  1. Does anyone have any recent experience with European cruises as far as bring on bottles of liquor?  I've heard it's pretty much unlimited.  However, Carnival's website does not show anything specific about European cruises (Mediterranean).  What about transatlantic cruises coming back from Europe to the United States?

  2. We were able to purchase our cruise with the Cheers package based on the RU1 offer extended by Carnival.  Never bought the drink package before.  I've heard there's some prohibition to using this on the first day if you're sailing out of Galveston.  Does anyone have the details.  If it can't be used on the first day for alcoholic drinks, can non-alcoholic drinks be purchased with it on the first day?

    Thanks for any advice.

  3. Going on the Carnival Freedom in 11 days for our first Carnival Journey Cruise (19th Carnival Cruise).  We are doing a partial transit through the Panama Canal.  I was wondering what time we will start going through the canal and how long it takes before we exit back out?  If anyone has done this cruise, would be interested in your answer and thoughts on the experience.

  4. If the itinerary is what you are after, the Vista is a good ship to take. So book it!!!

We didn't like it as much as other ships, but our views were tainted by the fact we booked a spa cabin not realizing the spa had been shrunk and even the locker rooms were poor in design. Also our originally booked 2 top was changed to a different dining room and part of a 10 top next to the entrance. When we finally got our 2 top, it might as well have been a 6 top we were so close to other 2 tops. Great dining partners though!

That said, we had a great cruise. Loved the Steakhouse, JiJis, Bonsai Sushi, Cucina, Serenity Deck, Alchemy Bar, The Pub (great craft beers on tap, including a good stout/porter so you don't have to drink the US brewed Guiness and stay away from the Boddingtons-not fresh).

We "toured" a couple of regular balconies booked by our "table mates" and a swing through the Havana deck. The regular balconies looked better than the spa balconies and the Havana cabanas were awesome.

We're on the Horizon in January in a Havana balcony and looking forward to it.:D

    What does "top" mean?

  5. We've been on many cruises but I haven't seen those in several years. Since ships are added to the fleet and sometimes taken out of the fleet, my wife wanted something to commemorate her cruises. I had this vest made for her. I actually bought a blank vest online for about $20 and then took it to a local embroidery shop. She loves it, and I can add different ports and cruises as we take them.

  6. Hey guys and gals, I'm a Platinum cruise with Carnival with 18 cruises under my belt and another 14 day Panama trip scheduled in January. However, the wife and I decided to take the plunge on a different cruise line. We have booked the Liberty of the Seas for this next May and have a Panoramic Ocean View room.

I would like to know what differences to expect between Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Please don't flame Carnival, as I love their cruises and will continue cruising with them. However, I do want honest opinions (the good, the bad, and the indifferent) regarding what I should expect.

    I appreciate everyone's time.

  7. My response is "I book early and book cheap". I also explain how a cruise vacation compares financially to other vacations. Usually, folks who don't cruise, don't really know how inexpensive cruising can be. It doesn't have to be honeymoon suites and champagne breakfasts to make a good time. "Toes in the sand and margarita in my hand" is all I need....

  8. This is my "go to" spot when in Cozumel. My son (now 17) has been there at least 6 times. He loves to play on the water inflatables and we love to relax on the beach or get a massage. Prices are reasonable and the service is quick most of the time. It can slow down when really crowded. When it's like that, I just walk up to the bar...

  9. In 2010 I was able to pay for a rear facing balcony on the Carnival Spirit for an Alaska cruise. It took several years to save up enough points, but it was worth the wait. Since that time, we have started using an American Express card to earn travel points for most of our purchases. We still use the Carnival card for booking our cruises and for purchases where they don't take American Express. Since we don't earn as much on the Carnival card, we usually justs get a couple hundred dollars in OBC each time we cruise. The purchases made for a Carnival cruise through a travel agent does qualify for the double points to the extent that the payment goes for a the cruise itself. If you pay a travel agent for air and cruise together, then only the amount transferred to Carnival applies for the double points.

  10. During our Spring Break cruise on the Carnival Sunshine we got the new tote bags that have an insulated area in the bottom for cold (or hot) items. They work good for taking stuff on-shore. However, the insulated area leaked water as the ice began to melt. Not sure if they all leak, but one of three that we took on-shore to Cozumel leaked like a sieve...

  11. If I zip-tie my luggage and they confiscate something, will it be returned when we disembark, or is it gone for good? I like to carry a pocket knife, and I know they say no "weapons".... so I'm wondering if I put a pocket knife in my checked bags and they consider it a weapon, will they confiscate it and return it later, or will I lose it?

I always carry a pocket knife. On each cruise, I just put it in my shaving kit on my checked luggage and then get it when I get my luggage. Just make sure not to carry your pocket knife off the boat when you are in ports. They will take it when you come back on the boat and they don't save it for you. You will never see it again.;)

  12. In order to use my airline points to pay for our flights, we are flying into Miami for our cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale on April 5, 2010. We will be flying back out of Ft. Lauderdale to come home.

We are flying into Miami on April 4th (1 day early), and we are staying at the Hampton Inn in Ft. Lauderdale.

Can anyone tell me the least expensive way for the 3 of us (me, DW, & DS). to get from Miami International Airport to the hotel?
