  1. Last year we were on an Eastern out of Ft. Lauderdale around this time of year. Storms were brewing and we did get an email the day before that we would most likely be going western. By the time we boarded the next day they had made the decision to stick with Eastern. Was surprised that we got an email at all but we appreciated it.

  2. On the Independence in June GS told me no - could not walk off early with the self-assist.

Have always done luggage valet and love the program.

Have been told on the Independence and Oasis that you can leave after 8:00 a.m when luggage valet is called .....told me could not leave until luggage valet bags were cleared by customs in case they decided to call a specific passenger for something. Not sure how they would know though should you leave prior to 8:00.

Thanks for the info :) I think as long as we are off by 9 we should be fine

  3. Not sure I understand your question... there are three different options, and it sounds like you are confusing them.

Luggage Valet is when you leave your bags out in the hallway the night before (with special Luggage Valet tags that will be left in your room if you specifically sign up and are eligible/accepted for this service) and you pick your bags up at your home airport. You pay an additional fee for this service. The tags already include your flight information for the airline, so this is why you don't have to pick them up again in the terminal, but you do have to get in line to clear Customs along with everyone else. Note that Luggage Valet is not offered on every ship or with every airline, and there are limits based on flight times to be accepted into the program.

    Hope this helps.

yes... this is what I'm looking to do. Looks like it is available for our port/ship/flight times but of course I will confirm once onboard. I was just wondering with this if we could walk off (and of course go through customs, just without our bags as they would be on their way to the airport) when self assist gets called. We aren't new to cruising just RCCL and our flights are usually late afternoon or early evening so we usually put them out and then pick them up before going through customs. I'll be sure to talk to GS when purchasing the Luggage Valet service to see if we can get in one of the early groups. Thanks for your clarification.

  4. Luggage valet program guests are given a departure number just like everyone else. It is not as early as self assist disembarkation, but still one of the early numbers. Asked at guest services about this and was told I could disembark any time after 8:00. Not sure of the rationale, maybe customs give the ok for the luggage valet bags at that time - not sure.

    Gotcha... thanks so much!!

  5. DH and I will be on Indy in about 3 weeks (YAY!!). We have an 11:30ish return flight out of FLL and wanted to use the service where you set your bags out and don't see them again till you land at your destination airport. If we do this can we not do self assist? I want to make sure that we are off the ship as early as possible but don't want to have to manage our luggage.

  6. Good morning... DH and I will be in St. Martin in early September aboard the IOS.. we would like to go parasailing and then find a nice beach to rent chairs/umbrella and do some snorkeling. We've been to St. Martin twice before and have done Bernard's tour (loved it), Maho Beach and shopping. Would like to get some recommendations for beaches with good snorkeling and parasailing companies. Thanks :)

  7. Glad you found it helpful. I'll see what I can do about posting photos and perhaps I'll scan the Compasses and figure out how to post those. We're still organizing the photos and whatnot.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, I'd suggest checking out this thread. Lots of great photos and info:

    Thanks so much!!

  8. Great review. Thanks for taking the time to prepare it. So glad you had a good cruise overall.

What was the cost of the ride to Miami with Larry's Limos and the NCL transfers? Were the NCL transfers done on the ship or prior to boarding? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

thank you so much... I was afraid I'd be too long winded lol ...

Larry's Limos ended up being comparable to a cab so about 80.00 for a private sedan. Not bad but I swear there were times I didn't think we'd make it lol. The NCL transfers were 25.00 pp and we purchased them Thursday (I think) onboard from guest services.

  9. I'm intrigued about the bottle of rum. Can't wait to hear the rest of that story.

Do you have any pictures of Vibe?

There really isn't much more to it. we made them aware of the situation, got a dessert sampler plate and assurance that our cabin steward would be the only one in our cabin from them on. By then the culprit knew (whoever they were) and that was it.. I'm curious if anyone else in our block experienced the same thing (if anyone else had a bar setup). Really we just wanted to make them aware that they had a problem on their hands and whoever it was I hope they think twice now.

  10. Final impressions

The Getaway is a beautiful ship! At no time did we feel the least bit crowded with that many guests on board. Vibe was totally worth it to us but can see where some might not like it. It all depends what you want out of your vacation. Hubby and I both commented that out of our 5 cruises we felt the most relaxed during this one. I do have to say that our room steward was disappointing even in spite of the rum incident (not sure who it was, could have been one of his assistants). We are pretty low maintenance but noticed that even when we would return to our cabin midday that the bed was made but any glasses or dishes we had were not removed and we didn’t always have clean glasses or ice for the bar. In all of our other cruises our stewards did an amazing job and we never had to ask for anything, always saw them in the hallways and were always greeted by name from day one. Perhaps with a ship that large he was just overworked but we hardly ever had any interaction with him and it was kind of disappointing. The food was good but nothing spectacular.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this review as much as I have enjoyed reliving our trip. If you have any questions I will try to answer them a best I can. Thanks!!

I have a TON more pics.. if you want to see something specific I will certainly post it if I have it :D
