  1. SPOILER ALERT- Do not read if you want to experience it impromptu, how its intended.

If you win the Auditions you must be able to make 3 other events as listed below.

This was on the Breeze as of Sept 2017:

    Schedule:

1st Sea Day : Auditions on the Lido Deck.

No limit on the contestants, they take 3 rounds to pare the field down to one male and one female. Girls always went first.

They gave all contestants 30 seconds to 'borrow' items to create a new persona.

Auditions Round 1: Introduce yourself and a very short cat walk to introduce your persona. Top 4 of each sex moved on.

Auditions Round 2 (Same event) Dance contest, each contestant shows their dance skills. If you can't dance, be creative it's all about entertaining the Lido crowd. 2 of each sex move on to the next round. Songs Women: Push It/ Men: It's Tricky (May vary per ship)

Auditions Round 3 (Same event) Lip Sync Ability They give you a mic 'prop' and the option of song 1 or 2, so you will get either song and this may vary per ship:

Females Lip Sync to either Party In the USA or Should've Put A Ring on It

Males: Black and White (Michael Jackson) or Play That Funky Music White Boy.

Should you win, you meet the 'wrangler' later that day. He/she gives you the schedule of events, two songs books and an ipod so you can practice.

    Mini-Battle (Round 2)

This determines who goes first in the free-style portion of the Main Event. Held in the Atrium.

The men start with Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson) then the ladies interrupt with Wannabe (Spice Girls) the the men interrupt with Fresh Prince of Belair (Will Smith) then the women finish with Crazy in Love (Beyonce). These are shorten versions of each song a little over a minute each. The winner gets to pick who goes first in the Main Battle.

After the Mini Battle is a a photo shoot. You take several poses with different props, they use them for the show and you get a usb drive with all the photos of you on them.

    Last Sea Day:

    Morning Show Interviews:

Rehearsal: On the afternoon preceding the Main Battle, you get walked through how the show proceeds and 'fitted' for you costume. You do your 'freestyle' song, they let us do it twice. Then you go backstage for your costume change and run through your choreographed song. We were given the option of running through it a second time.

Main Event: 1 Freestyle and 1 Choreographed Song/Last Sea Day You get a choice from about 168 songs for your freestyle. They are shortened versions of the song lasting about 1 and half minute. I can't list all 168 and they may vary, I doubt it but 168 is a long list. They have all genres here's a few I remember: Can't Stop the Feeling, Before He Cheats, Fancy (by Iggy Azalea not Reba McIntire), Dontcha (PussyCat Dolls). They have some other pop, rock and R and B.

    Choregraphed Songs:

    Women:

Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" Costume: Long Gold Sequin Evening Gown with slit up the side and a white collar.

Glory Gaynor - "I Will Survive" Costume: Black Sequin Blouse and Slacks with Afro wig.

The Weather Girls - "It’s Raining Men" - Costume: Yellow Raincoat and show covers that look like yellow weather boots.

    Men:

White Snake- "Hear I Go Again" Costume 70’s long blonde hair wig, black shirt leather jacket and yellow snake print pants

Usher- "Yeah" Costume: White Slacks and Sweater over a black sequin shirt and gold chain

    p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 11.0px Helvetica; -webkit-text-stroke: #000000}p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 11.0px Helvetica; -webkit-text-stroke: #000000; min-height: 13.0px}span.s1 {font-kerning: none}

Tina Turner - "Rolling on the River" - Costume: Start in velcro black pants with black shirt and tie, underneath is a short silver sequin dress and the dancers put a Tina Turner wig on your head.

  2. Your on a 'Fun Ship' tell'em to go.

My husband turned Platinum and then later on Diamond before me. I went to every event with him.

But there's been at least two cruises were we've met other couples and took them to the party with us. At the last party we forgot our invites and had no problems.

  3. Bill, find a specific cabin in the lowest interior category by using the well-known forbidden website. Put that cabin number into the appropriate box on the booking page.

I am guessing that you will see the lower price there.

hmmm, a new forbidden site to decode........

RCL had a summer cruise for 549.00 tried to book two cabins at that price, the website let me book one and said there weren't rooms available for the second room. Call to RCL the next day reveal it was a 'Going, going, gone sale' and apparently gone happened before we could go lol.

Ended up having to pay 150 more for the second cabin.

If you think that's frustrating, I've had internet ads pop up for Carnival cruises that don't exist. (i.e. full transit panama canal)

  4. Atomax,

Panama Canal is the game I'm playing, would you share what cabin and price?

I'm trying to get a budget together.

    Great, great, great article, thanks!

For OP, I booked a last minute Panama Canal cruise about 8 days prior to embarkation. I had watched the price on ncl.com and checked airfare to Miami. I called NCL when I thought the price had gone down to a price I could accept and still get decent airfare. The PCC I spoke with said the fare had dropped another $50 from the website price; Bonus, I thought to myself. Two days later, the price dropped another $50. I called the PCC back and he was able to get me a small OBC for the difference. So, to answer your original question, the price can change quite frequently, sometimes to your advantage, sometimes not.

  5. It would be nice to hear the results,

My Carnival PVP said that 'capacity' is based on Life Boat seats.

We have my DH booked in a stateroom solo and we have until the cruise reaches capacity to add another person. (For the cost of Taxes/Port Fees)

We could've booked him with a TBD but we'd have to name his passenger before the final payment.

My perception is that the OP should be able to make the change with the $50 fee as long as they weren't booked Early Saver.

