  1. We are actually cruising on Ruby but since we are told she will be new to Alaska there are no dailys that would apply. I always like to get an idea of the ships activities in advance and I expect Ruby and Crown both being Princess ships will have similar daily activities/events on board. So if anyone has some they would share I would greatly appreciate it. :)

  2. Just wondering as I pick a date for our cruise if we will have a better chance of seeing wildlife or ice calving (I think it is called this) on one part of the cruise season over another. I would love to see whales, bears, elk etc., and I'm willing to pick my date based upon my opportunities. Thanks for your input. :)

  3. Wow Crew News, after reading through your link, the HAL Westerdam looks like a fun time. I was leaning toward Princess but now I'm not so sure. The mixology class would be a blast since I'm always trying to see what tastes good. Love to see those menus you mentioned. Thanks.

  4. Thank you all for your information. Some of the reviews and the FAQ section on the Princess and HAL site sounded like these two ships had the best cruise from Seattle to Alaska, but they also sounded more formal. Not just on formal night, but on the ship in general. "No shorts after 6:00 on deck". Now I don't plan to wear shorts on an Alaskan cruise but I've always worn shorts even in the evening on all of my other cruises (but not in the dining room). I just want to be comfortable. I love dressing up for one formal night, but not in a long gown or tux for the hubby and the non formal nights that are on the ship, if I want to eat in the dining room, I want to be able to put on slacks and a sweater or blouse and not stand out after a long day of touring. As to winter clothing, living in Florida for the past 13 years my skin has gotten thin and I don't do cold like I used to.:p

Anyway thanks again. I'm going to look at some links that were shared and decide who I want to cruise with and plan to pack my blue jeans.:)

  5. We are trying to decide on a ship/cruise line out of Seattle for our Alaskan cruise in late May or early June. Trying to save money for spending on excursions rather than on luggage fees at the airport. Which cruise line is more lenient on the dress code on the ships in general and in the dining area? I know we will dress up for formal night, but hubby does not own a tuxedo and I own no long gowns. Cocktail dress and suit and tie is fine but prefer nothing more formal than that. Otherwise we are jeans/slacks people and would like to be comfortable on the cruise. We will already be paying for luggage in order to get our winter attire to the West coast from Florida so I appreciate any comments or suggestions. :)
