  1. And glad to hear the Adventure of the Seas is more on the casual side. I could see on Cunard bringing our fancy pants ... but while floating around in the Caribbean ... not so much.

We are going with "My Time Dining" so hopefully will not be seated at a large table anyway ... hopefully a table for two each evening. We were on a Celebrity ship that had casual dining but w/service and we loved that choice. Still order off a menu w/service ... hoping that "MTD" will be like that? And Johnny Rockets would not be a choice ... and sure do not want to eat buffet food! Nor, live on the sandwiches/pizza ... even though they are yummy!

  2. Cruising in April on Adventure of the Seas, 7 nights from San Juan.

We used to cruise a lot but have been taking other vacations of late (Hawaii, Mexico).

What's the atmosphere on formal nights these days? As this ship is sailing deep southern Caribbean it will be hot/humid. Don't blame DH one bit that he detests putting on a suit/tie while on vacation. And dragging along dress shoes.

Can we wear country club casual to main dining room on formal nights? This is our vacation so why can't we be comfortable and not miss the nice meal in the dining room?

Thanks in advance for your input. :D

  3. Wow, just our luck - while we've cruised so many times in the Caribbean and Europe - here we are about to sail on Monday on Carnival from Long Beach ... and there are crazy high-surf warnings!

Several areas around LA have closed their piers due to damage - and forecasts are for 10-30 foot waves!

Seriously?!! I do NOT want to sail in conditions such as this - can someone please tell me that Carnival will not sail if this is the case? I think I'd have a heart attack in these conditions -

Advise? Will Carnival cancel or divert?

  4. Help! We want to book Anthem ... However can anyone tell me if the seas are really rough in October between Southampton and Bruge -then to Paris?

We live in the states and usually cruise the Caribbean which is generally calm -

Thanks for your replies ... don't want to spend the cruise being sea sick and scared to death!

  5. Hello - not sure if I've chosen the right place to research this question - but here goes ...

Thinking of taking RCCL to Bruges & LaFavre/Paris in October ...

However British hubbie tells me stories of how rough the channel can be ...

Can anyone comment on this? Honesty please ...

    Thanks!

  6. We were on the ship's tour to Goffs Caye ... so I had no worry of missing the ship ... but seriously, even though the tour picked up/dropped off directly from the Valor ... it was still a pretty long ride out there. We were really bummed when they made us head back to the ship. The place was awesome ... and we definitely did not have enough time there.

I don't know that I would do a private tour to this location ... too far and too much hassle ... but that's only MHO ...

  7. I agree ... Goffs was one of the best tours we have ever done in any port anywhere. However, I did feel like it was a long ride from the ship [our tour was from ship/back]! Cannot even imagine having to take the tender into port ... and then another boat to Goffs ... and then back to port ... and tender back again to ship.

However, this tour is not being offered on my next ship ... what to do? We are not sure?!! I already have 2 days at sea on that itinerary ... so we have to find something to do in Belize ...

  8. Ok, the water not being clear would be a real bummer. That's what we live for!

However, that is one thing I LOVE about that excursion ... that we only paid $5pp for a deposit. Therefore, if we happen to get to COZ and it's raining or not a good beach day ... we'll just skip it and lose the deposit ... and do something else.

  9. Great! Thanks for the update. Love seafood ...

We are booked for sure ... and may be the only adults playing on those water toys? !!

Does anyone know of the snorkeling quality there? Recently at Playa Mia we actually had a fair snorkel ... as they have placed artificial reefs in the sea.

I think after paying the taxi, AI fee and the $12pp for the toys ... don't really want to spend another $30 for the Palancar snorkel. Any inputs on this?

We are thinking of heading up to the Money Bar later in the day for a quick snorkel there ... as I think you can snorkel for $0 if you buy drinks on the property? Yes, no - anyone know of this?

    Thanks! :p

  10. Ok, the food sounds great! Guess we'll just have to suck it up if we want to play on the toys! And, we are kids in our mid-40s!! :o

Did anyone have a credit card issue with the down payment? Today I booked Mr. Sanchos through that site recommended here on CC ... called like Beach Tours Cozumel.com or so?

And, was quite surprised to find my credit card company had phoned me today to see if this was a fraudulent charge?!! It was $10 charged via PayPal for the deposit of $5pp ...

  11. Seriously, you have to pay extra to play on the inflatables? I would have never guessed that. As we just (earlier today) booked the AI package, guess I just assumed you get to play on the toys too! Darn! We'll have to see if it's worth $24 to climb a few toys? Probably not!

  12. Old San Juan is a must if you like architecture. There are also Segway tours if you are not up to walking it as it gets quite hot & humid.

The Barardi Rum tour is also interesting ... or depending on how much time you have ... there's always the El Yunque rain forest. There are other historic sites like the fort to explore also.

The closest beaches to the pier are at Condado ... and then Isla Verde after that. However, if you have other beach destinations on your itinerary, I'd skip the beaches in San Juan and do other things. We definitely like the pools in San Juan MUCH more than the beaches!

There are also some very good restaurants in Old San Juan if you want to try local cuisine. We find it to be excellent and always look forward to get our "fix" of puerto rican food! :p

  13. Thanks! We are coming in September ... so hopefully the Old Town won't be quite so crowded?

Also ... the ferry to Cavtat sounds like we'd have a nice view ... it's affordable? How does it compare in price to the taxi or bus?

I really, really want to go swimming in Croatia ... so please confirm that Cavtat is a good choice ... then after that we'll head back to the Old Town and see Dubrovnik ...

    Thanks from Chicago!
