We stayed at the Scandic Front Hotel it has breakfast included and helpful staff.
Its 2 minutes walk from Nyhavn, all the street works and constuction at the hotel is finished now and we found it a great location.
The local bus pulls up out front and taxis are always around. The HoHo bus stops 100m up the road outside the Admiral hotel.

We just had 3 weeks in Spain and I couldn't go past the Rioja.

Because I had a knee injury and I was finding it hard to get arround we took a taxi from the airport to the Nyhaven area it cost DKK300.
I put a lot of time into massaging my bad knee after that lol.:(

We are just back from our stay at the Scandic Front Hotel, the aircon worked very well as well as the option to open the window if you want fresh air.
Now that the street works outside are finished the location in great its just 3 minutes walk from Nyhaven.:)

I'm an NCL fan with the crew of the NCL Jade making it my favorite, we've been to the Baltics then a cruise to Iceland and the UK , a BTB out of Venice that took just over 3 weeks doing the greek Islands, Turkey and Croatia and a BTB out of Rome doing Sicily, France and Spanish ports.
We can't wait for our cruise next month out of Copenhagen to Barcelona via Portugal on the NCL Star.:)

We seem to be on the same wavelength on hotels Yamanid. We booked Novotel in Hong Kong for a stay post cruise next April!
Walk down to Lau Pa Sat in Boon Tat St for the best Satay in Singapore...it could be in the Scottish blood we stayed in the Novotel on Nathan Rd Hong Kong its in a good location for the night markets.

I am not a big fan of chilli crab to start with, so I don't have a favourite.
However, there are several more well known local restaurants that serve decent chilli crab. One example is Jumbo Seafood - http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg/en/
Thanks for this info I'll try it out.

In the area that MADflyer mentions above I've stayed in several hotels. Of those the two I prefer are Westin Palace ( if you have Starwood points you can usually get rooms there with points) and the Catalonia Las Cortes. Enjoy, Madrid is a great city!
Just booked the Catalonia Las Cortes hotel, we can't wait thanks everyone for your help.

I think there is a stall (or two) selling chilli crab at Lau Pa Sat, but I heard they are only average. So probably not the best place to get chilli crab. The rest of the stuff is fine.
Thanks for that, so do you recommend a specialty restaurant rather than food halls.
You don't have to name your favourite here if you want to keep it a secret lol.:)

Compilation video of some food that I've been having recently. Decided to put this together for the fun of it. Thank God for Singapore food!

We just booked the Eaton Family room for the 5 of us for 4 nights pre cruise next December, great price and love the location. Now we just have to wait a year
Also booked the Hilton Opera house in Hanoi.
Now we only have to book our Hotel in Bangkok and Singapore when reservation open up for our date in a few days.
The Eaton hotel is a good joice, just a few minutes walk to the Temple street markets.
Have fun

Another Madrid travel tip that is not hotel related....check to see if there are unusual closings for the Palace while you are there. We had left our planned Palace trip for the end of our stay and it was closed for special events for two days. So we only saw it from the outside.
Although that did allow more time for us in the Reina Sofia then we originally planned and we loved that museum.:)
The more info the better thank, we will go to both of these places
-
For Madrid, I would look in the central areas from the 'Art Triangle' between the Reina Sofia Museum and the Prada Museum, up to the Plaza Santa Ana in the Cortes district and then over to the base of the Gran Via.
Staying right at Sol or right at Plaza Mayor are not actually the best options and then there are also many good hotels just off the gran via and into the Opera district. There are literally 100s of very good options now in Madrid.
Just to get an idea of the area, The ME Reina Victoria is a great location and then moving over to the new chain from Melia called INNSIDE, with their Innside Hotel Suecia. If you look at a site like Kayak you will get an idea of the large number of quality hotels in this zone. Rooms can be very small, but usually modern and very functional.

Thankyou for this information you've given me alot of homework to get through. I'm getting excited about Spain.:)

Our cruise ends in Barcelona next October and we are having 4 days there before we go to Madrid for 4 nights. Could you recommend a good hotel in a good location in Madrid.
Thank in advance.:)

I have been reading the reviews of the Jade in the Western Caribbean out of Houston because we will be on her in January. Most of them are pretty negative.
They are all from November, when the Jade returned from Europe, and I understand the first cruise after the TA was pretty rocky -- lots of crew, service, bar, tendering, embarkation, disembarkation, etc. issues. It's hard to tell exact dates, but it looks like several are from this initial cruise.
I am hoping that they get lots of these things ironed out between now and January.
Its bit sad if the Jade is getting bad reviews now we were on her last year and had the best time, every crew member went out of there way to help us.

Danish Viking, we are going to take a trip over to Malmo for a few hours while we are in Copenhagen.
I've heard that they accept Danish Krone, do you know if that is right and do you think we would need to take our Australian passports with us.
Thanks.

We had friends who stayed for 2 nights at the Hotel Villa Rosa and thought it was very good for the price they paid.
Its not far from the train station and I know there are good shops and restaurants around there.

maple leaves - thanks for your help. I have looked at Hotel Papadopoli and was going to show DH when he got home - the price is better but 2 blks and a bridge is not doable with our luggage - doable for sightseeing luggage-free though. If a private water taxi can get to that hotel or it somehow has a land entrance, which I haven't figured out yet, then it is doable.
It seems Hotel Becher doesn't have a/c or at least people are complaining it doesn't, which is a dealbreaker for us.
Has anyone stayed at Al Ponte Antico near the Rialto Bridge? Apparently it has a private dock and also a back land entrance where an actual car taxi can drop you off, so might be a contender.
Londra Palace is good but on the high side. Metropole is a bit cheaper but still, oh so expensive!
Have priced the top hotels again, looking for specials etc. and it is mind boggling how much they charge! Then, I find one that looks good, has a view and then has no elevator - which of course is needed for the luggage, so back to the drawing boards....
Thanks again,
Canuck
We stayed at the Popadopoli, its a very good hotel. The water taxi can stop right outside the door and they have a very helpful doorman.
Water taxis aren't cheap though.

We stayed at Hotel Espana two years ago and had no complaints. Nice, clean, quiet with a very helpful staff. It is located on a side street that doesn't allow vehicles so you will have a two minute walk with your luggage. On our embarkation day we actually walked to the port, took 10 minutes.
We are cruising out of Barcelona on Dec 9th this year and have Arc La Rambla booked. This hotel actually looked comparable, good reviews and would cut the walk to port down by 5 minutes!
Looks good could you let us know what its like when you get back. We aren't on our cruise until September. So I'm in no hurry to book.

I got my pocket picked waiting to get on the HOHO at the port... wasted the whole day getting back onto the ship....it was the port I was looking forward to the most too.
Just be careful and have fun.
