Last summer we had a serious shortage of rental cars in our state, as did many other areas of the US.

Some folks have investigated renting U-Haul vehicles.  While U-Haul is a self-moving company which has vehicles such as small moving vans, they also have some 8 passenger vans.  Last summer we were driving  to Chena Hot Springs Resort and actually saw one of their rental vans on the road -- folks would stop at scenic pull-outs and take photos.

Yes, I also read somewhere to rent Uhaul, I just checked the Uhaul site, but they only have cargo vans. But we are 3, if we were only 2, that might be a good option.

Not quite right.  Note this from the NPS Glacier Bay site -

    Cruise Ships

    Viking
    Cunard
    Holland America Line
    Norwegian Cruise Lines
    Princess Cruise Lines
    Seabourn Cruise Line Limited

    Tour Vessels

    Alaska Dream Cruises
    American Cruise Lines, Inc
Aramark Sports and Entertainment Services, LLC
    Lindblad Expeditions, Inc.
    Un-Cruise Adventures

    Hi Don.

NPS says that. But for 2023 itineraries, I dont find any itinerary with Glacier Bay on Viking, Cunard or Seabourn. And Cunard only have round trip cruises, Seabourn have some one way, but only up to Juneau.

  3. I am planning to rent a car before or after the cruise in Anchorage to have 5 days land tour on our own. But its really expensive! Like $170 a day por a compact car.

Any of you have a rental place you recommend with cheaper fares?

We are doing a Northbound out of Vancouver to Seward in June on the Norwegian Jewel.  We have been on the Jewel and the Encore on Alaskan cruises and prefer the smaller size of the Jewel for the Alaska cruise.  We chose this cruise because it goes to both Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier.  They are 2 of Alaska's best scenic areas in my opinion.

Thats one option, the Jewel in June.

  5. Hello.

I want to go to Alaska. One way, so we can do land.

Glacier bay is a must for us.

These are the only cruiselines that go to Glacier bay. Between Norwegian, Holland America and Princess, which one do you reccomend for Alaska?

We have been in Alaska some 15 years ago in Royal Caribbean. Also have cruised on NCL and Princess on other parts.

yes, logged in and not logged. it was the same result.

But it appears it was a glitch on the site, I can now see the prices and can book online with no problem.

    Thanks

  7. Hello,

Some years ago I cruised Princess to Hawaii and I booked online on Princess site. I am no searching for an Alaska cruise, but I can not book online? It only says contact a travel agent. Am I missing something or now it is not possible to book online on the site?

    Thanks.

  8. we sailed Amadeus 3 summers ago: Nuremburg to Budapest on our TA's recommendation

    LOVED them

cabin was great' date=' slide down panaromic window was super

    staff, food, tours were great

Waned to use them for next year Paris/Normandy but their Normandy day isn't to the beaches

in the US you book thru Amadeus and they are owned by Luftner[/quote']

    Great!

Good to know. So, for US booking is Amadeus and European bookings directly thru Luftner.

    Thanks

  9. HAL does not allow you to just pay the difference between the cost of the drink and the $9 limit.

I read somewhere ( I think on the boards ), that if it is more than the $9, you only pay the difference. But if you have experience on this, Ill have that in mind. ( I will cruise for the first time with HAL in May )

  10. I am taking a Holland America cruise next may from Vancouver to Seward.

At what time do you disembark? Is there chaos with big lines with customs and migration?

I am looking for a Glaciar Kayak tour, but it is at 8am, I don think I will be able to take it, what do you think?

    Thanks

  11. The best lobster you can eat is at Halifax. You will need to rent a car and do a road trip to go to Peggys Cove. Near Indian Harbour its a place called Ryer Lobster. The best lobster, boiled in sea water. At a good price.

The place si nothing fancy, but you will like it.

Here is a review I found on the internet:

  12. Yes -- it happened to us on the Eurodam in 2015. HAL had so many promotions going on that the Pinnacle Grill had to open at 5 PM to try and take care of everyone.

We always try to book a PS and did have one on this cruise(s) -- Collectors Cruise.

Our 5 star Mariner (2 free Pinnacle dinners) and Explore4 package were all honored. But many other people were given a shipboard credit or offered a Canaletto dinner. Quite a few people were very mad.

    Thanks.

I am not mad, but I wanted to try Pinnacle Grill since its my first HAL cruise and I have read good reviews on PG.

Someone told me that there is a possibility to make a reservation to PG once onboard, ill try it.

    Greetings from Mexico

  13. You can always email a personal cruise consultant and have them refare it. Then you'll have a person to contact to check in and see if there are any better deals on your cruise.

I don't have a cruise consultant, but I just filled the online form to get assigned one.

    Thanks

  14. Just call HAL and speak to an agent. Ask to have your cruise re-fared, as long as the perks you get now are better than what you had previously. By re-faring, you keep your same booking number and any other arrangements you've already made. If you cancel and rebook you would lose those arrangements.

    Thanks, I will call.

I was wondering if I could do it online because I am from Mexico, and some times is a pain calling to US numbers.

I will try to re-fare it and not cancel and rebook it.

    Thanks again.
