  1. Instead of folding a towel animal, perhaps he could fold an origami animal like the crane, to hand out. It's fairly easy and can come in different sizes and colors. You could also take the opportunity to read him a great children's book called 1000 Cranes. Then the book could be left in the ships library for another child to find or he could give it to another child he met in the kids club.

  2. One time when we were at Labadee we came into contact with fire coral, which grows prolifically there. It caused a sever burning rash and the medical team sprayed the affected area with balsamic vinegar. That took care of it pretty fast.

Also, the rash on the ankles that someone posted pictures of, looks a lot like what my husband used to get. We finally figured out that it was caused by walking too hard in extreme heat and not drinking enough water to keep hydrated. Now I just keep after him to drink a lot and we take cool down breaks and he isn't bothered by it any more.

  3. Wash and fold is that you will receive a bag to fill with your laundry to be washed and folded. No ironing or dry cleaning. We've never tried it so can't tell you how good it is.

Also, once you are on board, all you have to do is ask any cashier to print our a list of coupons and they will do it on a cash register receipt.

  4. So that's debark, pay for a cab, pay to do laundry, pay for a hotel, embark a virtually identical ship.... Or just pay for laundry on board and do a back-to-back.

I'm with you, I'd just get a bag of laundry done while on the ship and then you wouldn't need to mess with it later. Your idea of a B to B on sister ships sounds like fun. Keep a list of the things you like on each ship and compare when you get home. Hope you have a good time.

  5. If I were you I would look for something before you get on board because they really don't carry anything like you described and even if they did, you would pay a great deal more for it. Look in a luggage store ir the purse department of a department store. or if you know someone who is crafty, they could make something for you. Good luck.

  6. When we took our niece and nephew on a cruise a couple years back, we knew that their dad wouldn't sign the papers so my sister wrote a letter saying that we had permission to take them out of the country on a cruise and than listed the countries we would be visiting. The most important part of the letter stated that we had permission to seek medical care if needed. Then she had it motorized. We had no problems gating them on board.

My suggestion is to look at Royals web site about minors traveling with yo carefully and if you still have I any questions, call them.

  7. I had a server at a restaurant (here on land) tell me the other night, after our dinner, that she prefers tips in cash because they take a cut when you put it on your credit card.

I ignored it. She mentioned it again after she brought my card out. I said "I heard you the first time, but I don't have any cash AND I believe the 'cut' you are referring to is that they report your tips as earned income for your taxes."

"Yeah, that SUCKS so bad" she replied.

I left it alone. She is young and stupid and probably broke, but I wanted to slap her upside her head. Seriously, kid. Pay your taxes. You need to shut your pie hole before your next customer is the wrong person and you have to find a new job or worse.

Here's how the tipping thing works when you charge tips to your room account. RCCI guarantees each employee a certain amount of money per pay period...however they sign a contract that says they will be paid a lower amount with the rest to be made up by their tips. If they don't get enough tips to reach the guaranteed amout, the cruise line adds the needed amount. If they do reach the contracted amount, they still get to keep any additional tips they recieve.

When you tip with cash, there's no way for the company to keep track of it and it goes unreported. That way if they don't report it, that amount becomes tax free money and the cruise line still has to make up any short fall. Is there any wonder why they automatically charge your account each day now? This should help keep the crew members from "begging" for tips in cash in the future.

  8. we knew that my husband's brother and his eife would be sailing in the same cabin a couple weeks later and we taped a note to the bottom of the drawer in the night stand. It was still there when they looked.

We found a pair of lime green, platform flip flops that had never been worn. Nothing more interesting.

Found a bank envelope with two thousand dollars on the floor of the casino the first night of a cruise. Turned it in to the customer service desk. Hope the owner got it back. Wouldn't that just ruin your cruise?

  9. *sigh* She's going to be really disappointed when she gets off the ship in Falmouth rather than Ocho Rios. :(

That was what I was thinking but I just checked the web site and these are the ports of call.

    Ports of Call:

Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Labadee, Haiti; Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Hope that's where it actually stops because if it doesn't, she's really going to be pissed off and the saga will continue. Can't wait to hear how this turns out.

  10. ....I got carried on board on the shoulders of the 1st officer......too bad you missed that perk....

OMG, now I have to dig out the windex to clean off my monitor screen. I guess I missed that perk too.

We have sailed out of Port Canaveral more than 50 times and we have never seen anyone being allowed to use the center doors to enter the terminal. This will be interesting when we go there in 3 weeks.

As far as people who are not in a suite or D+ getting to take advantage of your status to check in, I don't feel that should be allowed. I have seen cases where one person was D+ and they drug their whole group of 30 - 35 people through the check in line, which ment that those who have actually earned this perk had to wait a lot longer to check in. I'm not talking 5 minutes. It seemed that these inexperianced cruisers didn't have any of their paperwork straight, and kept having to dig in luggage for IDs, Passports, set sail, etc. We wound up switching to the regular line because it was moving faster. So no, don't invite your friends and family to join you for a perk they haven't earned, unless they are traveling in the same cabin as you. Just my opionion.
