  1. Which is the best side for sights in the ports? That is, if the ship is docked and we are sitting on our balcony, with side is usually facing the shore. Husband says the port side and that is why it is called port.

  2. We have only done three cruises, but all three have been to Alaska. First was a 15 day cruise/land tour with only three nights onboard. Then we did the 14 day cruise across the Alaska bay to west ports. Lastly we took a seven day from Seattle on spur of the moment. We preferred the early scenery from Vancouver, though you also get lots of similar scenery later from Seattle. If you want to go to Sitka, a charming town with a variety of things to see, leave from Seattle. If you are a train person, you must leave from Vancouver to go to Skagway. The best glaciers for us were on an excursion to the kenai fiords from Seward, one you don't have time to do unless you are in Seward all day. Every trip was memorable for different reasons. Wildlife, history, lifestyles are all things to experience that you would not get in the Caribbean. We didn't think we were cruisers but HAL and Alaska changed that. It made us want to take land trips to AK, which we have done during the Iditarod. Now we are thinking about the AK ferry. To get a good taste of AK and if you can't take the 14day cruise, try the one way to Seward and go to Denali. BTW, we are retired but go on a budget, not booking upper cabins, so you can have an excellent experience either way. June is a good time as well, everything is up and running, weather is cool but not rainy and ship is quieter than later in summer.

  3. We are wanting to take the Boston-Montreal cruise this summer, probably leaving from Boston. For those who have done this, would you recommend the Veendam or the Maasdam? We probably are not considering the Eurodam to Quebec because we like the smaller ships, but would be willing to listen to your thoughts. Thank you.
