Time for my next question.   My wife and I use the stairs a lot on cruises to keep our weight under control and we have always enjoyed the art in the stairwells, especially on the Oasis class.  I bet I can find a dozen or so photos of Oasis class Stairwell Art.  Anyone have any pictures from Wonder?

Below is from Symphony (I think they want you to touch the art here)

    Try this article: https://www.blueplanetjourney.com/2022/11/cruise-ship-art-observations-from.html?m=1

We’ll be in Wonder in two weeks. So I used that for a scavenger hunt for my boys -Seth

  2. I was on Allure when she was new and it was may favorite ship. Recent reviews noted she is showing her age as she missed her dry dock scheduled during COVID. I believe she is getting the amplification done in January (might be wrong on that). So if sailing after her Amplification I would pick Allure.

However... I've been on Mariner twice and had a blast each time. Once before kids and last year with kids. Mariner is a great ship.

Pick the the price and sail date that works best for you and you can't go wrong with either ship.

That's if they buy a 2 layer gaiter. I haven't seen them and the ones we sell are the regular gaiter. Maybe amazon has them. I guess bandannas are ruled out altogether.

Most gaiters are long so they are easy to fold in to give you 2 layers if they aren't already.

I noticed one of the masks on the Esty page looks like underwear..lol (nice btw). Which leads to my next question (rhetorical). When does a mask become indecent? Can I wear a jean mask to the MDR?

I have seen places here that have banned neck gaiters and bandanas. They don't offer the same protection from the person who is wearing it because they are thin and because of design. With that said I would rather see someone wearing a gaiter or bandana than nothing at all or wearing a correct mask and not covering their nose.

  5. -------

We were the week before you :)

I agree. VERY CLEAN bathrooms. Scary for me though, single Mom with a son, no urinals in ladies room :(

Ahh I understand. Yeah I swear if my son had to use the potty and she didn't want to take him she would say to our son would you like to use the urinal, and he wanting to be a big boy of course said yes. So I had to take him often...lol

  6. Which August cruise on Oasis were you on? We were on the Aug 16 - 23rd Western. I thought the public bathrooms on Oasis were good. My son liked using the urinals in them (almost all had a lowered one for kids). Only a few occasions was it messy in the public bathrooms. My son had to get real close to the urinal so I would take a paper towel wet it and put some of the soap on it and wipe the urinal area before he used it. It seemed to work and I never had to touch it.

At least half the time we used a public bathroom on Oasis we saw someone in the process of cleaning it. Yes a few times we got in there and it was a little dirty but you do the paper towel soap wipe and it worked for us (Yes, I agree doing that is gross but if you have a young child you've seen worse).

  7. Early on in the potty training my DS was doing 1 fine but 2 he had issues with. Got it all worked out before the cruise. So don't worry he'll get it.

Our cruise was 8 days after my son turned 3. I was nervous leaving him in the adventure ocean program even with his potty training it was still fresh. Well, he did very well. He had one accident on the ship and a semi accident at the kids program. He pee'd on his shorts a little as his aim was off. Heck grown ups have that problem sometimes.

My DS was the smallest and youngest in the Aquanauts program (on Oasis) and he did very well.

The staff was great. When he had his semi accident the staff threw some shorts on him (Adventure Ocean shorts) and said we could keep them. I gotta say the staff on Oasis was amazing with my 3 year old DS. Even when he wasn't in the best of moods.

I wish there were a few more public bathrooms around the ship, but pretty much there was one nearby most places. Just make sure you know where they are ahead of time. Use the deck plans to find them.

Any questions on my experience on Oasis recently let me know.

  8. That sucks.

Maybe I didn't notice this before but last week on Oasis I saw plenty of security all over the ship. Last week my wife left her sea pass card in a slot machine and didn't realize it until we left and got back to our room. She went back down and someone returned it to the cashier in the casino. It was left there maybe 15 - 20 mins.

It's not the same thing but at least it was returned.

  9. My Mother in-law is a photo hound. So when I proposed to my wife on Mariner I made sure to hire a ships photographer to capture the moment and get some pictures after. It was surprise and I actually had to have a family member that was on the cruise with us set it up with the photographer. I pretty much told them what, when and where I wanted them to do.

