  1. We brought our gluten intolerant 3 year old on Vista in January. You will need to find the maitre D when you board to order dinner for the first night, and order breakfast and dinner for the next day at dinner every night. There wasn’t a specific menu but they could modify almost anything on the nightly menu. Plenty of options.

We avoided the buffet except for fresh fruit, too risky. Deli had GF bread that was good. Pizza place made GF dough upon request. Guys burgers had GF buns and the fries are safe.

  2. Wow thank you so much for that wonderful compliment!! I hope you have an awesome cruise! So begins the addiction

I should have clarified, the addiction started 8 years and 4 cruises ago, but after getting pregnant on our last cruise 4 years ago, we took a break and had a couple babies ❤️ this will be our 5th, but first with my kiddos.

  3. There is a small shade canopy on the boat. Our kids were 4 and 6 and did not enjoy snorkeling yet but they still had fun. There were lots of stops including an island where they swam and played on the beach and saw iguanas. Then a beach on the French side for lunch. And more. We ended at Maho to watch a 747 land at the airport. Email Sam and tell him what you want to do and ask if a private charter is available. Otherwise we were 6 and there were 4 others with us I think.

  4. We did an excursion with Captain Sam. You can walk to his pier from the cruiseships. They do private charters as well. Awesome boat and great crew. We loved it. http://www.sxmboatcharter.com/

Thanks, I'll look into this! Do you know if his boats offer shade or if they will work for a laid back ride with young children?

  5. Group of 8 of us are considering chartering a private boat for a half day snorkel/beach trip. Considering CaptainJo Boat Charter. The reviews are great and the price seems fair. My concern is the cab fare he offered to get to Anse Marcel seems high at $25 round trip/person. So $200 total for the private taxi both ways. Is this fair? Would we be better off to grab a cab when we get there versus booking ahead? Is there a better option? Lastly, does anyone have experience with any private boat charters, including CaptainJo? We are looking for a laid back, non-party atmosphere to snorkel and swim in non-crowded areas.

  6. When you give the hostess your folio/cabin number the order slip is printed out. The hostess gives this to your waiter, who then confirms your order. Our only issue has been, at times the special order arrives before the other orders.

Thank you! Don't see the order coming early as being a problem for us, since it's for our toddler anyway :)

  7. We leave next Friday on the Vista (Jan 28) and Shelby is excited for her third cruise. ...I'll be sure to post about the Vista's GF experience!

    !

How did it go??? We are on the vista next January for the first time with kids and our daughter (will be 3) has a gluten sensitivity we need to accommodate. Can she eat the french fries from Guys? I'm hoping she'll be old enough to understand that we have to decide what to eat the day before... it's always challenging when they don't understand why they can't eat what everyone else is.

  8. The only discount thru' a TA would be a group rate, but you can be added to any group without actually knowing anyone and get the rate. This is only if the selected TA has any group for your selected date. No early saver, but you should be choosing a date and ship now. Rates will likely only go up in the future. If you see a lower rate, call and it will be applied. You will not be cancelling your booking by doing this. You will keep your booking number and simply get the new rate. TA's can offer on board credit, paid gratuities, wine, specialty dinners, etc. and may or may not charge fees for any changes to your reservation. If you ask questions of several different TA's, you should be able to find one who charges no fees, is available via e-mail or cell phone 24/7 and will give you some sort of goodies such as those mentioned above. Seriously, if a rate looks OK with you now, do NOT wait to see if the rate will be lower. Even when RCI has "sales", they tend to raise the base rate to "make up" for any perceived savings.

Thank you! This is really helpful! Are TA recommendations allowed to be shared on CC?

  9. Royal Caribbean newbie here after 4 previous Carnival cruises (2010-2014). We've decided on a January 2018 itinerary on either the Oasis or the Allure.

On Carnival, I always book their early saver rate and took advantage of any price drops and sales. Does Royal have a similar rate that guarantees the lowest rate? Are there upcoming sales I should wait to book for? I need insider tips! ;)

I also read that booking through a travel agent may offer additional discounts and offers. Are there any downsides to using an agent?

Please educate this newbie! Share any tips you wish you would have known for your first Royal cruise. I'm curious about how it will differ from my previous Carnival experiences.

  10. Thanks, this helps. Was not aware of the new carry-on drink policy or the increased gratuities.

We have cruised since the 2.0 upgrades. We're actually cruising on the Sunshine again for the second time in a row (just with a 3 year gap).

We have used FTTF and will again if possible.

I had heard rumors about the new American Table dining. I'm curious as to how that will change our dining experience.

I'm not sure how to feel about the new App concept.. It sounds useful.. but I've always enjoyed the device-free aspect of cruising that we have always enjoyed.

  11. After 4 Carnival cruises between 2010 and Jan 2014, we have taken a little break, but now that our souvenir from our last cruise is over a year old, we are prepared to book cruise #5 for Jan 2017.

I haven't been on these boards for the last two years, and have no idea what changes Carnival has made since our last cruise, so catch me up! Dining, entertainment, boarding processes, internet packages, etc. I've spent the last few hours reading the most recent threads but I feel a little lost.

If it makes any difference, we are planning to book the Sunshine out of Orlando for an 8-day Eastern route.

I admit, I did seriously consider booking a different line this time around, mainly because the entertainment on out Jan14 cruise was so disappointing, but I couldn't justify spending almost $1k more for essentially the same itinerary. Please tell me I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Also, this will be our first trip with a child. She'll be just over 2 at the time of cruising.

  12. Use the fare viewer to look up your cruise: http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/FareViewer/

Certain sailings are offering a "past guest plus bar credit" rate. If your sailing qualifies, it should show on the fare viewer. If there are still rooms available in your category, and you are booked early saver, then you *should* be able to get the credit.

Just call them up or fill out the early saver form: http://www.carnival.com/request-forms/early-saver-claim.aspx

    Hope that helps :)
