  1. I just spent a week on Freedom (Eastern 4/19) and debated in advance whether to purchase any kind of drink package. We are both virtual non-drinkers, and I also don’t drink soda regularly, while hubby is a minimal soda drinker. We both decided to go with the Royal Replenish package and I wanted to share that it was a good value and I would definitely do it again.

Here are my tips on how to maximize your “investment”:

Breakfast – the fresh squeezed orange juice is crazy! There’s a really cool machine that does it right in front of you and I haven’t tasted anything better.

Specialty coffee – the Starbucks counter, located in the Promenade, Deck 5, is open from 6:30am until 1am. They have a decent selection of hot, iced and frozen options. I always asked for a bottled water while I was getting a coffee to bring up on deck or stash in the cabin for later.

Self-serve machines – there are several in key locations and offer a wide mix of Dasani waters, Minute-main lemonade and also a variety of Sprite and Ginger ale flavors if you’re not into Coke. The insulated cup kept the ice cold for a long time.

Excursions – when exiting the ship, the usual water stations are set up by the gangway. With the package, there’s no charge.

Bars – throughout the day, we would grab a frozen virgin something. We loved the virgin Coco Loco, frozen lemonade, pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris. As above, I would also ask for a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Frozen drinks were also included while on Coco Cay. We took advantage there, too.

Late night – we stayed up until about 1am most every night (piano bar fans) and enjoyed ginger ale interspersed with the occasional after dinner drink.

We figured that if we had about 6 items per day each, that we covered the cost (about $22/day, I think). The best part was not stressing about limiting myself to keep our bill manageable at the end of the trip. If you’re on the fence about whether to purchase a package as a light drinker, I would highly recommend the Royal Replenish.

Thanks for the info.It didn't click that the bottled water at the water stations in the gangway are part of the package.

  2. Hello Mr.Donald,

I don't want to have to keep waiting for a Carnival ship to either be built or re- fitted in Europe before I can sail with Carnival.

Why not leave a ship - any Carnival ship in Europe.

The airfare alone for one person from London to America or the Caribbean to cruise with Carnival, is the same as 3 people cruising from a port in America.

Just as the Disney Parks are situated at strategic points around the globe, surely Carnival can do the same?

    Hoping!

  3. My wife and I give the ACT test at our local school and are paid via prepaid Visa cards. Can we use these on the cruise? Will they work at the kiosk? Please let me know if you have experience with this!

Just curious - what's an ACT test?

I'm not sure about the U.S, but in the U.K although you cannot use a pre-paid card to book in with before boarding, pre-paid cards can be used at the cash dispenser displaying the currency you need.

  4. For me it's mid ship because I am prone to sea sickness.

Near the stairs/lift because my sense of direction is 0

A cabin on the launderette deck if there is one. As crazy as it may seem, I like to leave the ship with suitcases full of clean clothes in preparation for the next cruise -even if it is a year ahead!

Depending on which region the ship is sailing eg from Barbados to Puerto Rico I chose the starboard side in the hope of glimpsing the islands as we sailed by.

For the Med I chose the port side, again to catch a glimpse of mountain tops, islands etc....

I do the same for air travel:)

  5. I wonder if something is incorrect with their deckplans/booking system and that may be why you were moved......? It's a shot in the dark but I say it because today, I was able to book 3 people into a cove balcony room #2364 but by view of all the deckplans I can see of Vista, it's supposed ot be a 2pax room only. So unsure if I'm in a true 3pax room or it's the booking systems mistake ..... I may end up finding out the hardway.

I have booked that very cabin for the 6th Aug sailing for 3 people.

  6. I, for one am excited about the Havana Cabana Suites/Balconies. I've been wanting something like it for a long time. Not having to wake up at the crack of dawn to get to the pool before all the chair hogs is something I am happy to pay extra for.

The rooms are gorgeous and the private patios just take it over the top. Best thing Carnival has done since Guy's Burgers.

For curiosity sake, where can I read more about/see the Havana Cabana Suites/Balconies?

  7. Glad I have a little weekend trip planned for next weekend. It will distract me and make the waiting easier! :p

My guess is alternating 7 and 12 or 14 day itineraries out of Rome. We shall see.....

As far as Venice goes, perhaps Bari would be an alternative? I don't know much about Bari, but I do see it on a lot of other line's itineraries as a port.

Lucky you - I'm knitting socks to keep me occupied until the 22nd:eek:

  8. Glad to answer. Anytime we book a cruise, we look at the cruise before the one that caught our attention and the one after. Last year we knew that we wanted to take the Legend around Great Britain. We booked that cruise and the TA after, then the one to Norway and Northern Europe before, giving us a 39-day B2B2B cruise. If you book them all together you have a much better chance of getting the same cabin for the entire trip. Hope that helps. John

Thanks for your example- I get it now!
