Sure, 7 night cruise Barcelona allure of the seas and another is 7 night Greek Isles Rhapsody of seas.  We're flexible as to where we go, but would love Italy and/or Greece.  I do like to spend time in my room and balcony.  Would love a non-dated ship, but the entertainment isn't so important.

I believe you've answered your own question...if you like spending time in the cabin and balcony go with a GS or above. The cabins are very comfortable and the balcony is your very own ocean front.

  2. Would it be more fair if cruise ship tipping mirrored restaurants where the tip is tied to the price of the meal? Set it at a fixed rate of the total base fare and be done with it. Would you go for this setup?

Tips are already adjusted for the crew and if you feel it is wrong for someone in a suite to only pay a few dollars more in tips than someone in an interior then it only makes perfect sense to go for the bargain and get a suite, you know spend $5,000 for the cabin versus $1,000...what a deal!

  3. Why would you even think Diamonds should board before Suite Guests?

Personally, I believe the ongoing points system should be rated on $ spent for cabin, any dollars spent onboard (Speciality Dining, Casino, Spa, Ships Tours, Park West) and $ spent on Royal Excursions. Set a yearly minimum and if not reached, drop peoples points and Status back each year.

Milwaukee Eight...you are way off base with your thinking and it is a good thing you aren't driving the boat. Everyone can't afford the luxury to pay for a cruise and just keep spending unlimited funds on-board. Points are awarded for sea days 1 for 1 except for suite guests who do receive 2 for 1 but how many suites are on your typical ship and how many interior, ocean view, balconies; 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 to 1? Just as in flying, your first class passengers receive a few more perks than coach and an extra point to suites is no big deal.

At this point in my sailing career points don't much matter to me however, I truly believe and so do many others that points are rewarded for sail days and not money spent on-board (not everybody has bottomless pockets). Who buys art on a ship anyway?

  4. Is your wife still talking to you after calling her a “Emotional Support Animal”?

I think she would be talking to me for sure if she cruised free!! In the real sense of the word she is an animal but I never said she was an animal...just my emotional support.

You know the people who bring their pets on a cruise don't care what others say or do. However, Royal would care if folks started voicing their opinions with their pocketbooks and stopped taking cruises because of FAKE emotional support animals; aka PETS.

  5. Folks haven't any problem telling me I can't smoke my emotional cigar anywhere I want but let the snowflake next to me bring a ball of fur in a purse and that's o.k.? I even have a doctors certificate stating I NEED MY CIGARS to calm my nerves; what about my emotional support? I feel totally discriminated against!

  6. You have approximately 90 seconds to evacuate a plane in an emergency; granted you most likely will have more time to abandon a ship (hopefully) but does anyone want someones supposedly emotional support animal in their way when it comes time to evacuate.

Wonder if they ever do dog overboard drills? Keep Pets (not true service dogs) off the ship.

We do have choices and if we start choosing with our wallets things will change.

  7. From personal experience with the insurance provided through USAA I found it to be a simple process. I would suggest to the poster to keep names of whom you spoke with and if possible talk to the same agent. If he or she cannot answer your questions bump it up to someone who can but again get names. It does help if there is a problem down the road.

The best thing you can do in the interim is read the policy you purchased which will have answers to a lot of your questions.

If you have the option of either cruise certificates or cash refund take the refund that way you can use the money any way you see fit. Certificates are issued in the names of the passengers and only good for their fares at a later date.

  8. If even one more ship from any cruise line were to come to Baltimore the port would definitely need an upgrade... it only has room for one mid-sized ship at a time and the whole boarding process is very inefficient... and don't even mention the parking...

I and numerous others seem to find Baltimore one of the easiest ports for the boarding process.

  9. Not my experience. We have watched cars "disappearing" into the tunnel while at the 8:00 dinner seating. Katherine

Having sailed the Grandeur a few times it takes approximately 8 hours to reach the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Leaving at 4:00 P.M. puts you there around midnight. Coming back into the bay is around 8:00 P.M. though.

  10. Does your cat identify as a dog?

Nope, he knows he is the biggest and baddest cat around. Most folks tend to keep their dogs at a safe distance and walk on the other side of the street when I take him out. For that matter most people too, with or without a dog.

  11. Those that spend the most money with Royal should be rewarded at a higher rate than those that do not. Don't forget the money we spend on all things Royal (Specialty Dinning, Chefs Table, Casino, Drink Packages, Galley tour and brunch, all access tours, cabanas, Royal Excursions, Park West Art and so on. ) I see this coming. Almost everything I have predicted seems to be coming true.

If you were Royal, who would you think they should perk up. Those spending it now or those who have spent far less in the past.

