  1. We are on the Splendor Mex. Riviera cruise leaving Oct 3rd from Long Beach. Does anybody know if either of the main dining rooms are open for lunch on Embarkation day?

Last time we sailed on NCL, and it was a bit of a secret, but one of the main dining rooms was open for lunch on Embarkation Day and it was nice to avoid the buffet.

On our Splendor cruise, embarkation day lunch was only served in the Lido buffet area -- it was great --

  2. My wife and I will be on the Splendor in January, we have a balcony spa cabin and wanted to know if it is really worth the few extra bucks. Also, Black Pearl versus Gold Pearl Dinning Room, any thoghts? Thanks!

If you plan to use the thermal suite and thalassotherapy pool, it's definitely worth it -- just know that the balconies on the uppermost level are NOT all that private, since people on the open deck above can look down and see you on your balcony.

Also, the Black Pearl and Gold Pearl are different only slightly in decor — they're both equally gaudy — and you are ASSIGNED your dining room based on the physical location of your stateroom.

  3. Does anyone have anymore Splendor information? December is a long way off (wish I was going sooner) and I hope to hear more about this wonderful ship.

I wrote a detailed review about our Splendor cruise -- you can reach it at the link in my signature block as well as a link to 314 photos of the Splendor.

    Have a great trip!

My Boyfriend and I will also be on the Splendor 10/10 for my birthday. This is only our 2nd cruise but we went once and were hooked.

We had a great time aboard Splendor even though we had to deal with the threat of Hurricane Jemina --

  5. Thank you! Love, love, love your pictures! I can't get over how large the Splendor is. How many Serenity adult areas are there?

There is one Serenity Deck area -- on the back of the ship, both sides of the ship. The pool and hot tubs in the Lido Liner area on the aft of deck 9 are adults only, but not a "Serenity" deck.

  6. Does look a little boring back there....I wonder if they miss the retractable roof feature on these ships. We were on the Victory and Destiny during a bout of nasty weather and that roof over the aft pool and whirlpool was really the only thing that made any of the whirlpools and pools usable. The mid pools and whirlpools were open to the elements and it was windy and pouring rain. Inside the aft covered portion it was nice.

Actually, the Lido Liner Bar and Pool on the aft of the ship was just fantastic -- the photo doesn't show what it's like when all of the lounge chairs are set out -- the environment is very cool, mellow, adult. Back there was also the Deli and the Tandoori Grill and a great little bar, so everything you needed was just a few steps away. One of Splendor's best features for sure!

We didn't hit any bad weather even though we were avoiding Hurricane Jemina on our voyage -- but the main pool in the center of the lido deck has the retractable roof.

  7. My favorite things about Splendor were the Serenity Deck, the Lido Liner Pool area, the gym and how comfy the bed was. The steakhouse was so good, we ate there twice. The Tandoori Grill and Deli were my favorite choices for lunch.
