After Carnival cancelled our fully paid for cruise 3 times over the past year & half, our scheduled Dec 2021 cruise should be a go.

However, our 80+ Mother's health is in heavy decline & now can not travel with us on this upcoming cruise.

Since our cruise has been fully paid for the past year & half, & has good OBC, we still wanted to go cruising, but just want to change the passenger.

Called Carnival & they said that since we added the heavily advertised Cheers package promo to the cruise fare, there's now a $150 per passenger to change to another passenger, or to change sailing, or to cancel.

The cruise has been fully paid for, Carnival has our $$$ for a year & half, so why are they making so difficult just to change out one passenger's name?  Does it really matter to them if adult Jane X is cruising or adult Julie X is cruising instead, 5 months from now?

    Any sugg?

    Thanks,

I don’t intend for this to come across as rude, but the truth is because they really don’t care. Carnival will always do everything in their power to to protect their bottom line.

I own a small business so I realize the bottom line is important, but taking care of the customer is always important too and sometimes you have to do things in good faith. I’m my experience Carnival will jump on every opportunity to do something that looks like they are taking care of the customers as long as it has the smallest impact to the bottom line. Any other actions that most companies would do out of a true north is off the table for Carnival.

  2. Seems like Carnival would’ve offered free cheers packages to everyone that was already booked for the inconvenience vs loosing money. I realize a lot are just pushing their cruise down the road, but a lot of us are packing up and moving on. A $400+ cheers package only costs them a very small percentage of the actually price and giving away $100 worth of alcohol for two people would be a better business decision than missing out on $1500-$2500 in revenue.

And what are the odds that someone will get their trip cancelled for a FALSE  positive?

I have no idea. Is it possible it’s zero? Sure. Is it possible it’s a handful? Yes

And odds are you could get a second test in time and save your trip.

But again, if your time and emotional stress is worth it to you then great, but I’m not okay with it. I prefer to get a refund and move on and let those that are good with it set sail. I have plenty of options of places to go and things to do where I have more control over my time and actions.

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE REFUND* AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COVID-19 (from https://www.carnival.com/Legal/covid-19-legal-notices/covid-19-guest-protocols?icid=advisory_cruisehealth_072821)

The following information applies to all sailings scheduled during the declared Public Health Emergency involving COVID-19. Except as specifically stated below, or as otherwise provided in the Ticket Contract for your cruise, the standard cancellation policies and penalties described in the Ticket Contract apply.

    CRUISE CANCELLED BY CARNIVAL

    • If your cruise is cancelled by Carnival or boarding is delayed by twenty-four (24) hours or more due to government order or declaration of Public Health Emergency, you are entitled to a refund of the amount paid to Carnival within 180 days, or an optional Future Cruise Credit (“FCC”).

    CRUISE CANCELLED BY GUEST

    • If, following a declaration of a Public Health Emergency, you cancel a booking for a cruise scheduled during the declared emergency, or must cancel your booking because you are prohibited from traveling to the vessel due to a governmental travel restriction, but the cruise is not cancelled, you are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival. In all other cases our standard cancellation policy will apply, as set forth in the Ticket Contract for your cruise.
    • If you, your family members living with you in the same household or travelling companions assigned to the same stateroom cancel a cruise booking due to testing positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of embarkation, you and they are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival. If guest has close contact with a positive or suspected COVID-19 case within 14 days of embarkation, and Carnival deems you are unfit to travel, you are eligible for a FCC.
    • To qualify for the FCC, if your COVID-19 test was administered by a provider other than one retained by Carnival, you must present your verified positive test result in a form acceptable to Carnival.

DENIAL OF EMBARKATION OR REBOARDING; QUARANTINE AND/OR DISEMBARKATION

    • If you, your family members, travelling companions or other close contacts are denied embarkation or reboarding, or quarantined or disembarked during the voyage, due to a positive COVID-19 test or being suspected of having COVID-19, you and they are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival in the event of denial at embarkation, or a pro-rated refund of the unused portion of your Cruise Fare in all other cases.
    • Guests denied embarkation or reboarding, or who are disembarked or quarantined during the voyage, for failure to comply with the Carnival COVID-19 Guest Protocols in effect at the time of the cruise, shall not be entitled to a refund or compensation of any kind. Please refer to the Ticket Contract issued for your cruise for complete details.

*All refund requests must be made within six months of the scheduled embarkation date or you will only be entitled to a Future Cruise Credit for the amount specified.