I beg to differ with your logic as those in suites have already spent more money than non suites before they even set foot on the ship. I'd also be willing to bet that if true numbers were to come out, suites end up spending more than others on-board to begin with; so they would end up with even more points. However, on a different note...since your predictions are coming true how about letting me in on the winning Powerball numbers.

  12. I agree. We asked Royal to do something about the cabin hogs. They did, we wished they would have applied it do JS as well.

Room Service Charge does not affect us.

Campaigning for Status Levels set by dollars spent. Includes fares (cabins), speciality dinning, Chefs Table, Spa Treatments, wine tasting, beer tasting, ship tours, galley lunches, casino, and Royal Excursions.

Status levels by dollars spent?....I priced a 10 day cruise for 2 for an interior cabin $2,059 and for a grand suite cabin $7,588. Someone needs to spend a lot of money ($5,529 to be exact) to make up that difference.

Status level is set by sea days and one of the few perks for suites is double points (which they more than paid for). Taking the figures above an individual in an interior cabin could take 3 1/2 cruises compared to the 1 cruise of someone in a suite. Then you get 35 days at sea compared to 10 receiving 35 points versus 20 points for the suite. And everyone spends on-board whether in an interior or suite.

  13. I'm not one for interior cabins so for me hands down the aft Junior Suite for a 12 day cruise. Great views, large balcony, full bath and of course a much larger cabin. You can always Youtube to compare the cabins or or do a Google search for interior and Junior Suites. You should be able to find lots of pictures and videos. Good luck.

  14. currently you can get Z inside half the price of a balcony saving nearly £700+ for 2 week cruise out of Southhampton.

Could do a back to back month at sea for the price of a balcony!

Balcony is only any good for keeping open at night for fresh air. Sitting out there gets boring really fast and i end up sitting at the sky bar or in the Jacuzzi making full use of the drinks package.

Balcony is more useful for the anti social cruisers me thinks..

Still trying to work out why you would pay for a suite on a cruise. Space is just space and you can only occupy so much at any one time. If i want some alone time i go to the sauna or steam room and then relax on a lounger on a hidden part of the ship with a beer and maybe my tablet.. So many places like this on these boats if you look for them.

For me value is key. If its a bit more then ill go for it but if i can buy a Rolex with the savings of booking a Z inside then no way ill spend that much on a room...

Wow: never thought of ourselves as anti-social because we cruise in Grand Suites. It has nothing to do with being anti-social. It has to do with cabin space afforded us with the suite.

We go to shows and enjoy the amenities of the ship but maybe you are correct with us being anti-social as we've found that a lot of people with drink packages onboard feel as though they have to get their monies worth and end up becoming obnoxious drunks. It's so nice to get away from all that and having a large cabin with a nice large balcony is worth every penny to us.

To the original poster about which cabin...get whatever cabin you feel comfortable spending your money on. Having sailed in oceanviews, balconies, junior suites and grands we have found the grands to be the cabins of choice.

P.S. We normally sail no less than 8 day cruises with averages being 10 days.

  15. I would rather be on a ship with dogs than kids...but to each their own right.

For some people, their dogs are like kids to them or maybe the only companion they have in life.

Based on my experience I have seen with dogs on board, they are much quieter, well behaved and cuter than most kids.....actually compared to a lot of adults on board as well...lol

That should get some responses....but its my opinion just like those who don't like or think dogs should be on ships.....fair is fair!

Maybe you should sail on the Ark.

I for one do not want to be on my vacation with someone else's "ain't he cute" ball of fur. What about someone who is allergic to them; what rights do they have?

And as far as your comment about kids, what a terrible thing to say. Reckon you've been an obedient (ruff, ruff) mature adult your entire life. Yes kids can be a pain in the butt when unsupervised but that isn't the kids fault, it's the parents fault...period.

  16. Was wondering if anyone could possibly shed some light on this question?

The wife and I are currently diamond members and cruising in January. At the conclusion of the cruise we will be one point shy from diamond plus.

Question is, while on our January cruise can the on-board Loyalty Ambassador credit our January cruise one extra point or will we have to wait until the conclusion of a following cruise to reach D+? Thanks

  17. Does anyone know what time we would be off the ship (Grandeur of the Seas) and be able to make it to BWI for a flight? There is a 10am and 11am flight out of BWI that would be perfect. Is that too early of a flight? Should I play it safe and book the 5pm one? Thanks, Steve[/]

My son had an 11:00 a.m flight out of BWI which would have been fine but we hit a nasty storm on the way back to Baltimore and the ship was delayed getting into port. If you do dock on time and self carry your luggage you should be O.K. with 11:00 a.m. I would not recommend 10:00 a.m. you'd be cutting it close.
