  1. Does anyone know if the Maui brush fires are affecting Kahuli Harbor where the Pride of America is supposed to be in port today and tomorrow ?

Is it affecting the cruisers access to and from the ship ?

I think you will be probably be okay. The fire was centered around Ma'alaea which is about 10 miles to the south of the harbor. It was quite near the highway going between Central Maui and West Maui. So traffic going between the harbor and the Lahaina/Ka'anapali areas was being affected by off and on again road closures. I just looked outside and didn't see any smoke coming from that area so I'm hoping the fire has been contained by now, though the last actual news update I saw was at 6:30 this morning.

If you are planning on going to Haleakala or Hana or, if you will be staying in the Kahului area or visiting Kihei, you will be fine.

  2. You must be reading a completely different dress code than the one I see, and that has been quoted several times on this thread. See bolded part.

    ORV,

If you go to the Oceania Cruises Voyage Collection 2016 - 2017 online catalog https://www.oceaniacruises.com/emags/2016_17_Voyage_Collection_APR/index.html#/146/ on page 145, at the top upper right, it states "For evening dining, elegant casual wear is suggested. We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, or flip flops not be worn at dinner."

The same information is in the Cruise Vacation Guide Official Documents booklet I recently received from Oceania where it states on page 1, "In all evening dining venues, we request that guests adhere to the appropriate country casual dress code. Shorts, casual jeans, t-shirts, athletic footwear or sandals are not permitted in the Grand Dining Room, Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill and Toscana."

Now, if you want to quibble about the term "casual" okay. But, the only jeans I have are regular blue jeans and these would probably be considered as "casual." However, I never personally refer to them as casual jeans. I never say that I am going to put on a pair of casual jeans. I just say that I'm going to put on a pair of jeans. So I stand by my comment that the dress code says no "jeans" at dinner.

Would you please tell me what dress code you see?

  3. I've been reading this thread for a couple of weeks now and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth (which is probably more than it's worth.)

My wife and I will be going on our first Oceania cruise in July and I fully intend to wear a nice pair of slacks when we go to any of the restaurants for dinner. The dress code says no jeans so I will abide by that. But...

If I had the choice of sitting at two different tables where, at the first table there was a man(woman) wearing his $500 Armani trousers but this man was loud, obnoxious, uncouth, monopolized the conversation, talked with his mouth full, and constantly berated the wait staff etc. or, I could sit at a different table where the man(woman) was, mannerly, witty, an interesting conversationalist who was always considerate and polite, but this man was wearing jeans, I know at which table I would rather sit. Even if that meant I would have to sit in the Terrace Cafe.

I understand why Oceania and many other venues have dress codes and, as I said, I will abide by them. But I also think that we (myself included) sometimes are more concerned with how a person looks rather than who they are.

I hope everyone's next trip is a great one.

  4. I ordered a paper brochure about 2 weeks ago, never expecting to get one. Guess what, it came in todays mail. I really like having the brochure to leaf through while enjoying a glass of wine. Best part is it includes all of our scheduled cruises.

    Mary Lou,

I've requested brochures twice through the website page and once via a direct email to Celebrity but have never received anything. Can you tell us your secret. My glass of wine is ready to go!

  5. I hope someone can answer this for me. I'll be going on my first Azamara cruise next month. I'm not a big drinker and certainly not a connoisseur of fine spirits so I will just be going with the included liquors.

I'm assuming I can get a drink like a gin and tonic even though it is not on the included 30 list of cocktails but what about something like a mojito? It doesn't require any special rum and the rest of the ingredients aren't that expensive. So would that be included or would it be an extra charge. Thank you.

  6. I have to second the pineapple vanilla jam from the agricultural school. I am rationing out the last little bit and wishing I had bought more!

I bought vanilla on Moorea from the place Tiki talked about (also bought monoi and tetanus oil there too, which I am also rationing!) and from a farm on Tahaa. Personally, I can't tell the difference. Both make amazing vanilla sugar to put on fruit (fantastic on pineapple) and in baking, and vanilla syrup.

    psyfi,

I had never heard of monoi or tetanus oil before so I had to look them up. I found that monoi comes from Tahitian gardenias which sounds very nice (We have a couple of these plants in our yard and they are very fragrant.) However, when I looked up "tetanus oil" all I could find was that tetanus is a bacteria which causes lockjaw. Is there a tetanus oil that I don't know about? Or, could you have meant Tamanu oil which comes from the Tamanu tree which is native to Tahiti? I found out about this at a site called Natural Skin Care. http://www.naturalskinrepair.com/tamanu-oil.html

  7. Being as you are such a rock star on this forum I had resisted asking for your list of tips because I felt that you must get tired of hearing the same request over and over. But, I am now breaking down and making my own request. If you have time, we would really appreciate your list. Thank you. Also, thanks for all the tips and information you have already posted. satokast@yahoo.com
