  1. So... there are two Junkanoo Beaches: one in Nassau and one in Freeport? Carnival offers an excursion to Junkanoo Beach in Freeport (which some friends did on their recent cruise, and LOVED!), but I keep getting the ports confused because of this...

  2. Is it feasible to do your own excursion to Kennedy Space centre by taxi? I've read mixed reviews. Some that say getting a taxi back to Port is impossible.

Our cruise ports for nearly 9 hours so time isn't a factor. We don't want to take the cruise line's excursion because we feel it's too long and too pricy.

I have the same question... have also heard mixed reviews. Hoping to get some more responses on this thread, and Im eager to hear your experience when you return!

you CAN rent a car for the day for less than a taxi will cost and it gives you extra flexibility as to dinner ... shopping ... beach stop.

Do you know if there is a cost to park at the KSC? Are car rental facilities close to the dock?

  3. Hey, JennN!

I just happened to stumble upon your review (I was also on this sailing... and someone recently posted in the roll call for our sailing and it notified me... then I saw the link in your sig...) and it was so nice to remember all the fun we had on that cruise. :D It seems so long ago, doesn't it? :( Definitely time to book another one!

Thanks for the (virtual) trip back to the Southern Caribbean aboard the Valor!

  4. Excuse my ugly toes, but these are the Jamberry flip flops on wore on my Freedom cruise 2 weeks ago-

    IMG_7771-1.jpg

How did you like them? I thought someone had posted my toes because thats what I have on mine right now!

I'm waiting for my Jamberrys to arrive too! I ordered white ones with little anchors on them for my cruise. =)
I thought those were really cute for a cruise. The only problem for me was they only came in blue, if I remember correctly. With most of my wardrobe being purple, pink, & red they were a no go.

I immediately thought they would be great for cruising too, of course! Too bad they werent white with blue or gold anchors!

  5. LOL awesome :p thanks, now i can only hope we have some hockey this year:(

I keep saying the same thing! I bought black and gold argyle ones to wear sometime during hockey season...:(

Oh my goodness, CC is costing me money again.

I've haven't painted my toenails since I was a teenager and I'm now 48. After seeing these Jamberry things a couple of days ago, I clicked on the link and ordered some. :D The ones I bought are called autumn flowers or something similar. They don't look like fall colors to me, I just wanted something with both purple and red. Can't wait to get them.

Autumn flowers are on my list for my next order. Please let us know how you like them! They are really great for toes, and look so cute! :)

  6. Looked at that website and they are really cute. How easy are they to apply and how long do they last? We are going on a cruise, followed by Disney World and they would look great to get some of the spooky ones for Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween Party!

I LOVE the "Bright Bats!" The pumpkins and ghosts are cute, too :)

They're supposed to last up to 2 weeks on fingers and 6 weeks on toes. Ive had mine last 14 days on fingers (and Im a Dental Hygienist so Im constantly washing my hands / using cleaning solutions) and my toes are on 5 weeks today! :)

When I posted that message, it was after the second set I had applied to my fingers, first set on toes. There is definitely a learning curve (meaning the first set is usually not so great), but I think the 1st set on my fingers lasted 10 days, 14 days for 2nd set, 11 days for 3rd set. I took the first ones off my toes at 6 weeks. I removed them before they were actually ready to come off because they had grown out so much and looked silly. My second set are still on my toes from early August.

Theyre pretty easy to apply, and directions come with each sheet. For a better seal, they recommend you buff the nail first. You cut the shield in half and heat it with a hairdryer for abt 20 seconds (holding it with tweezers), then gently apply to the nail. They recommend you go around the edges with an orange wood stick to seal them down. Then file off the extra with an emery board.

(My personal tip: Occasionally, throughout the week, I will have lifting at the edges. I heat up my tweezers with my hairdryer and reseal the edges.)

  7. I think I might order some of these as stocking stuffers for my daughters and myself :D Then I will have them for my cruise :D

That's ironic because I happened to look at the website just last night, since I havent checked it out in a while, and they have so many adorable new designs! I need to order more, myself! They even have a hockey design for you, hockeyluver!:D

  8. In the past I have always done my mani/pedi myself and brought the polish with me to fix the chips (which are always worse on fingers, btw!)

But then a friend of mine introduced me to a product she sells called Jamberry Nail Shields. They are similar to the Sally Hansen ones you can get at the drugstore, but they are better quality. They're supposed to last up to 2 weeks on fingers and 6 weeks on toes. Ive had mine last 14 days on fingers (and Im a Dental Hygienist so Im constantly washing my hands / using cleaning solutions) and my toes are on 5 weeks today! :) I get TONS of compliments on them from random people... even had a car dealer ask me for my friends website so he could order for his daughter.

