Sol y Mar is basically a beach day. It has a reasonable sized beach. When you arrive you are put into designated areas with a waiter and loungers. I found shade a little lacking as the day went on and the sun moved (no umbrellas) but I pulled my lounger away from original area and there are palm trees for shade further back from the ocean. There are some water sports and snorkeling for active adults. There are some inflatable swans to rent for children. Easy beach access into sea I wore water shoes mainly because I always do, not sure they were necessary. It is a much closer to Cozen Hole than the popular West Bay area and no vendors. We just opted for PAYG package. No pool.

Maya Key has more variety of options of things to do- places to walk, some animals to visit. It has a beach but we have never stayed in that area and have preferred the area around the pool. It probably has better snorkeling off a pier but currents can be strong depending on weather.Lunch is included in price but drinks are extra. It is a very convenient and easy boat ride (5 minutes) from the port if you are on a ship docking at Cozen Hole. Again no vendors. We have visited with a toddler.

Depends what sort of day you want. Facilities are good at both and I would return to either.

Thank you for the info. We decided on Maya Key and it can only be booked through the cruise line. I went to book it and they were sold out! So, Sol y mar it is!

  2. We are 4 adults and a 5 year old. Looking for nice beach but need shade or umbrellas. Two of us looking for relaxing day on the beach and 2 are more active and would appreciate more activities. The 5 year old will be happy in the water all day. Would appreciate any recommendation.....thank you.

I've not stayed in any of those, but Lotus and Reykjavik Lights are probably a bit easier to walk to the main downtown area than Icelandair Nature (which is located next to the domestic airport.)  Depending on how much you like to walk, that may make a difference to you.  Each of them are near a bus stop.  The "main drag" of Reykjavik is Laugaveger street, where you'll find the majority of restaurants, stores, etc, but technically anything in the  101 postal code area is downtown.

    Great info....thank you!

  4. We are staying in Copenhagen for 1 night before our Baltics cruise in June. I have 3 hotels booked and need to choose 1. Could I have some feedback on the different hotels?

  6. I have read good reviews about "All Around Italy Tours" but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone better than Rome in Limo. They just seem to do it right. Good luck with your decision, it really is a matter of personal preferrence.

  7. We had 3 tours with them with 4 people and had a sedan all three tours last Oct. When I booked the website did say sedan for 4 people or less. I was concerned it would not be comfortable but it was. I sat in the back in the middle and was very comfortable and could see everything. The mercedes sedans are very comfy if that is what you are concerned about.

  8. I guess it depends on how big the people are. It's a regular car. If the 3 in the back seat are, shall we say wider, then it's going to be a tight fit. Look at the back seat of any car and think whether you would fit. Good leg room though.

Thank you....sounds like we will fit fine. Is it a Mercedes sedan, I assume a full size car.

  9. Jolric,

We were in Civitavecchia/Rome on 7/20 while cruising on the Royal Princess. We used RIL and took the Rome Highlights tour. Our group of 4 included me, my wife, and 2 friends.

You may know this already; Civitavecchia is about an hour’s drive from Rome (at least that’s what I recall) and we had no traffic problems the day of our tour. So out of the total tour time, 2 hours were travelling to and from Rome.

Using a Vatican guide provided by RIL, we saw parts of the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica in about 2 - 2.5 hours after lunch on our RIL tour. I don’t know that we felt rushed, overwhelmed might be more accurate; there was so much to see. The guide really helped us use our time well. You can see the above areas in the allotted time though you will not be able to linger at any area much.

Regarding the Vatican tickets, the tickets RIL suggest you buy ahead of time are individual admission tickets to the Vatican Museum, which includes the Sistine Chapel. This saves you time waiting in line to buy tickets in person if you want to see the museum and Chapel. If you don’t want to see the museum or the Chapel then I’m not sure you need to buy the tickets. I don’t think you need them to get into St. Peter’s but I could be wrong; if you email RIL they should know. We emailed RIL with questions and Jany usually responded within 24 hours.

We booked 3 tours with RIL for our upcoming cruise in Oct. We also have 4 people and was told we will have a sedan. Did you find there was enough room with 4 prople and the driver?

  10. We did a private tour for 4 hours and it cost 400 euro. We went to the Etruscan Lands, Ceri Castle and lunch. We were picked up and dropped off at the port in Civitavecchia right at the ship. When I was looking the prices seemed to be for the tour not per person.

It was only my husband and I, but the van could have held more 2-3 more. When we go on tours my husband usually give 10 euro to the guide. I'm not sure what he gave Fabrizio when he took us. His van was air conditioned, he was very knowledgeable about the area. We paid to get in the museum but he bought us coffee and a snack. The restaurant we want to for lunch was excellent with a fabulous view!

They are very good about getting back to you promptly, just remember the time difference when you email them. :)

    Thank you for the info!
