Agree with SeaHag.  We are booked catty-corner underneath your cabin & feel safe

from deck noise, since there are cabins above us.

We also Don't connect with another cabin.  I purposely book cabins that Don't connect.

I am aware of the connecting rooms.  Our friends are in that cabin.  The doors are locked anyway, the room steward has to unlock those doors.  I am curious if there is noise from the sea walk..

Since we're on the topic of Specialty Dining, did anyone else see the new revamped menu for Sabatinis on the Discovery Princess? The Sabatini DR as shown on the Princess.com site (Ships, Discovery) itself looks like the remains of the Curtis Stone restaurant, Share, that we saw on the Emerald, which is quite a change from the Sabatini's that many of us remember. Share is not listed for the Discovery, no loss as we're concerned. Not only the DR has been stripped down, but the menu also has gotten quite a haircut. Choices now read like a neighborhood pizza store: Eggplant Parm, Veal Marsala, Pork Tenderloin, etc.

On one hand, the old, original Sabatini's was way too much food, then they pared down the menu a bit but left the specialty items. Now the specialty items appear to left the menu as well. A separate beverage menu lists a few bottles of wine and some mixed drinks.

No menu is posted for the Crown.

Of course, none of this really matters at this point anyway, but it may be a sign of things to come if and when we ever do get to return to cruising.

Thank you for sharing the new menu.  You are right a lot less food.

  3. The Coral and the Island both have bump out cabins. They are not the largest balconies. The larger balconies on the Caribe deck. The exception would be C622 which is a corner balcony and C637. I always try to get a bump out cabin when I cruise on the Coral.

I wanted to say is I always try to get a bump out cabin mid-ship on Caribe deck when I cruise on the Coral. I have not been on the island since changes were made to add additional cabins in the back of the ship.

  4. Senior moment here. :).

Which ship has the bump out balcony staterooms?

And is the balcony larger than the regular balcony?

    Thanks.

  5. Can you cancel a cruise after final payment due to a medical condition that can be verified by documentation? Would there still be some penalty?

    Thanks.

If you have a doctors stating that you cannot travel due to an illness. The reason I know this, is because it happened to my girlfriends husband. They had already made the final payment. Double check with you TA or Princess in case the rules have changed this year.

  6. Hey I've been reading heaps of posts about future cruise deposits, trying to find confirmation of what I was told by the person in the future cruise office on Golden Princess.

I told him I would be cruising with my aunty in a couple of years, and I understood that I couldn't buy a FCD for her when I bought mine, but he did tell me that when she went to book into same suite with me, she too would only have to pay the equivalent of $100 FDC.

So.....my problem is that I've read in other posts that any other person travelling without a FDC would have to pay the full deposit. But, as I'm paying for her, I'm trying to find out for sure if what I was told by the staff member is correct......

    Can anyone help please?:)

That is correct. If she is traveling with you and you are sharing a cabin, she only pays $100.00. When my daughters friends travel with her and they share the same cabin, the charge is only $100.00.

  7. We are taking our children and grandchildren on a 10 night Panama Canal cruise next December. My TA says that we can only get tables for 8 in the dining room which would mean that 4 of us would have to sit at a different table which kind of defeats the purpose of taking a family cruise. Has anyone had any experience with taking a large group and how did you handle the dining limitations? We are also in a suite but the others have mini suites. Lastly, on Princess do you have to pay for the excursions when you sign up for them or do you pay when you are on board? This is our second Princess cruise but we did private excursions on or other cruise.

I just finished a cruise where there were twelve of us. In fact there were two tables that have 12. Our waiter just served our table and the other waiter just served the other table. We had no problems with communicating. Your TA should check before making that statement. I have also been on cruises with Princess where there were 10 of us.

  8. I think most of the OP's concerns are the responsibility of the CD and his/her staff. The wine tasting is probably the Maitre D' or Hotel Manager. From what I could see, they aren't a result of Princess policy changes. Another ship or even CD could be a completely different experience.

A few years ago, I was on a T/A on the Crown and several times, the Patter wasn't delivered until the next morning (even after checking at Midnight.) The next day, there were constant PA announcements with corrections and additions. I commented to someone that I thought the CD wasn't doing his job and the person insisted that the CD didn't write or print the Patter. While he didn't, it was done by his staff, was his responsibility and he was the one on the PA. Most of the time, a CD won't affect the enjoyment of your cruise but when they do poor planning or managing, IMHO, they can very much affect your cruise experience.

I agree. The CD can make or break a cruise.

  9. We left home on August 6th on this grand adventure traveling through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Banff, Vancouver, Victoria, Washingnton, Oregon, back to Idaho, and then down to Tahoe, Napa, Yosemite and the Sequoias. We have called the first two thirds of the trip the Smoky National Park trip as every park we went to was hazy with smoke - didn't matter. They were still beautiful and we were having a wonderful time!

Now here we are ready for the icing on the cake with a cruise to Hawaii and Tahiti and meeting so many new people that we have been visiting with for months on CC. Will see some of you tonight at the Doubletree and the rest on board!

PS: Sure wish they had better college football television on the ship. Going to miss watching my Texas A&M Aggies play. BTHObama!

    Gig'em!

    Lanee

What school is BTHObama? Where is it located?

  10. There is no cabin D728 on the Coral. If you mean 726, then yes, there is window-washing equipment next to the balcony, but as you can see in this photo I found online, it's not really in the way:

    CoralPrincess-Ketchikan-IMG_3490.JPG

I meant D726. Thank you so much for the picture.

  11. I spoke to a Supervisor at Princess regarding our flights not showing in the personalizer. She said that when you enter your on air, it is removed from the personalizer but they have it on record. If you book your flights through EZair, it remains visible in the personalizer.

I had her check both bookings and everything is okay. I would call to make sure they have all your flight information..