That makes sense if the guidelines remain the same as when you booked, but if there is a major change like this then I am hopeful Carnival will do the right thing.

I have yet to be able to get anyone on the phone so we will see.

I realize that there is a segment of guests that differ from me and are okay with the changes, but we should all respect each other’s opinion on the matter.

Personally I am not okay with having to carve out time of my work schedule a day or two before I will be gone for a week of pto to get tested. And the fact that someone, somewhere will potentially get their travel denied at the last minute because of false positive is very disheartening. I hope that doesn’t happen, but odds are that eventually someone’s trip will be impacted.

  5. Thanks, I have’nt had an opportunity to see his statement. I plan to call Carnival today as soon as I get an opportunity and find out what the penalty is. I just don’t think those of us that are vaccinated should have to be subject to a test that can give false positives from time to time. And what happens to someone that does test positive? Do they just loose out on all the money they’ve invested or do they get a future credit?

  6. What happens if rapid tests arent available? A friend of mine got sick this past weekend and it took him 3 days to get tested; now he has to wait until Friday to get the results. It’s going to be hell trying to manage that to make sure you have what you need to get on board. Pretty crappy IMO.

On my most recent cruise, they refused to sell you buckets, buy drinks for others, buy drinks for yourself, etc.  Carnival has struck down on this hard, for some unknown reason.  They profit in the long run, but alas, that is why Norwegian's drinks package kicks their ass.  Bring on a rum runner, add liquor to your drinks that way.  Utilize the wine you bring onboard, or order a bottle at dinner.  But the other PAYING workarounds are disappearing fast.  Probably a matter of time before they shut you COMPLETELY off of ANY beverages, alcohol or not, when you hit 15.

Amen, I don’t understand why Carnival is known as the party ships, but are so hyper sensitive about drinks.

I have more than double the trips on Carnival than Norwegian, so I’m not a Carnival hater, but it kills me that they let Norwegian wipe the floor with them on this subject.

My recently booked trip on Vista was the same price as a similar NCL cruise that included the drink package; so in essence NCL was almost $400 cheaper, and NCL will let you get two drinks every time you go to the bar if you wish - no limits.

  8. My suggestion is do it yourself. I’ve used all three methods over the years and suggest a TA if you have a prior relationship with them. If you’re only cruising and not doing other types of trips then they are not needed.

PVP’s IMO are a complete waste of time. Maybe it’s just my PVP based upon the comments I’ve read in this thread. I’ve had the same one for years and he isn’t worth a dime. I’ve caught him in several bold face lies over the years, to the point it was entertaining. And I can’t tell you how many times he’s called and left me a voicemail about him needing me to call him back quick because “he’s finally got that special promotion for me but I need to book quick!”....days after I had logged in and booked myself. If he took ten seconds to verify if I was already booked he could’ve spent his time on other prospects instead of wasting it leaving me a voicemail.

I would have to agree with Saint Greg. I almost always cruise solo and at a price that would be almost identical to the NCL solo cabin price. Sometimes the inside cabin I get has two portholes for the same price ! I have no need for the mixers and get-togethers in the NCL lounge, I'm sorry, but I find them primarly aimed at the socially inept, IMHO. I don't recall any specific meetings for singles cruisers either.

I would, however, support Carnival building a ship which has a floor of tiny minimal cabins aimed at the solo cruiser. I'm seldom there  . . . shower, change clothes, and sleep if I must. 🙂

For me it’s about getting everyone together from the start.

I’ve cruised solo many times on multiple lines and easily make friends with groups, couples, singles, etc. But if you have fifty people cruising alone on the ship it just seems to make sense to get them all together from the start.

Meeting people to hang out with is the easy part; finding all the solo cruisers is the challenge! 🙂

  10. I was wondering if any solo cruisers could chime in on their recent experiences on Carnival. I strictly cruised Carnival up until a few years ago, but after I tried out Norwegian I became a fan of their solo cabins and nightly events for solo travels. They do a great job of creating a fun atmosphere for everyone traveling solo; young and old.

I remember Carnival always having a singles meet up at certain bars but the majority of the time next to no one would show up. Is this still the same norm, or have they advanced any?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. @Natefish, yes Rambling Wreck.

@Chapster, cool! It will be a blast.

