  1. I think I will ask for table for two also. I'm more introverted and shy and not good with small talk with people I don't know. So I think having a big table would be awkward for me. Jenny, I bet that was something sitting at a huge table and being the only one. LOL

  2. I'm booked on the Royal going to Alaska in July. I'm also going solo. It's good to read others are out there doing it and having good time. This will be my 5th cruise but first one solo. I have been to Alaska a few times because I love it so much but going alone has me so nervous. I selected Anytime Dining because I too was concerned about having to explain myself to others about why I'm alone. Any time I travel by myself the first thing people ask is who I'm going with. You would think I would have developed a thicker skin by now. I would love a travel buddy at times but everybody has there own life and can't always afford it.

Tracie, do you have your own blog? I see you are from NC ! Me too !

  3. I’m not happy at all ! I called Carnival yesterday and was told San Juan port had just opened yesterday for business , The rep seemed to think it would still be an Eastern itinerary and that they were having to find replacement for St Thomas, All Carnival ships in Nov before and after Nov 18 were updated to do Eastern with different ports, why did they put us on a Western Itinerary ?? Makes no sense whatsoever ,

  4. Oh i know. The fact they have updated itineraries AFTER our date is what doesn't make sense. It's not like they haven't gotten that far in updates yet. My Dad informed me he is calling our Travel Agent. So hopefully they can get an update for us. I will post if i hear anything.

  5. I am sure a lot of our fellow cruisers on this voyage are curious as well. You may notice, the Carnival posting has Magic sailings before and after the November 18 voyage. I also noticed that cruise departures from San Juan are now going to happen. I wonder if they are awaiting repair results from St. Thomas and other on-going cleanup work in San Juan before they commit to a firm schedule.

Yes, i did notice that sailings before and after my week have been updated. Another curious reason why they have not posted update for Nov 18. My Dad called Carnival and was told they didn't have an answer for him either:o. Still working it out i guess

  6. Wonder why Carnival is taking so long to update my itinerary for Nov 18th. Looks like all dates in Nov and even some in Dec have been updated for her except for Nob 18th. This will be my first Eastern Caribbean Cruise. Was really looking forward to San Juan and St Thomas but understand those are undoubtedly out at this point.

  7. NCTribeFan,

Since you have sailed solo from Charleston a few times- have you noticed if those cruises ever have no single supplement fee? I am looking at going solo but it seems it is so much more out of Charkeston versus Florida. Then again I could drive versus fly so that helps even it out a little. Would like to go in Fall. Just wondering if Carnival has specials from your experience?

  8. Hi,

I just wanted to chime in since i feel i might can relate to your situation some. I too became a widow at a young age. I was only 41yrs old. This July will be 2 yrs.. I am also wanting to try cruising solo. Can't seem to find a friend or family member that can or wants to go with me. I cruised Alaska twice with my late husband so I am a little familiar with the process. Never cruised Bahamas or Caribbean though. I booked myself a 7 day western caribbean cruise but now am having second thoughts about flying down to Fl and then take a 7 day by myself. Thinking of switching to a shorter 5 day out of either Charleston or Jacksonville. Much less costly and closer to home. I can drive to the ports. If i really enjoy i may book a 7 day in the future. It is scary going out on your own. I have never taken a trip all by myself so that just adds to it. I love to travel though. For me I think a 5 day is probably the way to go. Good luck with whatever you decide :-)

  9. I decided to go with Carnival for my first solo to Caribbean . Now I'm thinking about Alaska next year. I would like some input on what a reasonable cabin rate I can expect. I've been looking at NCL southbound in May on the Sun. Interior cabin is $1300? Would rather have window but trying to keep cost down. Have cruised AK twice before and know window nice but in reality u spend 99% of time up I on deck to see scenery. Is $1300 good rate? Hoping there will be price drop. Also , when does Carnival usually put out their itinerary for Alaska?

    Thanks

  10. Hey,

I booked an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Ruby and thought I told agent I wanted midship. Got confirmation and was given E215 forward . I am trying to get that moved closer to midship but wanted to ask if a lot of motion is felt that far forward from those that have had cabins up there. I am booked for Dec 6 if time of year makes a difference

    Thanks in advance

  11. Exactly. They all see to be on higher decks toward the front of the ship. Might be better for me to book ocean view and just pay the extra $$. I'm thinking about Alaska for next year and I don't believe any of the studio cabins are on those ships anyway. I am considering the Caribbean for this year though and thought about the studios.