  6. Take the life jacket. The current is usually mild but it can affect you so take it.

It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

It doesn't matter how fit you are or how strong of a swimmer you are, take the life vest. (Or you may need to hand it off to someone in need)

This is a FABULOUS trip, I had an awesome time, but your in nature and you need to be responsible.

No matter which tour company you choose, when you're in a group situation, don't rely on guides to keep you safe. Take the life jacket and be aware of your position and try to stay between the safety ring or trailing guide and the boat.

We had a young man in our group that was free diving down and get close up pics. With the current and all the swimming around, he had tired himself out and didn't have a life jacket. He started struggling which led to a panic. Lucky for him there were divers in the area that helped him drift back to their boat.

I saw him, but stupid me, I didn't have my jacket and I felt myself getting tired.

Our guides were unaware that they were missing any one.

I got back on the boat just in front of the safety ring trio and I asked, "Where's the guy in the Capt America swim suit?' and the were like, "Who?". That's when I saw him on the dive boat and I said, 'That guy, he's ours.' The boat pulled up next to us and he and his gf jumped back in the boat with us.

It was scary that the guides didn't notice the guy struggling, but the 'safety' guy in the rear was having to pull 3 people on a safety ring back to boat against a mild current and so he was face in the water and didn't see me or the other guy was way behind him.

What happens is your face down in the water following a string ray or shark and it appears that since you're swimming with the animal that you are making progress to where you are heading, but that wasn't the case.

I was swimming (kicking feet with fins) just behind a shark heading in the direction of the boat, after about 20 seconds, I look up to make sure I wasn't going to run into anything and I discovered I was further from the boat than when I started filming. I had to freestyle swim back to ring, where my dh was.

Once I was sure he was where he could touch, I hopped in the boat to see about the other guy. I felt bad for not being able to help the guy but I didn't see the divers swim for him, so I was confident he was going to be ok. But you don't know until you see them, and that's a scary section of time.

Since you are going to asked, we booked the tour through the ShoreExcursioner site. It was Shark Ray Alley and Gardens by air.

I'll report back the name of the outfitter, they were super nice but the used regular life jacket fastened around your waste, like a noodle, instead of the yellow snorkel vest.

My best recommendation is to find a company using the Yellow Vest and smaller groups no more than 12-15, smaller if you can get.

We had 30 in our group.

  7. How was the ride there? I have a daughter who gets car sick easily. We could give her Dramamine but then she would be a zombie throughout the experience.

Also, what is customary to tip?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

You should try motioneaze for your motion sickness, it's available at most pharmacies. It's oil based and works by rubbing a small amount behind the ears, works fast and doesn't leave you drowsy.

  8. If you're just in it for the Ports then the ship or cruise line doesn't matter. The cruise will be what you make it.

Why are you concerned with activities on Port Days if you're taking the cruise b/c of the ports?

If you're meaning excurision options, then NCL is way better. Not that they have a bigger selection, their prices are just comparable to the tour operators.

I've been on over 15 Carnival cruises and the only time I saw any one sick was a guy returning to his ship after a afternoon of drinking $1 shots in Ensenada.

  9. We were on NCL last April when passengers carried their luggage on board, they said they missed embarkation due to a funeral.

    So cruise lines allow it.

Did you call the Customer Service number or the number listed on your boarding pass, you know the one that states something like 'Running Late Call .....'?

The Customer Service line is known for distributing misinformation.

  10. ...A few years ago I sailed on the Norwegian Sky on a short 3 night cruise. I like the concept of cruising and the service was nice, but I honestly found the ship activities to be a little boring. I think I would have much more fun on a ship with more activities.

Not sure what 'activities' that you think you'll find on Carnival that are more interesting than NCL. Carnival's main activity seems to be Trivia and sales pitch disguised as seminars or shows. At night you have Comedy Club/Karaoke or the main show in the forward theater.

The Triumph is good ship and Progresso is a great port and allows access to Chichen Itza.

The Spa and Main theater are in the front, if you do MDR, that's at the rear along with the comedy club. Base your cabin location near the activity you think will be participating in the most.

(Example, we MDR and hit the Comedy Club/Karaoke so we choose a cabin near the rear of the ship.)

  11. Not to hijack the thread but I wondered what it is about NCL Style that you dont care for as opposed to Carnival? I have a "free" NCL cruise that I am taking on the Getaway in July, and I had never considered straying from Carnival at this point and I wonder what I am in for (but hard to decline a almost free cruise and why not try it! )

I'm Platinum on Carnival b/c price but our best cruise experiences have been on the 3 Norwegian Cruises. They will be sailing out of Houston in the fall so the OP should give them a try.

lizziez, if you find a waiter on NCL that you really enjoy, every night you can request to be seated in their section.

  12. Great place to Dolphin Swim at a discount. Shuttle over to Lucaya Mkt Place. Make your way to the UNESCO pool and you can book your dolphin encounter there for 1/2 what the ship charges and the let you bring your own camera. They do take a pictures but the were reasonable.

  13. May I suggest that you also move towards the aft elevators?

First day the mid ship elevators are closed and the newbies who are eternally lost will always gravitate towards the forward elevators.

Any port days and the elevators and stairs become high traffic areas.

With an mid-ship or aft cabin, you can climb one flight of stairs and walk the hallway, if your forward, you have to wait for an empty elevator or hump it up 7 or more flights of stairs, ugh.

Sea days are iffy depending on what's going on, but we usually find ourselves on five and having to manuever around the crowds drawn into the narrow corridor outside the shops.
