  1. If it were me and we're talking Florida, I would just add a land vaca in the middle. I think most TA's would consider waiving the cancellation fee this time if you are a regular customer. If you are not, they likely would stick to their policy.

I don't like TA cancellation charges either, but the benefits I get from booking with them far outweigh any possible cancellation charges in the future. I get additional perks and often extra OBC (which is refundable BTW), as well as a loyalty bonus when I book the next time. I often (not always) get a lower price for the cabin through a group rate booking. I also have a person to call if problems crop up. If anyone has a great TA which adds those extras and doesn't charge a cancellation fee I would love to have their name (and I know it can't be posted here, but would be interested to hear if anyone has one like that)

  2. They will "make" a mattress topper by putting several thick blankets underneath your sheets. Another option that we have done is to pack a cheap mattress pad (brand new so it is compressed). We just leave it in the room when we disembark. 15 bucks or so for a better/softer mattress

  3. The Oceanic, Home Lines, in summer of 1982. Sailed from NYC to Bermuda and Nassau. Was 19 at the time. My sister (18) and I had a separate room from my parents and we felt so grown up. I remember the room attendants laying out my nightgown (in a female shape) on the bed at turndown service. Had a boyfriend that insisted on calling ship to shore several times during the week. Ran up an enormous bill! Hooked on cruising from that voyage on!!

  4. My family and I (2 teenagers and DH) have taken 3 cruises over the past few years...two with celebrity and one with RC. They MUCH preferred celebrity so I'm sure you will be quite happy with your choice. Not everyone wants the same amenities. My kids preferred the dining, the corny contests/game shows and kitchen tours. Enjoy!!

  5. Chicago Paul, thank you so much for the AMAZING blog!! My family and I are relatively new to cruising (only 4 cruises under my belt) but I cannot get enough of your review. I looked back and read the last 5 blogs you posted as well. Wonderful writing style and great pics! Thanks to your wonderful partner for sharing you and your vacation with us. Safe travels!!

  6. We just returned from our cruise on the summit 8/13 to 8/20 We knew we wanted to eat at qsine and did not book before boarding. When we boarded we were immediately asked if we were interested in eating there the first evening by a rep from the restaurant. They were offering 20 percent off. I said I was interested only in eating there on the last night of the cruise (Saturday evening). They asked why and I said it was a special date (anniversary and birthday in the family). They immediately offered us 20 perfect off for all 6 of us at the time we wanted in Saturday evening. Very happy.

  7. My apologies if this has been addressed before. I did a search and could not find the answer I am looking for. My family and I are sailing together and have three separate cabins. In the interest of saving money I would like to purchase 6 vouchers for specialty dining to save money on the per person cost. If you pre purchase 6 dinners and receive the discount, can they be shared by the 6 adults on the cruise (1 dinner per person)? I realize if we book specialty dining once we get on board, we will probably receive a discount but we all had our heart set on dining at one of the specialty locations on the last night of the cruise and would love to pre pay and be able to make our reservation for that specific night. We are not interested in eating in Qsine on the first night of the cruise when they need people to fill the restaurant. In case it matters, all three cabins were booked and paid for by one party on one reservation. Thank you in advance!

  8. Hi.

Have not cruised in a couple of years (DH not so fond of cruising but we convinced him to go again!!!) so this is my first post in a long time.

I am looking for MDR menus for Celebrity Summit and copies of the dailies for the same.

Does anyone have recent copies to share?

    Much appreciated!

I did a search but couldn't find anything recent.

    Thanks!!

    mary
