  1. We're sailing in a suite and looking for ways to make the most of it :D

We'll have our 20, 16 & 14 year old kids and I'm sure they will think it's a blast having a butler! Hopefully they don't expect the same service when we get home.

We're in a 2 bedroom family suite and have already thought about having breakfast delivered a few mornings.

20 year old son was hoping there's a fancier coffee machine in the room so he can make himself an espresso, is that an option? I'm an Earl Grey tea drinker so hope they have that.

Any other snacks or items we should ask for? Any other recommendations appreciated.

  2. Thanks for the responses. We had already ruled out Disney or Universal - unless you can be there for the full day it's not worth the price.

Like the idea of wandering around the Santa Monica area. No reasonable priced hotels in Santa Monica area but will look at AirBnB options. Family of five means two rooms - which will cost more for one night than the week cruise for a couple of us!!

  3. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I didn't find anything when I searched.

We are travelling as a family of 5. We selected UBP for hubby and myself as one of our freebies. I noticed if you purchase a drink package everyone in the same party must have one. Does this mean we will have to purchase our kids the packages because we chose this as a freebie? We don't drink pop so it would be a complete waste.

Also, any ideas what 'fancy' non-alcholic drinks cost on board? i.e. virgin frozen drinks, etc.

  4. We will be in Jamaica for the first time with the kids in a couple of weeks and plan on going to BH. DH and I did the DRF 15 yrs ago and enjoyed it but hear it has become very busy.

We have been to Grand Cayman twice already and will be going again soon. Prior to kids we swam with the Stingrays and LOVED it but our kids weren't interested. When they were with us last time (4yrs ago) we went to the turtle farm, but likely your teenagers won't want to do that, and seven mile beach. This time all they want to do is hang out on the beach. It's beautiful and so easy to get to on the city 'bus' which is more or less a van. The island is a very expensive place to live, so you will not find much for riff-raff there. Of all of the places we've been in the Caribbean it's where we felt the most comfortable.

Cozumel we've been to 3 times and will be there again too. Last time we swam with the dolphins and I would highly recommend that if you haven't done it before. We booked outside of the cruise ship and there are lots of options for that in Cozumel. This time the kids want to stay on the ship for part of the day and then just do a little browsing in the shops. We've never stayed on board while at port so interested in seeing how that is for a bit.

With a family of 5, we've stayed away from the cruise line excursions, initially due to costs. We have had NO problems with any we booked ourselves but we've always done research here first to find reputable companies.

    Have FUN!!

  5. Looking for some advice from the more experienced travelers.

We have cruised 4 times - twice before kids, twice with kids. The last two times we had family rooms that fit all 5, but as the kids are growing up we feel we need to get two rooms. One bathroom with 3 teens isn't going to cut it!!

We have two options 1) get connecting balcony rooms or 2) for about $500 more, get a junior suite and an interior room but the closest we can get is about 6 rooms down the hall.

There are benefits of each scenario but we're not sure which way to go. DD doesn't especially want to bunk in with her older brothers but the suite doesn't have a pull out couch (those that do are all booked). We think the benefit of the extra space will be nice when we all want to get together pre-dinner, etc.

Is the balcony in a suite big enough for 5 to sit on comfortably?? (3 adult sized and two smaller teens)

Can the 'wall' between two connecting balconies be opened to make one large balcony??

Are the bathrooms or closets in the suites any larger?

    thanks for any advice/insight!
