  1. Cancel your other plans. It was amazing and I guarantee nothing else will top it.

    Have a great time!!!

Well upon much deliberation I booked a bear trip out of Homer! I called Emerald Air but they were booked for the two full days we will be there. I got reservations through K Bay Air. Trip Advisor gives them great reviews so it sounded good to me. My only worry is that we will be cancelled due to weather. Weather is so unpredictable in Alaska you just don't know. Unfortunately the only day they had available is our 2nd day so no room to reschedule if we get cancelled due to weather. They do offer a 100% refund if there is a weather cancellation. Crossing my fingers on this one that it happens and we get to fly. They fly to the same area as you went to, Hallo Bay in the Katami. I'll report back at the end of August and let you know how it goes!

Reading your review and seeing your pictures was the final push to book this bear trip. Thank you!

  2. Thank you for the great review!

We are going a similar cruise as you in August on board Holland America. We embark in Vancouver and end in Seward. We are then doing a 10 day land tour. We are also going with Major Marines on I think the same trip as you, booked with Toursavor coupon. We are going to Denali and spending 3 days in Homer. I really want to go on a bear trip in Homer but don't think we have time with our other plans. Hubby wants to go Halibut fishing there. Really loved all your pictures!!

  3. We will be staying at the Sheraton Wall Center for 2 nights before our cruise to Alaska. We would like to pick up some small things to take on the cruise with us, drinks, small snacks. Also we are looking for a place where we could pick up some wine to take on board, we are sailing with Holland America. Are there any grocery or convenience stores close by the hotel, within walking distance? I saw a place listed not too far called Sutton wine merchant, not sure if that's adequate for some of our needs.

What is the best way to get to Granville Island to go to the market from our hotel?

I'm assuming taking a cab is the best option to get from the airport to the hotel?

  4. AIP- sounds great! I'm glad he remember us as we sure remembered him. :)

Hopefully you'll luck out and have a sunny day like we had last year. Definitely as him if the Cornelia Marie is in town and he'll take you by there to see it if so. We got some wonderful reflection shots last year of the fishing boats.

  5. I think our tour was a little over 3 hours. He told us he never times the tours really and if we went over on the time it wasn't a big deal to him. You wont regret your time with him. It flew by for us and we were sad when it ended.

Hello AIP! Tell Dake hello from us, I'm sure he'll remember my husband because of his enthusiasm with photography just like Dakes.

  6. We didnt have anything planned when we were in Kodiak last year. Upon chance we found out about Making Memories charters and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was a driving tour in a 6 person van but the other people that previously signed up never came so we were the only ones on the tour. He took us to For Abercrombie, high above Kodiak for an awesome view of the city, to a salmon fish hatchery that normally doesn't give tours but he knew the people so we were able to go, out of the beaten path where he had seen a brown bear print the day before, etc. Too much fun to list and we had the best day of our trip and were sad to leave. In Kodiak you need at least a rental car or a guide or both to get the most out of your time here. There is not too much to do without acres to at least one of these.
