  1. We leave the house around 10:30-11:00 and it is a 25min drive to the port. Drop off our bags at early drop off then get dropped off at the Market St. area.

We will walk the Market and head to the shuttle tent. approx 10-15min there and we are off to the terminal and the party begins.

Occasionally things happen and we may be delayed due to Customs. but never puts a damper on things.

Sailing on the Fantasy again on Sept 4 and Dec 7... counting days

  2. All diesel ships produce black smoke. it may have been carbon buildup in the exhaust unless it was while the ship is at sea and pushes the speed. Several different engine, motors, pumps and generator systems are vented through the stacks.

  3. I also own my own business and love cruising to be able to get a day off every so often.

But the wifi connection on Carnival is dismal to say the least.

I am going so far as to getting a Sat phone for contact with the business when they open and close. After this years ice storms and power outages everywhere, it is also a back up system.

Make contact a couple times a day and then enjoy the vacation.

Out to Sea, try owning your own business. It is on your mind 24/7. You can have the best employees in the world, but you always want reassurance things are going smoothly.

  4. There are 3 Satellite providers, but only 2 adequately cover the US and Carri bean.

I was looking hard at Globalstar to the point of going to Wests Marine to buy one, but they weren't in stock and had to be ordered. That gave me think time to back off for now.

I pay all of the bills, but am trying to keep the long term costs down. I thought of the prepaid sat cards to use only when I need it. The phone costs are no more that a new iPhone

I use Verizon and have International calling. Haven't tried it for fear of getting raped once I do connect and everything on my phone updates.

I can't get Verizon to give me sample pricing for the charges.

Has anyone used Verizon while on the cruise and how much were the charges?

    Thanks

  5. OK, new question.

Sailed the Carnival Fantasy with a friend who is a hard core Craps Player.

He got me betting $6 Action ($3 each craps). We didn't do it all the time and made decent money at it. And as usual, I gave it back and then some.

    Is this a sucker bet?

  6. Friday the 13th huh, The wife and I got married on Friday the 13th, 34 years ago.. maybe that says something for longevity of marriages..

Back on Topic.. My first cruise (Carnival Valor), we attended friends renewing their wedding vows. It was a nice ceremony. Honestly, I do not recall alot of the cruise as I spent most of my time paying attention to my 18mo grandson.

Have a great time if you decide to renew vows at sea!

  7. Every cruise I get the 120min package and every cruise I wind up giving up most of the minutes due to poor connections to the point of being frustrated. I may get one or 2 messages through during a 5 day cruise.

I am even considering getting a Satellite phone to be able to check on my small business back home.

I also have considered the $1.99 per min from the cabin, but most of the time, the handset cord is stretched out to the point the connector doesn't work half the time unless you hold it in place at the phone. You will see when you call Room Service or Guest Services.

On my wife's first cruise a few years ago, she called me collect form Belize. The 15 second phone call was $153.

Sat phone is looking better all the time....

  8. I'm not sure if this hotel has been addressed before because there are so many posts to read, but......

what can anyone tell me about the North Charleston Inn?

Is it in an ok area to leave my car for the week while we cruise on the Fantasy?

    Thank you!

It is along Hotel Row with several other chain hotels. It should be ok.

It is also across from Tanger Outlets.

  9. Do you have a favorite time of year to sail?

Being from NY, we have always liked late fall and early spring, to extend the nicer seasons, or shorten the harsher ones, I guess. Last year we tried a February "season", and did a cruise, a week off, then another cruise. Really made winter short for us! This year we are trying January. What is your favorite time to cruise?

    Yes to all.

A bad day on a cruise beats any good day working.

We normally do twice a year May and Sept. But I like the fact that we can just jump on the Fantasy being from Charleston anytime and that makes it easier to getaway from everything.

  10. I keep my deep freeze stocked with a few at all times.

I do find it easier to buy them on the ship than at the store in Nassau and having to pack mule them back to the ship along with all the other treasures the wife gets at the Alley. ( I have leg problems)

The price is not that much more expensive on the ship compared to the store.

  11. I just got back from sailing on the Carnival Fantasy and have a question.

I was rolling at the straight out position and have a coule of non players come up and start asking questions. I ignored them as I was rolling, so they began directing questions to the dealer and he was answering back. The conversation was going on in front and across my throw area.

I found it breaking my concentration and very frustrating. I seven'd out and took my chips to the other end of the table to play.

My question is should I have said something or is this just part of play?

    TIA.

  12. We got back from a 4 day cruise on the Carnival Fascination. Had a great time on the Craps table with a 18-20min roll going. I made alot of folks some money just taking my time and not letting the dealers rush my throws. Of course, I don't bet on myself as I seem to Seven out when I get to adding bets.

I was told that long runs throwing was not common on cruise ships.

    Is this true?
