because of the noise.

How did you manage to get any dinner service? Tip the server 50 euros before each meal? We had several meals where we literally received no food or beverages for two hours and then had our dinnerware snatched away.

I wrote a cruise review three weeks ago but it looks like it is not going to be published.

Just returned from this cruise on the Ingvi, and the dining experience was superb. There is no way you could have had several dinners with no service for 2 hours.