I know they won’t have as many activities as the seven day trips, but I was hoping they at least did the white night and at least a dedicated hour for 70’s or 80’s. I’ve done a few shorter cruises over the years, but I don’t recall any of them having so little activity on the roll call. Either way, I’m sure they will have karaoke and the club will be open after 11pm so it will be fun!

  12. Good morning,

It’s been about three years since I’ve sailed on Carnival and was hoping someone could fill me in on any changes to events and activities and I have a few other questions.

    1. Does anyone have a copy of recent fun times for the 4 day itinerary on Liberty? I’ve searched all over online and the most recent I can find were from last May or the 3 day itinerary.

    2. Are they doing Quest on the shorter trips?

    3. Do they still do the white night?

    4. Do they have a 70’s or 80’s theme night? I saw a video on Youtuve for an 80’s theme night on another Carnival ship that I never saw in the past when I sailed. It looked like a lot of fun.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

  13. Does anyone have any recent dailys for Divina that they can load or direct me to? Preferably Eastern Caribbean.

The latest I could find were from Gambee's site and around June of last year.

    Thanks!

  14. Almost got a heart attack. I tried to pull up our booking but only received an error message about missing mandatory info. Called msc the agent said everything was good. We are paid in full and have already received our edocs for our cruise in april. When I typed in my user name and password the booking came up but couldn't get to it by entering my booking number and first and last name.

That's great news, because when it happened to me they basically told me "sorry". And because it was a planned trip for my birthday with other travelers I ended up having to book a room at double what i originally paid, based upon what was available once I discovered the error, in order to not miss the trip.

  15. Good morning everyone,

I decided to take a year off from Carnival (20 previous cruises) as prices seem to be less competitive in 2016 and incentives seem to be pretty good at some of the other cruise lines. I ended up taking three 7 day cruises on Norwegian this year and had a blast.

I'm in the planning phase for 2017 and while I'm probably going to try out Royal Carribean next year, I'm also pondering trying out Carnival again. I looked at Vista - I've been on all the other new ships Carnival has to offer, but was disappointed to see they are doing the 6 and 8 days sailings on Vista. I'd love the extra day of taking an 8 day, but am concerned that there will be less 20 and 30yr olds on an 8 day vs. 7, as there is already a noticeable difference in the amount on a 7 vs. 5 day. 7 day cruises just seem like the peak balance between short enough to get a nice diverse crowd and long enough to feel like you had a nice break away from reality.

Do you guys have any feedback on what's changed in the past year; good and bad? If I do book it looks like I'll probably avoid Vista since 6 is too short and I believe 8 would not offer the same crowd - although I'd love to try her out. I'll probably book Magic; though I have already done this ship when it was in TX.

An example of the pricing issue I mentioned is the Glory is around $550 to book in 2016 when back in 2004 - 2012 timeframe when the ship was newer, the same ship and itenary was $450-$480 all the time. I know they added things to the ship and remodeled, but I just don't see the value in paying more as a customer. Just my opinion.

  16. When I cruise NCL, I book my fare with a specialty dining pkg for free, so when I compare the food, NCL wins out. I understand that paying as you go, nickel and diming, isn't good for the digestion. But a free dining package at a different themed restaurant every night sure beats Carnival's MDR and is a great appetite stimulant.

As you say, OSheehan's is also a nice place for lunch especially on embarkation day.

I realize not many cruisers would pick the dining option, I think most would opt for the free drinks on NCL vs doubling your cruise fare on Carnival with their Cheers pkg.

    I concur!

  17. Getting on and off the ship - after embarkation:

So I mentioned earlier in my comparison that NCL seemed to be a little slower getting on the ship once you recieve you're card. But I also wanted to make a comparison while getting on/off at port and during debarkation.

In ports: While NCL did the standard photo ops while getting off in port; they made a big deal about you getting back on. I really wouldn't care if they didn't do anything, but since they did I thought it was worth mentioning. They made it seem like a party with loud music playing, the cruise director was in front walking on stilts and giving everyone a high five, the crew members were handing out cold mint towels to refresh which were a nice addition, they were giving out water and lemonade and the members who were cleaning the ship were really in to it and dancing to the music. It was a nice gesture.

Getting off the ship turned out to be pretty smooth, especially since I didn't have the platinum credientials that I'm used to with Carnival. Anyone who wants to get off carrying their own luggage got to get off first and they kept the line organized as it seemed like everyone was carrying off. While the line looked a mile long, it went super quick and was painless. Even the elevators were working! Advantage: NCL