The plan was my GF and I walk by a selected spot at a set time after our formal dinner on Day 2 of the cruise. The photographer was exactly where he was asked to be. I told my GF hey we're dressed up lets get a nice picture just the two of us. When the photographer went to set up the shot I bent down to get the ring box out of my sock (only place I could hide it with out her seeing it).

My GF gets impatient with me and just wants to take the picture and I look up to her with a ring and a question. The ships photographer got it all and I could not have been more pleased with the results (Oh she said yes).

Yes I had a plan and it worked perfectly. I did however have a family member off in the distance where my wife or the ships photographer would not notice them to take back up pictures just in case something didn't go right.

Now we're heading out on our first cruise with our son. So I'm very thankful to photography staff at RCI. Yes, it wasn't cheap but it was well worth it.

Just my 2 cents before everyone jumps to bash the RCI staff photographers.

  10. (My opinion may not be shared by others)

Allure may not be for everyone, but RCI sure did a very good job at designing a ship that would work for a majority of people.

Maybe a few people said this above or something to the effect, but it's not like a normal cruise ship at all. It is completely different.

I've said this a bunch of times it rained 6 of the 7 days on my Allure cruise and I still had an amazing cruise.

Don't bother with the windjammer. We walked through it once and I grabbed a cookie in passing. That was the extent to my windjammer use on that cruise.

The ship is the destination not the ports. The ports for the most part are just pit stops. There are other ships that visit nicer ports.

The Viking Crown lounge is amazing on this ship with great views. Never did I see it crowded. That is good for the people that actually go up there.

I went out of my way to walk through Central park whenever we could. Especially at night.

It actually has enough life boats... ;)

  11. For my upcoming cruise we needed a balcony with a pull out sofa bed. D1 - D4 cabins offer this as far as I can tell. I could not for the life of me locate a Balcony with a pull out sofa bed with the bed by the balcony. (Suites were out of our price range)

So unless I missed it I'm pretty sure all D1 - D4 cabins with the pull out sofa bed have the bed by the closet. (Not talking about pullman beds but the fold out sofa beds)

Please let me know if I'm wrong about that.

  12. I've seen some of the most beautiful Rainbows.

Binoculars are great to have especially up on the higher decks.

One night I watched some birds just flying along the side of the ship at night. Harder to spot but beautiful to just watch them glide along and dive for fish.

Runners are always entertaining, especially when the balconies are pretty full and they cheer on the runners.

  13. Slightly off / on topic but did not want to start another thread about it.

My DS turns 3 right before the cruise and we've been potty training and he's doing very well. I was nervous he wasn't going to catch on but he has the past few weeks and done very well (1 accident in the last few weeks).

I toured the kids club on Allure but I did not check out the bathrooms. My DS can handle everything himself if the bathroom has kid sized toilet/urinal/sink. Does anyone know if the bathrooms (On Oasis) in or near the kids club area has kid sized toilet/urinal/sink?

    Thanks!

  14. On my Allure cruise we had a table for 10. It was right by the window. We had the late seating and we alternated seats each night. The only issue we had was with some slow service a couple of the nights. The staff in our section was shorthanded. The head waiter handled it very well.

Our table was long not the round one. It was located in the back port side of the dining room. A couple of the night we could see the sun go down while we had dinner. It was very nice.

  15. I agree with what Lou said. great writing so far. Not a wall of words. Thank you.

Looking forward to reading more. Will be on Oasis with my 3 year old in August along with another couple and their 3 year old.

I really like the idea about heading up to the pool first. I've been considering doing that and I think this convinced me.

Can't wait to read more. Thank you.

  16. There aren't any life boats below that cabin from what I can see. Even if there were it would only block your view directly down not out over the balcony.

Take a look at any picture of the portside of Oasis. You're on the first 'hump' from the aft. doesn't look like any life boats below those balconies.

You may have some noise from the schooner bar which looks like its near by.

  17. I don't recall what the policy is on this but I'd like to see them reuse a name of a retired ship. Nostalgia of the Seas.... Oh wait it would have to be half the size.

I loved my Allure cruise and am looking forward to Oasis soon. Great ships regardless of what some people say.