I have a long time before my next cruise :(, but Im trying to decide between these three for my nails. (Or maybe Ill even find something I like better by then?! They have something like 200 designs.)

Patriotic Whimsical Swirl (which I bought specifically because they remind me of the Carnival logo)

  9. It's $39.99 to $43.99 for TWO bottles depending on where you buy it. It's about $27.00 for a single bottle.(Suggestion: Buy 2 bottles in port for $39.99. Show your bill on the ship and they'll meet the price if you wish to buy two more.)

Each person can take 2 bottles off the ship without additional taxes.

Things may have changed since, but when I bought my stash 2 years ago, I took a pic of a Sheridan's display in port with a less expensive price, brought the photo to the onboard store and they credited me the difference then and there.

We got some awesome ice wine last time we were in Canada..definitely plan on getting some more this trip. It was much cheaper than trying to buy some here because apparently in PA you can only buy ice wine at "specialty" wine stores according to state law.

I have seen Ice Wine in liquor stores. Apparently, there are a few liquor stores labeled as "specialty wine stores," Waterworks Mall and McIntire Square stores being two of them. (I see you are a fellow Pittsburgher!):) Its always expensive because of how its made. But I dont doubt its still cheaper in Canada!

  10. Jameson Irish Whiskey.. The real stuff, not the crud they have to sell in the state because of our liquor laws.

I love rum, so I'll have to try this rum cream everyone is talking about. Oh and we have an open bottle of Sheridan's from a cruise 5 years ago... though it has been in the fridge this entire time. :p

Im totally with you. On all points: real Jameson, trying Rum Cream, and "aged," refridgerated Sheridans ;) LOL!

Vallisoletano Xtabentun. Mayan liqueur made from the honey that bees extract from the xtabentun flowers on vines that grow only in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, and is distilled with anise seed and rum. Very good and hard to find.

I wish I had known about this. This sounds like something Id really like to try.:)

  11. Along the line of Aloe Vera, I never travel without Solarcaine. It comes in an aerosol can and contains aloe vera and benzocaine topical anesthetic. It goes on super cold, and does wonders for sunburn. (As long as you dont have any allergies to ester anesthetics; because then you would be in much more pain!:()

  12. Another board member suggested to call in the Disney Gift Card numbers into your TA and have it added to your account. We didn't book through a TA, but through Disney Cruise Lines directly, so wonder if this is something we can add when we do our online check in? Our local grocery store offers bonus gas perks with the purchase of gift cards so it's a double bonus for us -- cheaper gas and getting closer to a $0 balance on our room account!

There was discussion about this on another board, and it sparked my curiosity. Upon perusing the gift cards at the grocery store today, I ran into a woman who said she did the exact thing mentioned here. She ended up with 3 FREE full tanks of gas for her SUV and a trip paid for little by little with each paycheck/grocery trip :)

My question is: does anyone know if there is an expiration for the gift cards? I would love to start saving for a Disney trip/cruise, but since IDK when that will be (except later than sooner:() I dont want them to expire before I get to use them...

  13. So what is Sheridanns?

    sheridans2.jpg

A unique coffee & cream flavored liqueur, that's quite popular on the cruise ships. I've seen if offered, without exception, on every cruise in the complimentary liquor tasting event done on the first evening.

    .

    .

To quote the shot distributor on the Fantasy "And now... Sheridan's. It's Female Via.gra! You will love it!"

where do you get the Sheridanns? which island/port?

I, too, have seen it onboard every ship. Additionally, I was in the duty free shop in Progreso and found it cheaper than offered on the ship. I photographed the price and brought it to the liquor store onboard... they honored the cheaper price and refunded the difference :)

  14. I LOVE THE IDEA OF WINE BOTTLE STOPPERS! Thanks.

I collect sand and shells (I take ziplock bags and sharpee and note date, beach and location.

Also, try to get at least one small piece of art or jewelry on each vacation, not from each port.....unfortunately.

I try to get at least one photograph from each vacation that is "frame worthy".

This would be by either a local photographer or if I get lucky one that I have taken.

    Last but not least...passport stamps.

I, too, love the wine stopper idea! Also try to "collect" a frame-worthy photo... but only my own photography!

Of course, love the passport stamps. I know this has been discussed in threads before, but where do you get them stamped? :confused:I've heard if you leave your passport at the Purser's Desk they will do it for you, but IDK how I feel abt leaving my passport anywhere other than in my safe. Also heard that there are desks around the ports where you can get a stamp...

  15. I have several collections. I have always collected keychains, starting with my first vacation at age 10. I have a sort of pegboard where I hang them above my desk in the spare room. I have since then begun to collect ornaments, pieces of artwork, jewelry, and postcards from the places I visit (land and sea). On the back of the postcards, I (intend to) write a few special memories from the place. :o

Perhaps I should start focusing on ONE collection, lol. :p
